I had the rubber duck model when it first came out. I took all the chrome pieces and glued it to my star wars' land speeder. You can say that I was the first to pimp my ride.
I don't have your modeling skill, but when I found this kit at my local Hobby Lobby I had to get it. my first thought on seeing it was "Rubber Duck's truck!" I haven't put an fairing on the cab, or fashioned a bullguard, but I did paint body black & the chrome grill/heI'm just waiting for the decals I ordered to arrive.
April 5, 2020---Thanks for the video. Downloaded it last night, watch it about an hour ago. Like what you did, but.... Drove truck for 15 years, driving Volvo's and Freightliners, both day cabs and sleepers. Never drove a Mack or a long nose Pete. Dispatcher one time thought he was doing me a favor in getting me a Pete and I said no way. Turning radius is sh*t and with that long hood, it's a bitch to accurately gauge how close you are to something. As to Macks, one of our yards had one for sale and since it was unlocked, took a peek inside. OMG! Couldn't believe not only the finish of it, but the way everything was laid out PERFECTLY for a driver. NO having to reach under the turn signal switch to hit a button for example. I also only pulled reefers and vans, never a flatbed, auto carrier or tanker. Anyway, never saw a wind dam like yours, but that's not saying they don't exist. And talk about being ignorant....as I wrote this up, saw a UA-cam recommendation for other videos and not only was a real Mack being shown, but the same kind of wind dam. If you want a regular 3 side one, cut/sand one from a block of balsa wood to size you need. Don't forget to make it just a hair smaller than needed as you have to adjust for the thickness of your styrene. UA-cam has a bunch of videos on how to make your own vacuum form table. This way you can make additional copies for any future trucks you build. But you, like other truck enthusiasts ALL seem to make the same mistake: NO airlines or light cord from back of the truck to the trailer. No airline, you're goin' to be draggin' that trailer in real life. And remember, there's TWO airlines to the trailer...one's the primary airline, the other is a backup one. And they (airlines & gladhands) are usually painted...primary is red, backup is blue. There's also usually a pole which will flew which holds these 3 items, so your lines come from the area between the cab and catwalk, to this pole and from there, to the trailer. The other thing is your cow catcher....your front bumper guard. Looks like it's been welded to the bumper. If so, there's NO way that driver is going to be able to pop the hood and pull it up/ out of the way so he can do his pre/post trip inspections. And from what I've seen on the road, usually they're just above the headlights. You actually have 2 pins which hold it in place. Remove the pins and the cow catcher will come forward enough so hood can be opened without any trouble. The sleepers usually have a head ache rack for the poles which will hold freight from shifting forward or backwards. And on the back of the cab, there's usually a spot light in the upper left corner. Though sometimes there's a 2nd light in the upper right corner. Makes life easier when you have them and hooking everything up. As to you mud flaps, damn, they're AWESOME and most realistic ones I've seen on ANY truck model. Now having said all this, hope you understand that I am NOT bashing your build in ANY way. Been building models (aircraft and some armor) since '74 and I build for me. Thru the years I've tried doing different things and learning from it. Some times I win, some times I fail. Getting back into modeling, but going for 1/35th scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Have something like 4 day cabs & sleepers, along with trailers in 1/32 scale. I am NOT going for the Mad Max bullbleep look either with 1,000 pounds of steel as armor. Why? Not my thing to begin with, but I know for a fact the entire cab/hood is made of FIBERGLASS! Imagine what all this metal is not only going to do to the fiberglass, but how about handling ability? Anyway, thank you for showing off your build and like I said, I liked it. If I hadn't, wouldn't of made any comment or given you a thumbs up. Also, if anyone's interested, check Google for references. And with this virus going around, hospital/county morgues & funeral homes are stuffed with dead people. So NYC is now using reefers to store the dead in. No joke, look it up on UA-cam. Will have some people getting ready to put another dead body inside the reefer, but when the doors are open, zombies are coming out. Something a little different dioramas wise. Take care.
Just building this kit box stock with my 8yr old...brother, you did a fine job on this one making it a Rubber Ducky Mack...great movie, great truck, and you really did it justice...thanks for sharing...
Very impressive and so very close too the movie rig..what a fantastic hobby loved convoy and Smokey and the bandit used too get up early too watch b.j and the bare too.. greetings from Ireland ☘️👍👍 and keep on trucking 👌👌🤟🤟
Dec. 2017---Been driving truck for 15 years, otr and ltl and was interested in how this kit was and would turn out. Good job, but some observations. I've only had my 5th wheel back that far one time and that was hauling a load of beer from Ft. Collins, Colo. to S. Dakota. Otherwise, it pretty much stays in the middle. Wish there had been a close up of your cow catcher, though don't remember any seeing that type with the posts in front of the bumper. Not saying there aren't though. Remember, the hood tilts forward and if the cow catcher is permanently attached to the bumper..... The cow catchers I had, had removable pins at the base of the posts, with the cowcatcher swinging forward/down so the hood could be tiled up. As to your air dam, maybe next time get a chunk of balsa wood carved to the shape/size you want. Just remember to allow for the thickness of the sheet styrene. You could use a heat gun to soften the plastic.....just take your time and use a larger piece of styrene than you actually use. As to the sleeper, why not just add a section of sheet styrene to make it wider? Also couldn't see any airlines or power cord connecting truck to trailer. Never drove a Mack and hate the long nose Pete's, etc. simply because their turning radius's suck. Thanks for the video and yes, I've got a dozen or two semi's and trailers in my unbuilt stash. For all I've said, did give you a thumbs up.
I just built this truck. But I made it look just like it did on the box. But man the trailer was awful. At least the one I got was. It was badly warped and I had to glue and clamp it together for a few days to make it straight. Even then its not perfect. However the truck itself is pretty nice quality for a Snap-Tite. I like your build. Looks great!
It was made by Ertl. Unfortunately it wasn't anywhere close to RD's Mack. Instead of an RS-700 they used a DM-600 (the one with the short nose and offset cab) and just added the bullguard and airdam. You can still find the kits on Ebay, but they aren't cheap.
@bananaphone1999 I just put a piece of thin plastic over it to change it to a RS700 grill. It's still incorrect though as the grill bars should be horizontal (which could be fixed by cutting the center out and flipping it).
I have a model that is missing it's air dam. Saw you made 1 and was wondering if you could make 1 for mine? Not sure the scale but the holes on top of the cab where the tabs go are 1/2" apart. If so we can figure out a price and contact info. Thanks!
That is really nice man, I been getting back into building models but just Gundams at the moment. I need to get more tools/airbrush before I can move on to more complex models. Thanks for the video !
Dec. 2017---I know this is a late reply, but check out the IPMS website. This is for modelers who build everything...cars, trucks, planes, sci-fi, etc. You should find a chapter near you as they're a world wide organization. Also, check your local hobby shop as I'm sure you'll find someone who'll help you. But keep in mind, the modeler will probably have 20-30 hours into building these 2 kits, so price may be up there money wise. So the offer of $50 to build the kit is what I would consider an insult. Hope this helps.
Great model Wildfire 19861987! You mentioned that you got some decals from Jbot? Is that a company? Seeing the real thing lately and finding your video of your build has inspired me to buy the kit and have a go myself!
thanks for the heads up! looks a cheap buy because it is. no engine detail except the crank case and tranny underside typical of snaps. but plastic tires?! anyway, good job! I am not patient enough to rig my own parts so I'll just buy a better kit.
Theres a website called American industrial truck models (aitruckmodels.com) that has the kit in resin check it out its the correct kit with the large sleeper

one of my all time favorite movies ,looks real with the other trucks behind it,great work thanks for sharing it.

You are so talented!

Very Bad-Ass & GRRRREAT job there good buuddy, thas a big 10-4 & keep on TRUCKIN'!!!!
There was at one time an actual kit for the rubber duck mack. Probably all gone into the mist now. I saw them around at the latest in the 80's.
Very impressive!! I like it!
outstanding!
Hey bro, they got the kit on ebay for about 15.00{ofcourse you will have to customize} its a nice kit for the money!!
It turned out very good considering what you had to work with. It's not a perfect replica, but it's close enough. Good job.
Hey wildfire19861987 how did you make the new rubber duck trailer
Is the sleeping compartment detachable?
Nice work !
great work friend!!
What you should do is take an old 1/32 truck frame from one of your other videos and put theack model cab on that
I haven't got them yet, but yes Jbot is a place that sells decals, including movie truck ones.
@bananaphone1999 I just put a piece of thin plastic over it to change it to a RS700 grill. It's still incorrect though as the grill bars should be horizontal (which could be fixed by cutting the center out and flipping it).

Great truck but dude how did you make the grill????
Halfway decent hell it's better than anything I could make
Very cool! Would love to do this but have ZERO patience for such things.
Why is there 2 dislikes? What is there to dislike! Well done looks great
Well, 17 dislikes now but yeah it is stupid, cause this remodel of the Mack is awesome.
That is really nice man, I been getting back into building models but just Gundams at the moment. I need to get more tools/airbrush before I can move on to more complex models.
Thanks for the video !
I Saw that exact same model kit in a local hobby store!
What size c channel did you use is it metal or styrene
convoy a világ legjobb filmje
Awesome song.
Yes that's just the truck. The trailer is 15 1/2" long, and when coupled to it the overall length is 21".
Do you have a duck on the hood, I've seen some 1/32 scale ones for sale on ebay.
@thunderbirds113 It's not for sale for now. If I make another trailer for it I might turn that trailer loose.
Hey wildfire how much would you charge to make me a trailer
I just Build the Rubber Duck Mack RS712L at 1:25.
Greetings from Berlin, Germany
How much would you charge me to build one for my husband he's been looking for one for awhile now truck and trailer thanks.

I'm in the procsess of doing the same thing....where did you get the r.d. trucking decals?
I made them on my computer. Jbot Decals does offer a set online.
thanks
wow
what version of the song is this?
how did u make the trailer?
@WolfyCypressify Now that's creative!
Got it off Ebay, but i've seen it in hobby stores also.
IDK if i'd ever get a chance to make a video. I think I could describe it better with a guide and drawings.
Nice work! Western hood or not.
@kdraper2007 some how my post got mangled, I painted the chrome grill & headlight surrounds white & ordered some decals online.
Great model Wildfire 19861987!
You mentioned that you got some decals from Jbot? Is that a company? Seeing the real thing lately and finding your video of your build has inspired me to buy the kit and have a go myself!
