The canals near the highways are not for directing water anywhere, they're just a byproduct of needing earth to raise the highway so it doesn't flood. The water table in South Florida is so high that pretty much any digging turns into a body of standing water. And then the alligators move in.
yeah if he knew that going in that the entire Miami Dade county is developed by South Florida Water Management around ensuring balance of not draining the Everglades and not having the city under water. Also putting fences along the highways in the everglades and having the Seminole Reservation and Hardrock Casino would have been a nice touch.
I do want this project to continue a little bit more, maybe build a Homestead area and maybe a bit of the keys. Also build some parks in the Everglades, that would be amazing!
Mentioned it in the last video. Florida has a lot of soft limestone that is near the surface in many areas. Those "Weird man-made lakes" were old quarries that were later infilled to turn into residential areas! The limestone was (and in some areas still) used for cement, as well as other uses! I remember doing mapping a while back for school, and one city in Florida was just COVERED in square lakes.
Ever consider changing the name of the project from "Miami" to "Miami-Dade county" I say this because you have built a lot more than just Miami, and many the name Miami-Dade county is used very prominently down there. Keep up the great work!
I think some shacks, dirt roads, etc. would look really, really cool in Everglades. Maybe you can build fishing industry too, it would generate some boats sailing around in the swamplands.
Some of the canals were built to drain swamp land so Miami could be built. Then with out the wetlands to slow down the flow of water they had to build other canals to control the flooding. I’m really enjoying the series. Its making me home sick.
Hi there! Another good job. I'd like to see you do a NASCAR track. Miami has traditionally had the season-ending race at Homestead. Would be a great addition for tthat one section you mentioned that you hadn't got an idea for. Thanks for reading. Peace.
Yes. The Homestead Miami Speedway or something similar would be an awesome addition. Not that it is relivent to City Skylines but sadly Homestead does not hold the season finale anymore as it has been moved to Phoenix.
I think I've mentioned it before but as a native Floridian I think you're really nailing the vibe. I just wanted to affirm the need for more of those subdivisions with the tile-roofed houses around the outskirts of the city. Connecting a few of those up to a 6 lane arterial and adding one or two big box stores with giant parking lots would really balance out the southern part of the map. As for that southern barrier island that could be a state park with a more natural beach ecosystem and a couple of small recreational amenities (parking lot, hiking trail, etc). All around great job!
I'm late to the series but I'm loving it so far. I live down here in Miami and you're doing a great job! You may not have enough space for both i95 and the turnpike but has anyone mentioned "Flagler's railway"? They're pretty much wouldn't be a Miami without it. It was the original rail line built in the 19th century to take people down to the Florida Keys. Mostly abandoned outside of the northern section that runs along Old Dixie Hwy(original surface road dating back to an old Indian trail), it's past its heyday has an industrial lifeline but is definitely as Miami as Winwood and Overtown. A train presence and an industrial railyard would be great.
You should move the Nuclear Station more towards the back. The area you were thinking about should be retirement homes, luxury homes, or where the Launchpads should be.
It really reminds me of how Ubisoft designs real life places like Chicago and San Francisco in their Watch Dogs franchise by taking the most significant and notable places and compressing the whole city way down, leaving only the basic shapes and landmarks but capturing the essence of the place at ground level. I could, and do, walk around those cities for hours in-game and I'd definitely be doing the same here.
I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, and verbatim at that, but the Everglades are just such a cool backdrop to the city. It looks way better now that it’s semi-detailed, though, and it really did just bring everything together. I think having boundaries when you’re playing is really helpful. Super excited for the upcoming stuff, now, too!
This really made my day bro I’m glade that you are continuing the series and if you haven’t already done a boardwalk and amusement park or go cart thing then I suggest doing something like that with the rest of the waterfront/ beach area. But up to you man.
Everglades are looking amazingly good and im really pumped for the space center but i really think you should consider putting it directly on the ocean coast instead just like Kennedy Space Center. Most large space centers (ok not those russia/kazakstan/china) are located on the coast and launches from these immediately go out over the ocean. This is generally alot safer for everyone. Dont want toxic rocket fuel landing in a residential area after a failed launch for example. Do with this information what you wish, Ill watch the episode anyway :)
This episode has given me so much help towards the marsh land I’m currently creating for my project Cumbria build, thank you so much dude, hope the little one is doing well 🙂
You should built the Florida keys in that island without anything 21:46 !!! It could be really cool to have your own version of Key Largo in the map too
As a South florida native... That doesn't really happen on the scale it used to. Peruvian and Columbian organizations now pay the Mexicans the bring drugs across the Texas borders. Where as in the 80's and early 90's they paid the Cubans to smuggle through Florida's water ways. A majority of Floridas drugs come from Mexico-Texas through the Atlanta and New Orleans drug hubs instead of straight through the Port of Miami. So drugs get stepped on a lot before they get here where as before (and still now to a far lesser degree) it was straight off the boat and pure as it gets.
I live about ut 45 mins from downtown Miami and I can say it looks really good. A suggestion is maybe some sort of airboat/swamp tour there's a place north of Miami called big cypress off I75 and there's alot of camping and nature board walks through the everglades around there you might want to add to the west side.
Also the canals were made by the corps of engineers to redirect the natural flow of the everglades water for farming its actually a very interesting story how they designed them.
I just flew over Cape Canaveral in flight simulator 2020. it was pretty awesome so it was cool seeing it in your video on Google Maps as well cuz I knew exactly where the places were and what was what. you truly need to check that game out I would like to see your reaction maybe stream it or something.
Hi Two Dollars, you could build a Manalapan and Palm Beach-like area in that beachfront left down in the map! With mansions in huge lots featuring piers, a few condos and marinas
There’s already a Air Force base and a abandoned nasa base plus a race track all right by the power plant in homestead that would look more cool then adding the kennedy space station
If you want a good suburb with the man-made lakes inspiration I think Weston, FL is a good place to check out. I was trying to build it before I got busy with other things

You should build a chirpex space station on one of the islands or you can create a swamp like in marble mountain or you can just build more suburbs or Disneyland
I think for that stretch of the island u don’t have an idea for u could build aventura mall which is Miami’s main main or do rt 1 south of the city because it has like this cool busway and I like u see how u add something like that for the city u could combine those two and extended the metro for the buses
You’re doing a city based in Florida. Florida has Disney World. It would be cool if u can recreate some sort of amusement park reflecting Disney. Even tho it is in Orlando lol
The Everglades really, really, *really* sold this project. Really gives it that google-maps authentic feel. I think the color/lighting choices and overall layout of the city more than compensate for the vanilla assets to make a realistic look work.
Near farm areas there are sometimes like little dirt runways, saw a lot of that when I visited Florida I don’t know if you plan to do that just thought it would be fun to throw that out there
So your talking a lot bout "amp" ans "swampy", but the everglades are no swamps! it's the largest and slowest river in the world. most of miami was built on it, until they protect them. 18:49 uhh... Why the name of that nuclear power plant is Turkey? We don't even have those in here? And also I think you should place the university a bit closer to the city.
@@KiroWhitefin lol funny, that name has an interesting story actually. So English people thought that turkey (animal one) was coming from Turkey (country). But in Turkish turkey (animal) means hindi, so Turkish people were thinking that hindi was coming from India. And, indian people named the animal something like peru, or peri (I don't remember exactly) because they were thinking that it was coming from Peru

I remember him saying at first, "no need for 81 tiles, I don't think I'm gonna build there"
You could build in the southern island something like the Florida keys, with some residential communities all connected by the Overseas Hwy
Excellent idea. Everybody Like this one please so 220 sees it

"Everglades" is a ridiculously epic name that wouldn't be out of place in a high fantasy setting.
