Good job!! What happened the sound?? When you hammered, it sounded like you were several houses away. I may be weird, but I like the sound of the hammer hitting the shoe. Hope it isn’t a permanent change.

When you hold the shoe on the hoof, while it's still warm, what are you doing? And when shaping the shoe, what are you looking for?

I think it’s to make sure that the shoe is snug against the hoof.
You wouldn’t want debris like dirt and rocks getting stuck between the hoof and the shoe because of a tiny gap. It could cause discomfort to the horse and may cause the shoe to come loose.
I’m sure it doesn’t hurt the horse as there’s no reaction and I’ve seen all other farriers do it.
