- The late Ricky Lawson was a professional drummer from Detroit, Michigan. He performed with numerous award winning acts including: Michael Jackson, The Brothers Johnson, Passage, Toto, Earth Wind & Fire, Lionel Richie and George Duke, to name a few. In 1986, Ricky performed with the Yellowjackets (which whom he was a founding member) in his hometown and his cousin and my company were blessed to film them. The times I met him Ricky, he was very cool and down to earth.
I've seen a lot of great drummers over the years: Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Gerry Brown and many more, but this was one of the best solo performances I had ever witnessed.
Ricky was always pulling creativeness out of the blue Wish the audio was better .
RIP Ricky..you are missed.
