This is what happens when you burn your bridges; you can't go back across! Stewart said Caitlin needed a ring to be in the GOAT conversation, and while Collier spoke good of Clark, she didn't encourage the woman of the league to stop attacking Clark! What REAL incentive would Caitlin have to play for them? NONE! Collier and Stewart can thank DT for that!

To add about Collier, BTW I'm a Collier fan also, but she did allow Reese to extend her streak against her at the end of their game with her, with a unnecessary foul at the end of game so she could shoot and get her 10th point. It was unnecessary and on purpose if u look back at it.

He messed up. UCONN would have won at least 2 championships they missed out on if CC was on his team. And she would have been in the Olympics this year.
But here’s the deal. If that happened, she wouldn’t be the Caitlin Clark we all know. The path she has taken is what has made her so great. It’s hard to explain but we are blessed that she’s in the league.

I’m glad Caitlin Clark stayed in Iowa and played for Coach Bluder at Iowa - who I knew personally from her coaching at Drake University - Iowa got the best of that deal - and I was sad to see Coach B leave Drake but everyone who knew Coach B, knew in our hearts knew she was destined to do bigger and better things in Coaching and in Life. Second, CC said she was playing basketball and going to support the WNBA and bring a Championship to Indiana Fever. Third, Caitlin is practicing new skills and getting ready for next season. Lastly, Caitlin is about growing women’s sports and inspiring people to go for their dreams, especially children. CC is a true competitor and a great human. 🌺🌺🩷🩷

$1 -2M is peanuts vs what her brand is worth. And her life and balance is even more important and being around people who appreciate and love her - playing golf (something she also loves and wants to master) and meeting stars and fans from other leagues gives her joy and also expands her reach and network. Good for her soul and also good for her future. Just shows how open she is to learning, expanding her interests and growing women’s sports in general. She is so much bigger than some start up gimmick league like Unrivaled and bigger than the WNBA. She is doing what comes natural to her (learning and growing) and in the process bringing enjoyment to so many more people than she is playing in the WNBA.

It's amazing to think that she's just 22 years old with a mind of a 30-year old making wise decisions (I'm sure her support group has contributed to this and she's listened to them). She's caring, considerate, appreciates what she has and is taking care of her gifts, and is happy to be with her fans, especially the young girls who adore her. My hope is that one day I can see her play. *** Also, if she had gone to Unrivaled, I would be afraid for her physical wellbeing. *** Kudos to her parents for bringing her up as a lovely human being. It seems too many people are not well rounded. They limit themselves by only caring about one thing. Clark is a multi faceted human being, which results in her having many opportunities to find joy. It is easy for me to see why she seems to be so happy, and is able to thrive in a high pressure environment. She has lost herself in the service of others, while striving to be the best she can be across as many different endeavors as possible.

Take Away # 2 - Darned if you do, Darned if you don't... So she just makes the choice better for her. She spent all season biting her tongue as these women targeted her up and down the court, never talking bad EVEN about those attacking her... doesn't mean she has to do anything to HELP them - they made their beds. As far as 'pretending' Caitlin was in the league - they tried to use the WNBA tactic of using CC22 to generate heat they could use to shine their other players but she just said... "I'll Pass, thanks." Being in Unrivalled was NEVER her dream like being the WNBA, why would she put up with those players ISH if she doesn't have to?

Tbh, the biggest issue with Unrivaled is the fact it is not real basketball. It's more like pick-up basketball at the local YMCA with a Reality TV twist. They were more interested in creating a financial opportunity/alternative to going overseas (which is commendable btw) but never fleshed out the basketball component. Everything from the way they announced the players, teams, coaches, vague information on venue(s).. It all seems very haphazard and amateurish..

    1. She may have obligations to her sponsors (personal appearances, make commercials, have meetings with Nike).
    2. She may have speaking engagements lined up. We already know about her appearances with Letterman and Oprah.
    3. She may want to participate in the 3 point shooting competition during NBA all-star weekend with Sabrina Ionescu, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson. The event is in mid-February, right in the middle of the Unrivaled season. If that's the case, she will certainly want to take time to practice shooting in the format used by the competition. She won't want to show up unprepared.
    4. She may want to go to Iowa basketball games. Maybe even do some practices with the Iowa team just for the fun of connecting with former teammates.
    5. Hang out with her boyfriend.

Unrivaled will be okay without Caitlin.
Remember, the growth of the WNBA this year, according to the Wall Street Journal, was due to A'ja Wilson and Angel Reese.
Cathy Engelbutt told us the WNBA's growth this year was due to "this rookie class", not just Caitlin. Unrivaled has 4 of the rookie class vaunted by Engelbutt in it, they'll be fine.
Angel Reese assured all of us that the growth of the WNBA this year "was not just one person, it was ME TOO!!!" Her star power will bring stellar TV ratings for TNT.
On social media frequented by old guard WNBA fans and Angel Reese fans, we are repeatedly told that they didn't want Caitlin in Unrivaled because they were tired of us Caitlin fans invading their social media sanctuary to talk about our favorite player. So it's cool - we all got what we wanted, Caitlin not playing in this league. There are enormous numbers of them to buy merchandise and watch games, they'll support the league financially without needing us.
And yes, this entire comment is sarcasm.

What do the following people have in common?
    Angel Reese
    Dijonais Carrington
    Breanna Stewart
    Chelsea Grey
    Brittney Griner
    Alyssa Thomas
Answer: all of them hate Caitlin's fans.
The Olympians reportedly pushed to keep Caitlin off the Olympics team because they were afraid her fans would make a lot of distraction if Caitlin didn't get as many minutes as we wanted her to.
All the others accused Caitlin's fans of being toxic, racist, nasty.
Griner is a twofer, falling into both categories.
Why does Unrivaled want Caitlin to play? Because they need revenue. They need TV viewership revenue most of all, but also merchandise sales and ticket sales. Where does this revenue come from? Fans. Whose fans? Fans of the people playing. Who has the most fans? Caitlin. Whose fans have been viciously attacked and accused of bad behavior? Caitlin's.
1 out of 6 of the players, including one of the co-founders, have disparaged Caitlin's fan base. So why, exactly, should we NOW help them get paid?

Same with Unrivaled, she is a true sports player, she knows her body, she knows what she needs to excel and was not being banged around on the BB court by a bunch of envious petty players. She wants to come back next season and reach new heights in the WNBA.. She knows what is best for her.

I agree with you. The "Unrivaled" League was supposed to be a place where the players can go to earn more money so they don't have to go overseas. Well, if that's what it is, then Caitlin Clark doesn't need to play in "Unrivaled," because she clearly doesn't need the money. You're right, they treated her like crap all year and now they want her presence to make them look good. Nope. I'm glad Caitlin didn't join, because there are no benefits for her playing. I'm so looking forward to watching CC and the Indiana Fever in the 2025 season. I hear MVPs and championships. Let's GOOOOOOOO!

It's funny to me. The next NBA player we can compare Caitlin Clark to will be Junior Bridgeman.
While the ladies in the WNBA and Unrivaled continue to complain about 'fair share' and disproportionate wages, Clark will be making millions quietly by just doing.
In time she will have made many times more through work than she will through basketball and endorsements.
Unrivaled will be insignificant in hindsight.

  • @MargueriteFahey
    @MargueriteFahey День тому +6

I think she is getting more money from the NBA and from WNBA owners (many who have ties to the NBA) to NOT play in Unrivaled and perform in a shooting exhibition at the NBA All-Star game instead. Unrivaled is a competitor to the WNBA long-term and it is in the best interests of those who are invested in the W to squash this threat before it has a chance to bloom. The fact that she gets to dismiss those WNBA players who put her down and knocked her down is just an added bonus.

    • @gillmartin6691
      @gillmartin6691 День тому +2

I don’t know if they’re paying her not to play, but I agree that it means Unrivaled will be less successful and hurts the players association ability to use the threat of it being an option to replace the WNBA in the upcoming CBA negotiations.

Spot on Adrienne, some of the same girls that want to hurt her, now want to use her for Unrivaled. Even if she did play and the league did not succeed they would have blamed her as well, resulting in more players wanting to hurt her in the upcoming WNBA season. I doubt that is what she was thinking because she does like a variety of sports in her life.

CC did the right thing by staying away from Unrivaled. Better for her health and image, they didn't want CC they wanted her name. That's a big FU to the haters playing in that league which will go no where. Gino as part owner doesn't deserve to be amongst greatness!

I agree with all 4 of your takes, Ms. Ross. I don't care much for Stewart but I kind of like what I've seen from Collier. That being said, as 2 of the biggest stars and veterans in the WNBA, they failed to give CC her flowers all season. Especially Stewart and her ridiculous opinion on ''championships.'' I think it was terribly short-sighted of them to not call out the terrible treatment of Caitlin by the WNBA players, coaches, and league, in general. Perhaps if they would have stood up for CC, even if it was only for their own self interests in relation to Unraveled, CC might have given their league a shot. At the end of the season, Napheesa did praise CC's effect on league attendance, etc, but....too little, too late. You can't reap what you did not sow.

Spot on. The best businesses diversify. I think she is going to be better off having a physical and mental break away from basketball. I'm sure she's still getting some hours in here and there but giving talks, golf pro-am's, golf caddying and looking to get involved in a Womens Soccer League are all giving her different mental stimulation away from basketball. Next season though, who knows? She'll not have come straight from a College season. Hopefully she'll not get the same hassle next season. Maybe she'll play. I kind-of feel she'll be invited to the Pro-Am again next year, and probabaly years to come, so Unrivaled may have to do without her. She's not doing it for the money and she doesn't need the money.

I don't want to have to endure that anymore. I'm PRAYING the league has learned their lesson & will do right by her next season. I would like to see the Commissioner & referee department ALL REPLACED with respectable, honest, and qualified people to allow dignity to emerge within the NEW WNBA!!! Also, drop NIKE for their obvious disrespect to the Caitlin Clark Effect/Fans. MAKE 🏀 GREAT AGAIN!!!

If she doesn’t want to make 5 million dollars to play 10 games in ice cubes 3 vs 3 league and wasn’t even mad at the players there. Why would she want to take 1 million from the same players that attacked her physically and mentally plus calling out her fans for no other reason than to try and make it look like their bad fans.

I not for men and women competing in any men vs woman competition, I don’t believe it’s a fair showing of a woman’s skill and ability. I was just pointing out that one the money second, the people involved and lastly who’s done or haven’t done attacks on her. Plus the 3 vs 3 is a different game. If they really wanted to have a place to help women from going overseas it should have been the same style of game with time between the games for the women to rest and train between seasons. 3 vs 3 is just a lot of people trying to be flashy in my opinion. I don’t see it as a true basketball game.
