This was the hauntingly beautiful piece of music that was played at the end of the Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Absolutely beautiful! Magnificently played. Well done!
It was also played earlier at the end of the funeral of her husband Prince Albert. Absolutely stunning. In the end they decided to leave this earthly realm in the same way, together.
That is because it is built on a foundation of 16' pipes rather than the more usual 8' foundation, which is piano range; 16' an octave lower. If you can locate it, listen to the Chandos CD of Piet Kee playing here, especially the Walther partita.
As this was one of the first organs to have a separate console, while still being a tracker-action, the trackers ran under the floor. I read once that it wasn't fully sorted out until about 25 years ago!
True. Gabler was not in the class of the Schnitgers, Silberman and Batz dynasties, and he couldn't finish the Weingarten project, to the chagrin of the church authorities, who had to call in other builders to sort out the problems - which were on-going for some time to come.
Lovely but apparently the builder botched the 32ft Bombard reed and so had to convert it into another 16ft. A thunderous 32 in that acoustic would have been amazing but it still sounds amazing.
Changing registration wouldn’t be period-accurate. First of all they didn’t have pistons then and the instruments were tuned in unequal temperaments, so the change of key would be enough to satisfy rather than changing dynamics. With equal temperament that effect was lost. Changing registration or manuals or both when moving onto the fugue would be perfectly accurate, depending on how the fugue was intended to sound dynamically in the first place.

This organ... such an amazing sound! Wish I can pay him a visit someday!
If you're going to big Bach up, THIS is how you do it!! Just great!
Holy shit that organ sounds so powerful

Magnifique , grandiose musique intemporelle
Hear the power of this organ's foundation of 16ft ranks rather than the more usual 8ft, same pitch as a piano.
MR. KOOPMAN THE BEST BOROQUE ORGANIST!!!
NUR PERFEKT!!!
Do not say that. Mnr Koopman is ONE of the best of many great organists.
What an amazing sound! 6666 pipes....that's one big devil! The 'roar' is incredible. Koopman really nails it here. Blessings, John

Beautiful! Makes me cry every time!
One of the best!

The Sixtine Chapel of the organs
Beautiful.
JS Bach! The Gabler organ... wow

+ElfDoc
Of course not
Dakest indeed
Reminds me a bit to the Kyrie Eleisen of the Mass in B minor. Pretty fine.
Simplemente magnífico 🙂🙂🙂😌😌😌
What power and playing !

Keys are all Hard in Full Organ

6000 pipe organ
He never changes keyboard ? Or registration ? Quite monotonous like that. And I find the Fuga quite slow and heavy.
There is a section in the fugue where he changes manuals, I think. A bit of an 'echo' effect somewhere.
