I took a different approach than adding a wire direct from alternator to battery, and I'm hoping it's correct. Attached multi meter to - terminal on battery and touched the + on back of alternator, since I got a voltage reading of 12v I'm assuming the current attached cable is fine.

12v with engine off. 14-14.8 while running
Do you think it's possible to do this job without removing the fuel filter and taking the alternator out the bottom (astra)
what one did u contact the Wire to was it b1+ or b2 +

No. This is only the low pressure fuel line.
