    I think most game critics over-rate games in general, to the point where 8.5 and up are generally considered the only games worth really playing. But it leaves no room for any impression other than "excellent" or "bad."
    A 9 should mean "this game is incredible, and if you really enjoy gaming, you owe it to yourself to play it."
    But it doesn't mean that at all. It actually means "this game is competent, and has no problems so catastrophic as to ruin the experience. It's worth your time if you're already interested in the previews/ franchise"
    That's what a 7 should mean.

      Elden ring was the Game that makes me finally realise that linear games are usually better than open world options, well, or something more like sekiro, which is linear but the areas intselfts feels like more open with more pacht, i would like a linear Game, but with more areas and bosses while don't sacrificate quality, but is very posible that what i'm saying is not posible or is way, too exigent to handle

    • @Harevald
      @Harevald 2 роки тому +1

      @@jajasking9652 Open world are just insanely tough to do right. Their worlds are so big, that it would take decades to polish them as much as linear, closed areas. Every open world I have touched has some lazy quests, areas with filler enemies, dungeons, repetitive tasks to do etc. Probably the best I tried was Witcher 3, and it still clearly leads your way to not go to other areas too soon, as your Geralt will be too low level to do anything. In Souls games at least you can beat the game at level 1, in Witcher you need to progres main story or do side quests and actually level up, or enemies will one shot you and you won't do anything to them. This makes open world feel way less open, as you can't really go wherever you want
      Balancing challenge is also insanely more difficult in open world games, because well... if the player can go anywhere, then you have to worry not about few possibilities but thousands of them. But this would probably could be left as a problem that solves itself by players (if area feels too difficult, try other area. it's open world, you should expect that). Problem occurs in opposite way to me - if I actually managed to pull of difficult areas early through pure perseverance, then I'm left with piss easy other areas. Leveling systems in general tend to make game easier the longer you play and the more you explore.
      I love Sekiro because it just throws away leveling stats, but still rewards you for exploration. You get more heals, upgrade for prostetic arm, some lore, many minibosses and you are rewarded for killing minibosses rather than grinding trash mobs or collecting ton of shit (like collecting souls by running around the area in souls games). You can't ruin yourself by making bad build in Sekiro, you can't also cheese Sekiro by making op build. You either git gud or get out.

    • @jajasking9652
      @jajasking9652 2 роки тому

      @@Harevald exactly, is soo hard to do It right, and, the balancing of the Witcher 3 is even worse than the elden ring one,for example, there is literally random little areas with super powerfull enemies that can one shot you in the region that says recomended level: 11, but i think that the Witcher can be posible at low level, only because of the Magic skill that makes a shield that basicly makes imposible to get one shoted, and there is one op skill that is basicly the food items that heals you for 5-10 seconds, now heals you for literally 20 minutes, like, WTF, curative item management is gone, and elden ring has some op weapons that only recently got balanced, but still, is really hard to do a good open world, the best way to do It is either make really fun to move around It without fast travel ( for example, spiderman games, zelda BOTW or even genshing impact) or make a small but dense open world ( like GTA San Andreas )

    • @Harevald
      @Harevald 2 роки тому +1

      @@jajasking9652 Small but dense sounds like a solution. I'm always looking for games that don't waste my time. I would rather play good 10 hours game, than 50 hours game where only 10 are good parts. Yup, just cut the shit part entirely, don't waste players time. Trivial quests, grinding, escort missions, side jobs that require mundane repetition (I love GTA SA, but doing 100% in this requires you to do every little side job like drawing a damn truck across the whole map, not very engaging and you have to do it for a while) and more.
      Art helps with killing boredom while traveling, but it gets stale if you need to cross the same area multiple times. I understand that people love creative design of DS1, but to be fair, doing runbacks for everything also got annoying, to the point where I was happy that I received item to warp to other areas. I think Sekiro did it best, have some shortcuts, but have ability to travel with bonfires + ofc zero runbacks to bosses. Not minibosses unfortunately, the first area when you fought drunkard in burning Hirata Estate almost made me quit, as I wasn't good enough at that point and killing trash mobs required like solid 8 minutes of killing and kiting, only to die to big guy in 20 seconds. I hate doing easy part over and over just to get spanked in the last part, which I can barely practice due to how draining the early part is. I think that if you proved that you can do something once, it's good enough. Bosses with multiple phases are enough of repetition, we don't need trash mobs before boss fights

    Using Godskin Duo bossfight as an example for flaws in Elden Ring is so on point, imagine yourself fighting Ornstein and Smough, but Smough is as fast and agile as Ornstein. Is that fair ?? No it’s fucking not. Having a gaddamn huge sized boss has always been perfected by FromSoft because they are usually slow but hit hard, think Gapping Dragon or Yhorm for example, unlike Sister Friede and Abyss watchers who are small in size and have little poise but extremely fast and aggressive. So when you have a very large boss who is very aggressive and fast but also hits like a truck is unfair and unfun to fight.

    It’s ironic how the from soft fanboys that love being challenged and hate being coddled, have to be coddled when criticizing their video game and hate having their opinions challenged.
    No video game has released perfect?
    Bioshock
    Resident Evil 4
    I honestly think Elden Ring has rightly earned a 7-8. It’s obviously very heavily front loaded and the content starts to get sparse in the atlas plateau. The cave discovery pretty much dissolves after limgrave and I’m getting bored of it already and I’m pretty sure im not close to beating it. There’s fuck all story and I have no desire to keep going to find out what the hell im doing the the lands between. Same thing happened to me with Bloodborne. Stopped playing because I really didn’t give AF. The first Mario has more incentive to complete the game than any from soft title. I can’t stop now I have to rescue the princess!
    I’m glad you brought up Call of Duty when critiquing Elden Ring because I have always had similar thoughts. From Soft is essentially re-releasing the same game over and over again with a different coat of paint and a new font exactly like CoD yet from soft gets endless praise.

    • @YourLocalYummyPasserby
      @YourLocalYummyPasserby 2 роки тому

      To your first point, i dont think those are perfect but there are 100% much closer to "perfection" than most games people here cite.
      For second point, it just seems you never had the raw personnal incentive or invest to play the game. If a mario games gives you more incentive thats totally fine, this more of personnal criticism.
      Your point on Call of Duty and Fromsoftware games being very similar. Ya thats kinda true, Fromsoftware hasnt really innovated in gameplay,storytelling, npcs,quest,balancing,glitches and music since Dark souls. Other similarity is you could say the scenery, themes or situation of fromsoftware titiles change, like how Dark Souls and Bloodborne are totally different universe. But remember CoD Advance warfare and WW2. Makes it worse , when one realizes Fromsoftware used to release big content and games annually from Dark Souls 2 to Dark Souls 3 The Ringed City. Sekiro literally force fromsoft into adapting Ubisoft's major franchises release schedule. These are just similarities really and Fromsoftware still are alot better than CoD games and further more Activision.

    What ruins this game for me is the poor attention to enemies and the areas that they should be located in. When you get to a new area, it's natural to expect enemies that are native to that area. Not rats in every area, or the same boss in every area. It completely ruins the experience of finding something new when it's really not. They got very lazy for end game in Elden Ring and it needs to be called out.
    I'm around 380 hours into Elden Ring. I love it but to say that something with this much half assed, lazy development is a 10/10 is a slap in the face to devs that take the time to make sure EVERY area is unique.
    The input reading is also lazy. They spent so much time on making the map so large, they didn't spend the time to fine tune the bosses so they just put this idiotic input reading to make it appear difficult. It's like fighting a computer, not a character.
    The (very few) questlines are impossible to follow without watching a guide. That really gets under my skin. A simple mark on the map us all we needed to enjoy the game. Overall the game is an 8.5 / 10. A perfect score is objectively wrong.
    And finally, the last boss is probably the worst in video game history. I want to fight a boss, not chase a boss around a lake.

      It's not unreasonable to believe something crawled out of crumbling and ended up in an early game cave but wtf are they doing in the Haligtree.
      Enemies that are narratively linked to some areas show up for no ass reason other than the same hack that butchered Dark Souls 2 also lead this game and brought that laziness to Elden Ring with a few stone statues that need keys to boot.

      By the time I made it to the mountain tops of giants I was begging for Elden Ring to be over with already, it was so boring, so tedious, so bloated with rehashes and recycled late game enemies that could each function as their own miniboss encounters (which most of them did in the first half of the game) that I literally spent the last third of the game sprinting from story boss to story boss all the way to the end, not even fighting the mobs or exploring the zones because of how much off a chore it was.

They would need to strategically cut down on the repetition, balance the endgame bosses to still be hard but not BS, make questlines like Millicent's work better with the non-linearity of the game, fill in plot threads that got dropped like Gideon Ofnir, Miquella, and Varre/Mohg (quite likely to come in a DLC), and continue to balance the PVP. Sure their lore is cool, but lore is the garnish that makes a dish amazing, it isn't a meal in and of itself. Remembering the past of video games, and those video games who werent in the lime light. To me and to many people, Elden Ring is only overrated when we as gamers remember its past and obscure competitors. Its funny to me that the spiritual successor to one of the linearest Fromsoft rpgs is the game where in average you spend most of time in dungeon disconnected to plot in the middle of nowhere. In an old Fromsoft or hell even a Bethesda game that random dungeon could have a keystone to important lore or spot for a special mechanic (I know there are just that do have special mechanics in Elden Ring, its in average they are usually introducing the mechanic or the amount of random special are low dungeons). But hey atleast its one of the peaks of art and exploration within the gaming industry. Fromsoft and George can atleast give us an artistic masterpiece which its improves on its spiritual predecessor's overall desgin, Evergrace. Music is also one of the peaks, do it didnt really give much emotion other than EPIC espcially compared to Demon souls, Bloodborne,Sekiro, Dark souls 1 and even Evergrace. To conclude, as whole I do think its overrated. Is it a maspiece? Maybe as whole? No. Cerrtain aspects of it? Yes atleast according this video's definition. Perfect? Maybe talk about my insight of perfection in at a different time.

    Elden ring is a really good game however the massive amount of blind praise it is getting especially from the likes of the act man really annoys me because the game is filled to the brim with alot of issues both intentional and unintentional. it's like fromsoft are deliberately sabotaging their own game just to make it hard for hards sake. sure the previous souls games had their hard for hards sake BS but the majority of those games had a skill cap and a learning curve to them. whereas Elden ring resorts more to the hard for hards sake BS which had enemies and bosses alike do all kinds of outright broken unfair shit like asspulling attacks and powers out of nowhere,blatant input reading,none stop combos,corner rushing,unlimited range,unlimited stamina,every boss feels like a ninja despite being the size of a building and they spam the same broken one shot attacks over and over it's like they modelled the AI in this game on PVP player behaviour.
    it's servers are terrible as well they are literal fossils and the game is built in away to actively discourage co-op you basically can only fight bosses and clear dungeons with friends when they should have had dedicated servers and allowed full invite drop in drop out co-op (the limited number of summons is BS) and allowed full unrestricted access to the open world were every player in co-op gets their horse and can explore with a very forgiving tether.
    i still enjoy the game however a masterpiece it aint.

    I would prefer Dark Souls 4 over Elden Ring in a way. I'm not a fan of the open world in Elden Ring, for me it started to become boring during my first playthrough, so I'd rather have another (bigger) game like Dark Souls. I always thought what made From Software games special in a way was that the whole game was one big dungeon, and what made exploration interesting there was that you never knew what theme to expect after the next corner when it linked to a completely different area, or when an elevator or ladder looped back in a clever way to create a shortcut. Elden Ring is mostly empty open space that looks great, enemies and enemy encounters don't matter in the open world, because you can just ride pass them and the only thing to find is (at least to me) boring dungeons that are just like chalice dungeons. So for me the first few hours in Elden Ring where fun and exploration was interesting, but soon I realized that in the open world there was no real secrets to find (only small stuff like dungeons or the 100x copy paste open world boss), so it became repetitive real fast and started to feel more like work. I love exploration and especially finding secrets, that's why I love Souls-Borne games, I love finding hidden areas, optional bosses or covenants, but I'd rather look for them in an interesting, finely crafted dungeon, than in an empty open world.
    Anyway, TL;DR I'd rather have another closed world game like Dark Souls, but innovative or different in other ways like gameplay and fight mechanics or theme, a game like Sekiro or Bloodborne.

If you're lacking in skill, you will get better every time you fail. The music is amazing and fits the game perfectly. The controls are crisp, they can't be more accurate. Some games tried, but didn't quite reach it. The graphics and the style are spot on. The game has optional, incredibly hard content for those who want it. The length of the game is just right, it doesn't overstay its welcome and it's not too short, either. If you make the game easier, it's closer to every other game nowdays; you can't fail in any way and you won't get better. If you make it harder, it's too hard (hence the optional content is hard). The game is fair in every portion. From a game developer perspective, I simply can't find anything in the game that would make it better, without making it too easy, too hard, too long or too short.

    Replay ability is also an overrated metric in my opinion. I loved the Last of Us but I saw the story and don't feel the need to see it again. Elden Ring is not innovative in mechanics, but it is still an innovative game which combines many mechanics from different genres and compiles . Does it make good do? Kinda , why? Because there's a reason many of those mechanics were divided into approriate genres in the first place. In Elden Ring for every good thing they add , they then remove 1 good thing usually found previous games and add 2 bad ones. Lets not get with the fact that the game engine is nearly Bethesda's creation engine level of glitchy.

    3) Terrible balance and im not talking about bosses im talking about weapons and spells as well but dont ignore the Boss / Enemie balance issue, I Remeber in DS2 ppl ranted about some of the issues that are in Elden ring with a VENGENCE so if your going to ignore this? Grats your apart of the issue why this game is so OVERRATED to shit.

CAN you explain why its better then thouse other games coz Ironpineapple Angryjoe and many others are basicly fan boys creaming there pants when it comes to this game with no reason what so ever
    the BIGGEST Issue this game and its community has is its community, They are so vague and toxic about eveything that its like Grats you just proved me right in that your game / community is toxic as shit and your unable to give good specifics
    HONESTLY? You CANT figure out why people are calling this over-rated to shit and such SHOULD BE FUCKEN OBVIOIUS

    The whole 10 scale is a bullshit and unnecessary. It should be a 1-5 where: 3 is just the starting point, the middle road, average game. Lower than that: 2 worse than average, 1 simply a bad game. As we go up 4 is a better than average, a good game, and 5 is just a very good game (it dont have to be perfect, shouldnt be called perfect, just a very good). Thats it, and in that list Elden Ring could be a 5, cuz its not a "5=perfect game score", just a very good, impactful game (impactful to the players, to the industry). The reviewers just make their work harder with these bloated 10 lists, where the numbers dont have an exact meaning....

    This is gonna sound weird, but I honestly don't really care about the creativity of the franchises, I care about the quality of each game. I don't dislike e.g. the latest Assassin's Creed because the game is not original enough compared to the previous ones, but because the game by itself gets boring after a couple of hours. And at the same time I could probably handle another Sekiro or Bloodborne every year or two, because the gameplay is so entertaining I never get tired of it. I actually think sometimes devs are overly eager to innovate, and end up "fixing what ain't broke", forcibly changing certain gameplay elements without letting them naturally develop.

    The fact that almost no reviews mentioned the glaringly obvious issues of enemy/boss aggression and health/imbalance and hidden combo extension/input reading and no counter windows in the mid to late/endgame makes me question if reviewers actually reached bosses like Malekith and Elden Beast.
    The game is still a 9/10, and a strong 9/10 for me, but it needs more fair endgame enemies and bosses, for more builds than just bleed. Design, art direction, music and especially world design is 12/10, never has an open world game been as good, and gameplay is so intoxicatingly good. I just wish that I’d be excited fighting Malenia rather than dreading it.
    Edit: before anyone calls me a scrub I have 100%:ed the game’s achievements/trophies, with three actual runs through NG+ to get the different endings; no new character or save backups.

      While I still don't like the way bosses act in Elden Ring, I still love the fact that they changed the boring "roll, hit and repeat" mentality to "evade, think and attack If possible". Most bosses don't play by the same rules as we do, but it was a necessary move. You have to pay attention to their hands before rolling. Delay attacks, I think, are a great addition to Elden Ring. You can get OP and go back to a early game boss and still get your ass kicked If you are not careful enough.
      The game has balance issues, I agree, but it's really a refreshing breath to see combat change. Maliketh, for me, was a frustrating boss fight. Not because it was trash, because my camera was all over the place and I couldn't even spot myself on the screen, it just ruined my experience. Malenia on the other hand was never a fun fight. It was boring and obnoxious. Orphan was a hard boss, and yet I had so much fun fighting him, same goes for Gael, or Nameless King, or Sword Saint Isshin. Malenia is bad and nobody can change my mind.

    • @YourLocalYummyPasserby
      @YourLocalYummyPasserby 2 роки тому +4

      @@OXY187 The "roll, hit and repeat" is only really applicable to Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. Majority of encounters Demon Souls and Dark Souls did have "evade, think and attack" the gimmicky aspects of bosses made sure some did force (even when they were pretty bad like BoC or DG). Dark Souls 2 is a clusterf@ck, so I am not talking about that. Sekiro is more of adapting to your enemy and using all tools at hand.
      The "roll, hit and evade" is more of a mentallity built after so much training, its seem more of a scalling thing than anything else. You can technically make every fight boil down to "roll, hit and evade" but realistically it can only occur when your understanding of the game causes one to create a simplified skeema for the only part that is truly fun and challenging. Obviously I know your not saying the entire combat is "roll, hit and evade", but it just seems strange to praise Elden Ring at all the games for not so callded having this mentallity.

    I can understand why many fans are dedicated to removing all negativity for this game. Every year, we see a new mega franchise or sacred cow studio go down in flames due to fan backlash, and it's not hard to get in the headspace of a player who will do anything to keep Elden from ending up as a cellmate to Cyberpunk, No Man's Sky, Battlefront 2, or Dark Souls 2.
    It's not just the player count that suffers, fan disapproval bleeds into how you feel about yourself for liking something, and it's a lot easier to ban negativity than it is to carefully analyze, correct, and integrate your thoughts and feelings in the face of contradiction. It only gets more complicated when you're trying to pull for sequels and dlc, and you might be set adrift by a loud mob shoving the directors and publishers in a different, but equally wrong, direction.
    But these vanguard fans don't understand that healthy criticism is vital to maintaining healthy games. Endless support and praise will cultivate bad habits and stagnant creative direction, you have to trim the deadwood or the whole forest will burn in the end.
