ABOUT
Howdy! My name is Scott. In 2017, I was unhappy with a traditional house (aka, storage unit) and a long Chicago commute. In 2018, I reinvented my life which included buying a Winnebago Travato GL Camper Van. Now in my 5th year of full-time travel in my Class B RV, I help others achieve their RV travel dreams more quickly and more fully. Thanks for watching and being part of the Go Small. Live Large! Love the marriage of iconic Airstream features with modern adventure van tech. I like the idea of no propane and Volta! Will have to see this one in person.
it is a fine rig
Thank you for taking the time to tour the Airstream. I love how open the layout is. The bed is almost exactly like my older Pleasure Ways van. I like the open shelves in the back. I love the 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 platform of my van though, so I think I will will just update it for my style of travel. I can do a alot of modifications for the price of buying a new adventure van. Thank you again for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it Anita. thx for watching :)
While I do like it, I'd prefer traditional overhead storage. I like the red accenting and the split kitchen.
Fair enough! thx for watching :)
They even lined the storage compartment for the bed bars. They didn't have to. ❤❤😂😂🎉🎉
But I’m very glad they did! I’ve had vehicles clanged and rattled their way along the road. Most of the time it’s no biggie, but every once in a blue moon it will bug the ever living 💩 tar outta me! 😂
LOL. thx for watching :)
Fantastic job Airstream. Finally, a real black tank! I was looking to get a revel, but this is far, far better!
Right on Rob
Very nice and great job Airstream!
Glad you enjoyed it. thx for watching :)
Thanks Scott. Some really interesting features. Particularly like the extra coating on the external plastic bits. My focus is still the Storyteller LT, but would definitely look at a Embassy van if they had a floorpan similar to the Travato GL based on a Ford Transit Trail (lifted AWD).
Glad it was helpful!
Yikes! That wet bath looks to be the same size as a basecamp. Used a friends and you can’t move around. It was a lesson in patience!
Edit: Airstream if you’re reading this, an extra 6” would help tremendously! A flip up sink would also add shower room.
Hi Erin
@@gosmall.livelarge - Howdy Pardner! 👋🏽🤠
The fit and finish of the Airstream pales to that of Story Teller Overland or Outside Van. Even though this Airstream costs more.
Thanks for Sharing
It's an excellent design for the bench and the kitchen galley. The battery power with the Volta system can live off the grid for a long time. This one has the best kitchen prep space for a 19-foot campervan.
Cool, thanks
Nice job Airstream! Online specs for the E1 show it’s a Timberline furnace and water heating solution, not Truma as the gentleman mentioned. I do love Truma products so was a bit disappointed. Timberline is a common hydronic system in the Revel as well and works very well.
Hi Scott. thx for watching :)
Wow! now that's an upgraded adventure van.
Ryan !!
Have you ocd 😂 love that lining for the bed bars 😊 great video thanks for sharing new here atb Mike 😊
Mike ! thx for watching :)
Good job Airstream! Lithium system, diesel heat, large enough bathroom, aggressive exterior, inside storage, interior design all well done. Would be nice to offer larger water/waste tanks esp on those vans upgraded with E1 package...should be more space for larger tanks on those models.
Thx for sharing
We own an Airstream 23 FB and it's phenomenal.
What year? I loved mine until my foot went through the floor, LOL! Not sure if it’s ‘20 or ‘21 models that began the composite floors that withstood water damage. If yours has a wood floor, and you use it in cold weather and see condensation in the windows, you will have floor issues. 😊 (That’s a $25k+ after warranty cost)
Thx for sharing
@@Erin-Thor we have a 2009
Have a 2023 Coachman Nova. Was loving this Air Stream Coach. Till we got to the kitchen. Can't believe you didn't ask this question. Where is the silverware drawer to use for all that countertop for food prep. Where do you store your pots pans, plates glasses and other kitchen essentials? Other than that seems like a great coach.
It is an adventure van. They often have repriotized storage, as you likely know Thx Civil
I like the red.
me too
Thank you for the video, it is a great RV for a small foot print, I just realized, it has no drawers in the kitchen, basically very little storage there, where do u put pots and pans and such?
You are right One would utilize the overhead storage area
Very nice rig - quick question: where do you store silverware and any cooking items such as pots and pans?
I’ve seen many adventure Van travelers put their pots and pans and dishes somewhere in collapsible backpack style arrange
$247k and no tv? Not much kitchen storage either. I’m still an LTV fan because they truly feel homey and have a dry bath. Will you ever have a tour of an LTV or have you already? Thanks for all you do!
LTV isn’t really a van at all. And this rig would never be crossed shopped as it’s designed for boon-docking and going off-road.
Hi Gramma. Most adventure vans do not have TVs…. thx for watching :)
The backseat and bench of Interstate 19X is a game changer. The OCCC is only 1236, and it's unsafe to operate once the freshwater is filled with two people and belongings. Can the Volta system charge the house batteries during the engine idle?
Volta and chassis electrical systems are complete separate, so no.
Looks fantastic. I wonder how much it can tow?
It was listed in the specs, 5000 lbs maybe?
I love b vans but these prices are getting a bit crazy. I guess if people will pay, then charge what you want.
Hi Tim
👍👍👍👍
howdy you 2
Make All Your Choices Wisely
well said
I think most people who haven’t owned a campervan don’t understand, unlike trailers, A’s, or C’s, is that vans tend to get used often. Having a cassette that can be dumped at home means it gets used more and you can also use the toilet in the winter even if the rest of the van is winterized. Chasing down a dump station after a day trip or weekend trip is a pain. Black tanks make sense, I guess, if they’re large and you’re full-timing with regular access to dump stations. My van spends more time at my local bike trailheads, lakes and city-parks parking lots than anywhere besides my driveway. Having a class b is a different experience. Drop the travel trailer and motorhome mindset. I’m in my van 3-4 times a week running around within 2 hours of my house. If I’m away from the house more than half a day, or the local restrooms seem gross or crowded, I’ll use the cassette since it’s so easy to dump and rinse at home.
And the reason “adventure” vans have a raised bed is to carry the adventure gear. I look at this and wonder where all my filthy outdoor gear will store. Not even to mention that most people with high end bicycles aren’t storing them on a rack outside the van, they’re under the bed.
Great comments
Scott, the Airstream bathroom looks ½ the usable size of yours and ½ the size of the Embassy
hi Sam. The bathroom are good size in that rig. But maybe not as large as mine
Did they re-design those bed bars? I've seen a few videos from owner's where their bed bars fall off and the bed collapses on itself.
Oh no
Interesting layout but I did not see a fridge or tv.
short fridge. no TV, but can be installed. Often adventure vans do not have TVs. thx for watching :)
In my view, a very poor floor plan. Set up the table, dismantle it, set up the bed but then you can't eat. Thank god for the mini refrigerator that sips little power from the 50000 $ Volta system and of course the one burner induction plate in the drawer.....Magnificent, if it costs 350000$ I'll order one right away..
LOL. thx for watching :)
I don’t get the allure of these jigsaw flat spaces trying to be beds. How do you put sheets on? All spaces between the foam cushions plus the seatbelts look very uncomfortable. Also, no headboard!
My guess is most would not put the bed actually together, but use the two twin style beds instead. My guess also is an adventure van owner wouldn’t bother with sheets, but would probably lose a lightweight sleeping bag.
@@gosmall.livelarge Yes, I would guess that as well, but still, I do not understand why anyone would spend so much money for an uncomfortable sleeping arrangement, especially for those who are planning to plan on fulltime or long journey vanning. This bed set-up really only works for weekenders or short trippers or rough livers. Just my opinion, obvs. Bet loads of folks are find with sleeping rough.
One day maybe someone will come out with a decent van for the middle class
Hi Wade. Do not be discourage by the very not-real MSRP. Many van for sale on RVtrader.com way under $80k
Not a fan of the chassis. Thanks, Scott, for the tour. 😊
Thanks for watching!
It would have been better if they took the traditional Airstream design and made an RV using the Mercedes Van chassis…
ok !
I wish they would also talk about quality, warranty and dealer response to problems. We heard so many horrible stories about downtime but this review completely ignores the reality of RV’s
Tom it was a floor plan tour Thx for your understanding
12100 watt hours. Wha...
Hi Larry
No tv?
Nope, can be added.
A tv in an “adventure” van?
It's pretty but I'm bummed about the standard microwave.
thx for watching :)
Bed bars have no support slats or board in between. Will ruin cushions over short period of time.
hmmm
The price for these B vans is outrageous given that you can buy a full size class A diesel pusher for the same price.............just saying...........
Roger - a Class A won't get you to where these are designed to go. If you are into mountain biking, hiking, surfing, skiing, fishing, hunting Bigfoot, kayaking...you wouldn't take a Class A down a forestry road or a wash in the desert.
Hi Roger. Very different types of RVs. thx for watching :)
For such a high tech vehicle, I am surprised the bathroom door is not sealed, and you must resort to a shower curtain! Such a low technology solution to what should be a modern vehicle. Maybe someone at airstream should take a walk over to the in tech camper LOL
thx for watching :)
$225,000. 😳
Hi Dave
Bed is to short. A queen bed is 60 by 80. So all us normal hieght people at six feet or better won't be comfortable
Got it. thx for watching :)
Airstream needs to get some permanent bed class b Floorplans with garage underneath. Who wants to make up a bed like that every night. Thumbs down.
thx for sharing
Ridiculous high MSRP. Keep your cash in the bank.
Live life
Heat does not work on the junk they sell
Insightful, assuming you are an owner. thx Jonhn
Who makes a bed without seams seams are so dreadful makes for an awful sleeping experience does anybody know a maker of vans that does not have seams in their bed?
Hi Dino
Kind of an embarrassment that airstream is failing to be innovative with their floor plans.
Thx for your insight.
Not a fan of this Airstream AT ALL. The cushions look cheap and the overhead bins are ridiculous with those nets. 😂 Nothing beats the Winnebago B class vans!
I agree.
Fun to see! Thanks Scott! Still happy with my 59G layout and feel!! :)
Keep in mind that since THOR purchased Airstream they’ve been milking the name/quality reputation and not improving. It’s taken them years to increase their inverter capacity, use 12v refrigerators, and still don’t use happy-Jack lift beds in any units.
@@Erin-ThorThor acquired Airstream decades ago. They haven’t made any poor decisions.
The cushions are actually pretty comfortable and custom designed by Airstream.
Can’t compare a Travato to this - is more like a Revel - but with a much higher build quality than Revel.
Nothing wrong with a Travato… but I’d look at the regular Airstream 19 which is much more luxurious inside but not as rugged.
Zero no kitchen storage of any food dishes pots pans nothing
Thx for watching
Thor. Airstream is a Thor company.
yes it is. Very good Stan
I would never get an airstream after watching the horrible cross country performance on another youtube channel. Very poor workmanship today.
Thx Kit
Wak ugly interioir 😂😂😂 airstream should hire some good designer from europe
Hi SS
