Good sounding radio. I really like those Radio Shack and Realistic Radios... almost all are Sangean products. These have stood the test of time and great shortwave radios for beginners. I have no problem recommending these. Thanks for the video, enjoy them all and good references. 73s from 🇩🇪 Germany
I bought this radio some years ago from RadioShack, when it was still in operation. It is is pristine condition, I keep it as a back radio for use if power goes out, stuff like that, but I pull it out sometimes when working outside around the house. I think I paid 50 - 75 US dollar for it right around the year 2000 - 2005. It is a great radio. The FM stereo sounds great with powered speakers. Thanks for the review, I'm amazed I found this. I appreciate your enthusiasm.
Hey Todderbert! New to this channel, love the reviews! As a child i grew up with a tiny blue (unknown brand) radio that i took with me everywhere. Keep up the quality videos and great reviews! May i always be tuned in ;)
The switch is for European and Japanese FM signals, which have different fractional frequencies than US stations. I have used this as my travel alarm and news point for decades. With moderate use, alkaline batteries will last for months. It's not a great SW receiver, but adequate for BBC and VoA if local broadcasts are not in English.
I have both the DX-396 and the DX-375. I bought them used on eBay. I think the DX-396 is the better radio for MWDX, especially when paired with a passive loop (like the one Radio Shack sold in the ‘70s). Really enjoy your videos! 73 & Good DX! Steve N5WBI
Dx-390s little brother.. too bad it doesn't have 1khz tuning on sw.. I guess they only did it because of ssb on the 390, for wide band commercial transmissions it's not needed.
With popular brand radios are digital tuners reliable for the long haul? That's something I really want to know as I'm NOT in love with analog tuners -too much fidgeting required. Love the speed and accuracy of digital.
Good review of a nice looking radio, if it was dirty it cleans up nicely. I don't mind the push button tuning on a radio it works for me, my Sangean pr-d4 has push button tuning and it is a great receiver especially on AM, would be a good radio for you to do a review on if you ever get the chance. Keep up the interesting reviews really enjoy them.
I'm working on getting one. I had one for a hour, found out it had some major cosmetic issues and sent it back right away. Cool thing is my wife had some reward points from work that she is letting me use..hopefully I'll get this radio again.
I was talking to my wife about this. I'm going to be featuring ham stuff on the cheap. Most of it mobile in nature, since I can't put up a permanent antenna at my condo yet...there is a move in a proposed bill in congress that HOAs may have to allow an installation of an antenna for a licensed amateur operator.
Then how about reviewing some Rx-only loop antennas such as the Wellbrook? Unfortunately, not a cheap option. Or some home made or kit antennas. Not having a good antenna is the quickest way to lose interest in radio. When you get your license maybe a Tx tuned loop would fit your balcony? The VHF/UHF antennas can be small/indoors. The digital modes seem like a good way to run low power or small antennas.

Thank you, I noticed a huge improvement when I paired this radio to my Tecsun AN-200 Passive...really shines.
Appears to be an awesome radio! Yeap. me too, I really hated to see Radio Shack go away.
Pretty nice set.
Loving it.
Thank you so much my dear

Wooa - great on AM 👍
There is a nice 5 1/2" ferrite antenna inside.

Oh that will be great it is a supreme radio on AM
The radioshack dx 397 is all analog radio that is good on AM.
Good luck on the Amateur Technician Test! I found the test practice phone/ipad apps useful. Maybe you could do some videos about your Ham journey?

A step up from the DX-375, which i think was discontinued by the time this radio came out.
They have similar capabilities on the bands, the DX-396 comes with the Dual Clock, Sleep, and Alarm feature.
