The Salley Gardens est composé en 1940 par Benjamin Britten à partir d'une mélodie traditionnelle sur un poème de Wiliam Butler Yeats publié dans The Wanderings of Oisin and Other Poems en 1889. La chanson appartient aux six volumes d'arrangements du compositeur consacrés aux mélodies folkloriques d'Angleterre, d'Écosse, du Pays de Galles et d'Irlande.

C'est un poème de William Butler Yeats sur une mélodie traditionnelle "The Maids of Mourne Shore".
Peut-être que l'accompagnement au piano vient de Britten, mais cela n'en fait pas une de ses œuvres !

Merci pour votre remarque ! Il s'agit effectivement d'une mélodie traditionnelle réharmonisée par Benjamin Britten qui a ainsi repris un grand nombre de "Folksongs", la description de la vidéo est désormais plus précise 😉

Great voice but i don't agree with his interpretation. Way too much rubato.
Anthony Rolfe Johnson's version is far more Brittenesque.
