FAQ (will add to as good questions in the comments come up!) 1. Why not use hydraulic rotators for the joints? We looked into it. They're A) stupid expensive - $10,000+ each easily and B) massive. Most are designed for real construction equipment, like excavators -- which are huge. 2. Why only one video a month? To maintain one video a month so no one complains, we need to be able to keep up with the engineering time required to build such a massive project. We will get ahead at first, which is why the 2nd video is ready to be watched for members only -- but we need to keep a buffer so we can keep the series on the regular =) 3. Are you going to be using any electric motors? It will all be hydraulic. End plan is a gasoline engine to power the hydraulic pump. For actual joints, electric motors can't even compare to hydraulics for power and torque. No electric motors are strong enough for the torque we need on the end effectors -- hydraulic motors are the only thing that will work -- and even then they have to be geared down. 4. What's the spinny thing on the couch? It's the kinetic art sculpture from Iron Man 2. Perpetual motion ;-) 5. Why this and not Flying like Iron Man? Believe it or not, this project is still way cheaper than Flying like Iron Man ever could have been. We're able to do the power loader because we can do multiple videos on the series as we make money from the videos. Flying like Iron Man on the other-hand, required an upfront investment of over $100,000 -- JUST to start the project. Likely hood of breaking something means that cost could double or triple super fast. If you want to see someone fly like Iron Man, check out Gravity Industries and Richard Browning -- they've invested over a million dollars into their system. We are no longer pursuing that project.

Why dont you guys brake down a 3d model of a trackhoe you can use it to reference your spinning parts and most of your arm movements. You could probably build and entire power loader out of a couple of trackhoe's
"Why not just use a forklift?"...Well, I'll tell you. It's practical because they are on an interstellar spacecraft. Used for loading Aircraft weapons on pretty much every USAF Aircraft, at least on all Aircraft I worked on. Lift capacities 3k lbs and 7k lbs respectively. There are several adapters that can be attached to the "table" at the end of the lift arm for various weapons that need specialized loading. Like sliding onto a launch rail, like the AGM-65 Maverick, onto a LAU-88 three rail launcher. Talk about your loaders nightmare! I once loaded 6 missiles, single, which means sliding them onto empty rails hanging on the aircraft. You can find plenty of images and specs (can even buy one, I did see a MJ-4 for sale once for $7500. If I had a spare $7500 I would have jumped on it!)

just got engineering sciences for my highschool agenda and now I'm going back through these vids just to hype myself up for em, to say I'm excited is the understatement of the year
If your goal to make the Power Loader over the years has finally become attainable, then maybe, just maybe, my life project “Raiden” can be achieved if I work hard enough.
One of my dream creations, is the Batman suit itself. Where the user is intimidating, but has the practical functions just like in the comics. Understanding the science behind the materials, the forces it can withstand, etc. A challenging but exciting project. Bringing raiden to life will be so awesome to. Very complex when you see how he moves and to build a bionic body to allow that movement will be tough. Of course that is just one of many variables that must be considered.
I'm still waiting for the day that he grows out a much more voluminous beard and starts smashing what he builds with a wrench for the sake of making upgrades.
it won't work the same reason the Rocketeer jet pack doesn't work. Do I have to explain jet motor plus backpack equals man's ass on fire spinning like a pinwheel through the sky. There was a fellow about 10 years ago who was a former American fighter pilot who watched too many episodes of G.I. Joe as a kid and he may be only working jet pack that I know of and it was merely a mirror replica of the G.I. Joe jet pack Bobo Fett jet pack will not work! Nor will commando Cody or the Rocketeer. What you need is something similar to a miniature remote-controlled jet plane in design that you then strapped to your back. And if you position the jet slow enough that your posterior region doesn't burst into flames, then it will work landing however, is going to be interesting taking off, not so much. But landing is going to be a problem. There's plenty of videos on UA-cam of that aircraft pilot, throwing his ass out of a perfectly good airplane and G.I. Joe Flying around with the jet pack. If I are member correctly he had to shut it off and land using a parachute.
This project is going to be great. The comment bellow is not to criticizer the finished project you are going to end up with, it you power loader and its going to be a lot of fun regardless. Just in your commentary on the other guys hydraulics, the hose links he has would work. The wrists he has represent a hydraulic motor used in tilt buckets. They have two hoses enter on the pivot and allow about 90' of rotation. The arm joint is a rotary coupler and is used in forestry and industry rotating heads like a harvesting head on an excavator, They are a compact version of a slew interface coupler but with less pass through functions. Hydraulic hoses can easily bend as indicated in the picture when using a high flex steel braided hose. the important thing is that the hoses fittings are crimped when the hose is in its fitted shape, This lets the steel cores hold form once crimped, you can also get 90' high flow fittings that have a nice radius on them. Now after saying all that, the other guys hoses are incorrect to the movie, in the movie the hoses are alot more messy. In fact alot of what is in the other guys model is more tidy and boxy then in the alien movie. Best of luck with the project and we all look forward to the results

just got engineering sciences for my highschool agenda and now I'm going back through these vids just to hype myself up for em, to say I'm excited is the understatement of the year
Trust me I took a year course of cad that is 100% how cad works
Honestly your videos have inspired me to pursue a life of engineering. Thanks!

“almost like, put it together like a normal puzzle”
If only everything was that easy
Wow finaly i've been so exited since i first saw this in instagram!!!
Of course that is just one of many variables that must be considered.
awesome project of our future 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Time to build a Hacksmith mech and enter the MegaBots competition. Kuratas doesn't stand a chance knowing all of the cool weapons you can come up with
too small haha
I'm still waiting for the day that he grows out a much more voluminous beard and starts smashing what he builds with a wrench for the sake of making upgrades.
Is that a tf2 reference?
@@mantas9259 Unfortunately I think it's an Overwatch reference.
Eight minutes. That's how much of your content it took for me to wanna subscribe. I'm gonna be trawling through your back catalogue for daaays!
You mean weeks.
You guys do great work it’s part of the reason I decided I should go to school to be an engineer
Same!
I’m becoming a channel member now so I can watch part 2 now
I LOVE THE HACKSMITH
Boys have crushes
Men have girlfriends
LEGENDS. OPERATE. FORKLIFTS.
Yo, how do you get that pin next to your username?
Bananas and the hardships they endure he pays monthly for it. its the join button next to the subscribe button
@@_robin_5858 ok, thanks!
Forklifts are pathetic, excavators are where it’s at
Ha
Who is more interested in the thing in the background instead of his face?
Its a double pendulum and its very cool
Are you talking about the doohickey or the picture behind his head?
Where did he get the prints of Musk, Tesla, Einstein etc behind you?
Me
me for sure dude
Imagine being the guy that made that render on solid works and knowing that this whole thing was made from your design
4:48 where i can get those pictures behind you
I would also appreciate an answer to this :)
JuusTonTon google images

Anyone know where to buy those spinners???
This one is a really brave project! I hope you can do it! Good luck on your road to success!
Hello "The Hacksmith", love the videos. You should try making a transformer item
This project finally brought me to support you on Patreon :) I've always loved your work, keep it up :D
Geared wrist sounds amazing, the versatility of being able to infinitely spin the wrist is brilliant!
I can see the greatest scientists of the history at his back. my favorite in that list is TONY STARK😎.
my favorite in that list is whilley coyote.
whats "the history"?
Please Try Boba Fett's jetpack
Nils dany yes, please do Bobba Fett’s jetpack, make sure the missile works like a firework or something
That would be sick
Boba fett jetpack? It's future
it won't work the same reason the Rocketeer jet pack doesn't work.
@@peterparker6584 I see what you trying to say. Thanks for the answer.
I’m an aspiring Computer Engineer (heading to college ima couple months) and I have to thank you as you have really inspired me to stay in this path! I do have a question for you, have you heard of the “FIRST Robotics Competition” it’s an amazing high school robotics competition I am apart of (team 4068 BearBotics). We have 6 weeks to build a robot that accomplished multiple tasks and competes with/against other teams. The game field for this year was one of the files in the from page when you showed GrabCAD. Keep it up and I can’t wait to se the final project!
tfw come home from a 5 hour solid works class to watch a video on more solid works.
That Unreal Tournament 3 soundtrack brings back a lot of memories

What this this is INSANE, AWESOME I couldn't believe it when I read the title wow good job guys keep doing awesome things and one day you will surely reach the stars!!!!!!!
its such an ambitious build I can't wait to see it done!
Something from one of my most favorite movies gets build and a video about it gets uploaded on my last year's birthday... UA-cam, why am i stumbling upon this now and not back then? Where's this cursed algorithm when it's actually needed?
Whatever, thanks for the good laugh, Hacksmith! Cheers from germany
Hold the phone, am I first to like and comment?!? Mind. blown.
Pays to be a UA-cam member! There's only a hundred of you at the moment :)
Thanks! Love your work! Usually, to be honest, I only see your videos hours later! Super excited!
I thought I was the first "sigh"
