The reason they can't let anyone know about their brand is because even though fisher tiger helped them all to escape technically they're still "property" of the celestials. The brands and collars that explode are to make sure they can never just run away. If its found out they would be forced back to mary joise or die in the struggle, and that would endanger the entire island. They used Boa's beauty as a weapon against her, and now she uses her beauty as weapon against everyone else. Her and her sisters backstory is pretty horrific, so much so that even oda didnt want to go into to much detail and most of it is implied, it makes sense why she acts the way she does.
Yeah I think during Dressrosa Oda answers a question in the SBS related to a similar topic and said that he can't show "Grown-up stories" in One Piece but that the Grown Up readers can use their imagination to fill in the blanks.
I actually like that Boa isn't shown to be completely good or something. She's and her sisters were severely damaged and have had skewed views on the world. Every man they knew, was either a Hideous Monster or didn't particularly like humans (FisherTiger). Etc. So the whole situation with Luffy makes sense. The situation of her putting on airs to protect her secret makes sense too. She needed to act powerful, aloof etc to remain detached and keep their secret. The more we learn about the World Government and the Celestial Dragons the more it makes sense. The Kuja would NOT be safe if it got out even through one person and back the World Government that they were escaped slaves. They would be attacked and potentially Buster Called. Crazy... Boa isn't a saint and certainly she can be a bit better like doesn't really need to kick kittens or smash the girl's statue in the village. But in her own way her act of pompousness is an act of love for her sisters and people to keep the Government at bay.
And even the one who didn't like humans - in spite of not liking humans he still saved her and other humans as well as so many fishmen. He wasn't a monster - and he wasn't a human man. The one fairly decent man she'd met was a fishman, instead of a human, and he's dead. I suppose she also thought that the one great man or one even decent man out there was gone and that no one else would have the nerve to do what he did.
Boa Hancock still sees it as her fault I think - that she and her sisters were kidnapped. She's the oldest, she's supposed to take care of them. She'd said she was a warrior and she was on observation duty. She feels like because she was distracted and wasn't keeping her eye on her surroundings, it was what lead to their being snatched off the ship, she couldn't stop them or call out for help. She was 12, it was not her fault, but she may still be blaming herself for it. That's why she doesn't want to appear vulnerable. She doesn't want to appear weak or like she's emotionally affected by just about anything because she's scared of being hurt again.
There's only so much detail an anime that is intended for a young audience can go into, but with Hancock's backstory, consider their age and the devil fruits they were forced to eat. Then maybe you can guess exactly what kind of things they were forced to do, and why they actually despise most men. The boys/men might not figure it out immediately but too many of the girls/women will.
Its just impossible to not love Luffy. I think we should all strive to be a bit more like him in our daily lives. This young man is literally a treasure
Ahhh the callback to Arlong. They honestly hit a good balance in the live action of hinting at this stuff and making sure he wasn't seen as redeemable. Can't wait for you guys to find out more about what's going on.

I feel the same as Heather, because we now understand why she cannot even show sympathy (a weakness) to even a little kitten in front of the Navy and her subordinates - because she's afraid of letting her guard down, of being taken advantage of again. So, I know it's bad and horrible - but if she really wanted to kick the kitten, it wouldn't have survived in the first place (knowing how strong she is). It's all a show.

So this is why Kuma sent Luffy to the kuja island. Because he just punched a celestial dragon and he will surely find a sympathetic ally in Snake Princess
There are certain outstanding characters..but then there are normal people..who are deceived, given a narrative, and they often follow stereotypes..here.. the warriors in Amazon Lily... That's how the world is..and we will see more of it in OnePiece.
