Barbets are very special. There is a lump in my throat as I write as we just said goodbye to our 14 year old Barbet. He was the best companion ever. We wish you many years of joy with Tuppence.
Our family friend has a mushroom dog which recognizes 12 different mushrooms. You can train her by using identical jars/tins, one which has the smell of a specific mushroom and others are empty, make sure the dog can’t get to the mushroom so the jars should have a lid with holes, a mesh or something similar. When the dog points to the correct jar, give a treat. Little by little add some distracting smells (moss, pine cones, mushrooms you don’t want her to find) in the other jars. Also you should train her to either bark or sit when the mushroom has been found, using a paw or nose touch the mushroom will often end up the being destroyed or eaten. After this period you should start to hide mushrooms around the yard or forest for the dog to find with you, just use gloves or the dog will only start finding mushrooms with your scent on them, also make note that when you hide them, your will leave a smell trail so the dog might think that by following your scent will lead to a mushroom, so you might need to mask it by crisscrossing in the woods or something similar to mask it. You should start with a mushroom you know there are plenty of in your area so that they will be many succesful moments when starting out. When the dog has comfortably learned one mushroom type, you can add another. I think the biggest threat to dogs in the Finnish wilderness are the common european adder and disease carrying ticks, unless the dog is alone, then it’s the lynx and wolves. Happy mushroom training!
Hello from Georgia, USA. As a former dog breeder myself, thank you for your sound reasoning! There were some I declined to sell to because it was clearly a bad match. Your well thought out choice will certainly be a boon for your family. The scenery in your shots is gorgeous and well-framed, as always. Your videos bring us MUCH cheer, and we learn as well ! Thank you for sharing your journey !
Hi @cameronmitchell9163 Love this channel, too! Rarely notice other viewers from GA, thus, I'm in Macon, Ga! Nice to "meet" you! Love this channel & admire their tenacity! Best to you & yours!❤
Absolutely adorable. I also never heard of this breed, but she looks like a perfect match for your family. I look forward to seeing more of her adventures. Love from Ireland ❤
What a joy watching Tup frolic in the snow around you. How sweet for you to have a little pup again; im sure Moss approves. Moss was why i started watching you and i was so sad to hear of his illness and passing. I understand exactly when you said "moss WAS my Border Collie". Tuppence seems to be an amazing puppy and a wondeful addition to your family. She is gorgeous and it was interesting hearing about her Breed. Neat that you have a dog from your new home and from your partner's homeland!
What a beautiful puppy, Daniel!!! She is just the perfect breed of dog for your little family!!! I love the scenery and watching Tupp play! It's so wonderful to see you so happy, Daniel!!! Sending love and all my best to you all from Costa Rica. Xo
The wolf population has grown quite significantly in the past 20 years or so, especially in western Finland. Previously wolves were nigh extinct from the area, but new regulations to protect them and a growing deer population have brought them back in some numbers. Consistent wolf sightings are quite a new phenomenon around the area you are located. It’s only during recent years that people have had to start taking precaution because of wolves. The discussion around wolves is still relatively active, fresh and perhaps divisive. In any case, the interactions you may have with wolves could be quite novel and not something long time residents of the area would be much more well versed in.
What a cutie! Welcome, little Tuppence, to the family! I’d never heard of this breed either. I thought she looks like a Portuguese water dog. I can totally understand how you’d never want to replace Moss, but I’m happy for y’all that you’re welcoming this sweet girl to take space alongside his memory. Congratulations to you all. Enjoy getting to know her ❤
Tup is perfect for your family! I love that you've trained her to respond to praise rather than treats. When she looked straight at the camera - those eyes!!!!! Beautiful. I completely understand about not having another Border Collie. I'm so happy for you to have already made such a wonderful life in Finland!
Hello Daniel, i have a male dog, Jack. He is a barbet in everyway except in breed! He has all the loves to swim in the sea and any body of water he can find! He's besotted with our 2yr old grand daughter and never leaves her side when she's visiting ! Anywho, tuppence will be a blessing I'm sure.
I'm so happy for you and Angela for opening your hearts to Tuppence. A life lived with dogs is one of shear joy. I understand completely about Moss being your border collie. He was the best dog and we all grieve for your loss. Thank you for showing us your walk through the woods and what I believe is your new meditation rock.
What a delightful dog! So lovely to hear about this breed and to see her playing. We had a miniature poodle growing up that we treated like, well, a dog, not a showpiece. She was intelligent, active, sensitive. Interesting to think of her being connected with the Barbet breed. Really appreciate how thoughtful you and Angela are about your lives. Many blessings on the 4 of you as you continue to grow together in Finland!
What a good girl she is! I am so happy you were able to bring a new family member home after Moss. She is beautiful. After losing my dog 3 years ago my heart can no longer take the pain and grief of having another dog. He was the last dog I will ever have. No more for me. 😢 But you have definitely thought things through and she will have a wonderful life with you and your family. Care for her and give her the love she deserves, she will protect you and bring you joy all her life. Truly a blessing to have a dog in your life! ❤ This made my heart smile.
Hey man, welcome to the Nordics (I'm your neighbour from Denmark)! I remember watching your first video when you only had maybe 1-2k subs (wow you seriously have 170k+ now?? congrats), I was (and sadly still am) in a very depressed state, but your videos gave me some sort of hope that life could look different one day. I was sad to see mossy go, but am happy to meet Tuppence the Barbet. Hope you all have many peaceful and wonderful days ahead of you
Thank you for letting us meet Tuppence , Daniel . I'm sure she will join all of you in new adventures and bring her joy to your family. Moss will be walking with you both in the forest and running around with Tup. Sweet Moss 💔
Oh! She is just the cutest! Bouncing about like a furry ball. I also live in the woods and had a lovely dog with a very similar coat and I can tell you that your biggest chore with her will be keeping her brushed and matt free. That shaggy coat will bring as much of the forest home with her as it can snag up. My poor girl would come in with branches and brambles, even occasionally a bee trapped in that mop. Your plan for clipping her in the spring will prove to be a very good one I think.
We have a poodle and you can spin their coat into yarn. Im knitting a cardigan right now from his hair, combined with wool. My daughter grooms him, about three times each year. Tup is a beauty
What a sweetie! Are you prepared for ticks already? As soon as the average temperature reaches +5 C, they start to move around, and some of them carry dangerous diseases. If there are deer in your area, the risk is higher, because deer carry a LOT of ticks. I lost my ability to digest cow's milk, barley, oats, rye, and wheat after having late diagnosed Lyme disease in 2020, and this seems permanent. 0/10, do not recommend! We keep ticks off our dogs and keep the lawn short to lower the risk, as Lyme can be caught again. We are all also vaccinated against tick borne encephalitis, which could be deadly. Best of luck!
Sweet Tup! Barbets are a lovely breed and I'm so happy you managed to find one! I know many people train their dogs to find chanterelles specifically, some dog training centres even offer courses for that. Barbets are closely related to Lagotto Romagnolos, the famous Italian truffle dogs, so I'm sure Tup would be great at mushroom hunting! 🥰
I have never heard of that breed but Tuppence seems ideal for your family and situation in Finland and such a lucky dog to be chosen for the adventure.
Tuppence looks just like my brown standard poodle! They do get hair in their ears but if you pull it out regularly they won't get infections. Tup looks like a wonderful addition to your family!
Nice to see spring progressing well already there where you are, you have much less snow there than there is further north and inland elsewhere in Finland. You probably knew it, but since you are located in the southwestern archipelago, you have the mildest climate zone in Finland. Which means that you have the longest growing season, good news for your garden and crops! 👍🏻
Ah, she is beautiful, and so clever! Congratulations! Thank you for teaching so much about the breed, and your thought process in selecting your newest family member! Always so educational!
I've had rescues all my life and I'm 100% with you on the rescue vs pedigree matter I adore my boys but they are mixtures of breeds I would never ever pick up as a pet house dog and as much as I love them I do struggle a bit (one is husky x golden, the other is border collie x boxer) as all the breeds in the mix are bit too active and crazy for me at this time of my life I'm not saying they are my last rescues but I may actually go for a pedigree dog to ensure the size and temperament I think your choice is very sensible and Tuppence is going to be the most wonderful companion for all of you and especially your wee girl 😊
Let me just explain that poodles are absolutely NOT just "toy dogs". They are, by all metrics, one of the smartest and most trainable breeds in the world (sometimes even higher than border collies). It's their brain and love for work that got them hired in the circus, they just have this weird reputation, but poodles are great working, active, family dogs. But either way, barbet is a great fit for you guys. Congratulations!
Not yet, though they do live in the forests here. I was told by a neighbour that many were killed by hunters in recent years so the population has decreased in the southwest. I think we will see one before long though, which is something exciting to look forward to. :)
Tuppence is adorable, I wish you many happy years together. The only drawback I see with her fur is that ice will stick to it, expect some puddles on your floors during winter ❤
Beautiful pup! We had an Irish Water Spaniel called Siorcha. She looked exactly like your new baby! Wolf tracks? Amazing! How exciting! I would feel just like you do about that wonderful prospect. Missing you from Ireland but loving watching your new adventure. Tuppence is a very fortunate little dog. She will clearly be very loved & very well cared for. Sending love to you all from County Fermanagh ❤❤❤
Your IWS wouldn’t have had curly hair on her/his face or tail…. But they do share the color, curls, double coat, and beards. And they are both rare breeds.
Oh my goodness! I can’t believe it. We met and fell in love with Barbets about 14 years ago. They are exceptional dogs. Smart and funny. Friendly and patient but up for anything. Ours is 13 years old but still acts like a puppy (in all the best ways).
Congratulations on your new family member. Tuppence is a cutie. We have a barbet at the doggy daycare where I work. He is a well-mannered, calm dog. Great for children to grow up with dogs. My now adult children still talk about their childhood dogs. Special memories 🐕❤
8:00 Greetings from Finland. I usually let my hair grown from August till coldest of the winter has passed which this year was about a week ago. My hair was at that point about 15cm and I went down to 1mm as that's the best haircut I can give myself and I'll keep on shaving my head till august when I'll again let it grow for winter. My mother says that even her grandfather used to do that.
Lovely Tuppence ❤ I adore the water dogs, I’m a poodle person - I just don’t think you can beat them for intelligence and versatility and as we live on a farm that’s great because she can bring the sheep in, flush birds and pick up, alert us to visitors and then entertain children and I’m sure Tuppence will be kept as busy. Personally I can’t cope with the big fur, she brings the entire outdoors in especially this winter as it’s been so wet I just have her clipped short, easy as I can do it myself every 4-6 weeks. What I would say is at least get Tuppence used to the sensation and noise of clippers, because we used to get so many water dogs come in for their annual clip off who had never seen clippers or had to stand still on a table - and it’s not a 20 minute job!!! Enjoy xx
When you do cut Tup's hair, it could come in very handy as mulch around vegetables or other plants to deter deer from too much nibbling. She is adorable.
She is adorable!! Looking forward to seeing more of her in future videos ❤. And thanks for being so respectful towards wolfs. They are beautiful animals. It‘s such a shame they are so misunderstood 🙏
What a funny little pup! I first thought she was a lagotto, "the truffle dog". You can probably train clever Tup to look for other mushrooms in the autumn.
Tuppence is so beautiful and active young pup! I had also never heard of the breed before, but they seem like a great one! Looking forward to seeing Tup grow into adulthood :)
Tup is beautiful. I have an Old English Sheep Dog, her hair keeps growing & like you I thought I’d cut it short once a year, but she’s such a muck magnet it turned into quarterly trims, we are both happier that way 😊
Tuppence is a sweetheart! Your heart is big, plenty of room to love another dog. She has really landed on her paws being part of your family. They bring so much joy don't they! I think she is made from chocolate!! Enjoy!
Congratulations, Tuppence is adorable. Never heard of the breed either! Dogs are the best, somehow I have three now lol. My 12 year old is a golden retriever x poodle , a perfect dog. Enjoy her and what a place to grow up :)
It's interesting that you mentioned mushroom hunting with your new dog, because when I first saw her on your video I thought she was a Lagotto Romagnolo, the world famous Italian truffle dog. I live in Italy and looked into this breed of dog at one time. Here, they are trained to hunt truffles before they are sold, and because they're extremely expensive, I'm thinking most Italians would not want an untrained puppy of this breed. So, since I have no idea if you know about the Lagotto Romagnolo, I thought I'd mention it. Also, Tuppence is gorgeous and delightful. I hope you and your family enjoy her for many years to come.
Barbets are very special. There is a lump in my throat as I write as we just said goodbye to our 14 year old Barbet. He was the best companion ever. We wish you many years of joy with Tuppence.

Wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to explain the process, we'll definitely give this a try later this year. :)
She is gorgeous! Her eyes are so full of love and fun. She sounds perfect for your family ❤
How can a dog be so cute and full of himself?
It gives me joy to see him play in the snow.
What a wonderful addition to the family.
What a darling Tuppence is,
so full of fun :)

She is absolutely adorable!
Congrats on the newest family member!

Fancy meeting you here!😊
@@pattern-shift indeed! ❤️
Aaawww, Tuppence is delightful, and certainly has 'bounce' well practiced. Sat here chuckling all the way through this at her.
We have a 13 month old boy named Appa and seeing Tupp explore and play around in the snow just takes me right back to those moments
Beautiful dog

She looks a very happy puppy! Going to be a decent size too😄
Welcome to the Family, Tupp! You are Gorgeous & Precious!❤❤❤
Loved meeting Tup!! Tup the pup!
Thanks again for your video!!❤ The best to you and your family with the wonderful new addition!!❤

Such a gorgeous doggy. And what wonderful birdsong in the background. ❤😊
Oh my goodness, her wee bunny hops in the snow at the end was the most adorable thing I've ever seen. She's a wee cutie. Lee :)
16:40 What a brilliant idea! Tatti and kanttarelli
Such a cute dog.
Great to see you settling so well into your new life in Finland. All the best to you and your family.
Tuppence looks just like my brown standard poodle! They do get hair in their ears but if you pull it out regularly they won't get infections. Tup looks like a wonderful addition to your family!
Am so happy for you 😀 Congrats, she's utterly scrumptious 🩷
She's a lovely dog. Something in her eyes reminded me of Moss.
Lovely to see a happy puppy matched with a happy owner! Having googled the breed, I can't wait to see how she reacts to a dip in water.

I've had rescues all my life and I'm 100% with you on the rescue vs pedigree matter
I adore my boys but they are mixtures of breeds I would never ever pick up as a pet house dog and as much as I love them I do struggle a bit (one is husky x golden, the other is border collie x boxer) as all the breeds in the mix are bit too active and crazy for me at this time of my life
I'm not saying they are my last rescues but I may actually go for a pedigree dog to ensure the size and temperament
I think your choice is very sensible and Tuppence is going to be the most wonderful companion for all of you and especially your wee girl 😊
What a beautiful dog you got!
May you be able to keep this gorgeous bundle of life for many years to come !
Let me just explain that poodles are absolutely NOT just "toy dogs". They are, by all metrics, one of the smartest and most trainable breeds in the world (sometimes even higher than border collies). Wow, you do a great job on your hair! And big congratulations on your pup!
Love how she enjoys being around you. She looks so happy. ❤ I'm wishing you many wonderful years together!
This is probably a stupid question considering you live in rural SW Finland, but have you spotted a moose yet while there?
Not yet, though they do live in the forests here. I was told by a neighbour that many were killed by hunters in recent years so the population has decreased in the southwest. I think we will see one before long though, which is something exciting to look forward to. :)

You make me want one.
Sweet pup❤ true Moss was your border collie. Miss you Moss😢
What a splendiferous doggo indeed 😍 How lucky are you !
I"m 40, I've been cutting my own hair since I'm a teenager. I cut them every two months. That's a lot of money saved. And lovely dog!
I love how you live so "deliberately." I'm keyed into that as well. Loose, but deliberate. Impressive.
Aww. She looks so smart and happy. Congratulations!
Have always enjoyed your various hair styles! You'll save lot's of money being able to groom Tupp yourself!❤
Loving this, such a beautiful barbet! Cant wait to see her grow up!
Congratulations on the new addition! She is beautiful
Congratulations on your new family member. Tuppence is a cutie. We have a barbet at the doggy daycare where I work. He is a well-mannered, calm dog. Great for children to grow up with dogs. My now adult children still talk about their childhood dogs. Special memories 🐕❤

Are you singing & playing guitar on the closing credits? If so, Fantastic!!! Perhaps make an album?❤
I do like listen to you and your ideas and then you say something that turns me into a frenzy , just makes me think that you are very lucky,
Pure joy watching her bouncing about in the snow 😀
I bet that breed is soon very popular here in Finland after you good videos. 😊😅
Nice to meet you, Tupp!

Missing your Irish folktales 😭 Do make more videos like them.
Love from India ❤️
When you do cut Tup's hair, it could come in very handy as mulch around vegetables or other plants to deter deer from too much nibbling. She is adorable.
I’m a fan of getting pets from Rescues
"What a beautiful dog....but not right for us." Switch to Tuppence's reaction at 05:26.
She is adorable!! Looking forward to seeing more of her in future videos ❤. And thanks for being so respectful towards wolfs. They are beautiful animals. It‘s such a shame they are so misunderstood 🙏
Beautiful playful puppy 😊
What a happy vlog, Tups is absolutely gorgeous 😍 welcome to the Mossy Bottom family ❤
We so needed this. Daniel without a dog felt so lonely. There was a great emptiness in the videos without ducks, kunne pigs, and our faithful Moss.
Tuppence seems like a very good dog. She is darling. ❤
What a funny little pup! I first thought she was a lagotto, "the truffle dog". You can probably train clever Tup to look for other mushrooms in the autumn.

She is adorable and sounds perfect for the family, so excited for you guys! 😊💚
Tup's joy of just playing in the snow while you are so serious and concentrating on filming is so adorable. It made me smile from ear to ear!
What beautiful dog & a lovely & informative video ❤❤
Tup is beautiful. I have an Old English Sheep Dog, her hair keeps growing & like you I thought I’d cut it short once a year, but she’s such a muck magnet it turned into quarterly trims, we are both happier that way 😊
She is soooooooo gorgeous... What a treasure... 🐶💞Love the name though could have been PENNY I surpose 😂😂😂
Tuppence is a sweetheart! Your heart is big, plenty of room to love another dog. She has really landed on her paws being part of your family. They bring so much joy don't they! I think she is made from chocolate!! Enjoy!
What a sweet update!! Congratz
Congratulations, Tuppence is adorable. Never heard of the breed either! Dogs are the best, somehow I have three now lol. My 12 year old is a golden retriever x poodle , a perfect dog. Enjoy her and what a place to grow up :)
So good to see you have a puppy
Tuppence is such a cutie!
Thank's for yet another interesting video! 🙏
Great name :) can't wait to watch her develop
