Just a comment on Ushka and how AWESOME she is. Over a year ago, Ushka really helped me out when I was in a bind - my cat was coming in from overseas and there were complications, so my poor cat was stuck in Germany for three days, and me... stuck in Tokyo an extra three days I hadn't planned for. Ushka allowed me to stay at her air bnb in what was a very low point for me, and it's honestly one of the biggest acts of kindness I will never forget. Much to love to Ushka, and of course to you Sharla! You both always brighten my day!
@@sharlainjapan Thank goodness you didn't have to have the whole place condemned! That damage was painful to watch, and all those termite and water-damaged areas made me shudder.
@@sharlainjapan That made me LOL xD I'm trying to listen to what he said so I can understand "in-practice" use of japanese, but I can't for the life of me hear the that he is saying.. he's like やばい。やばい。やばい どこ(?)じゃなくて。すごい。すごい???? and then it all turns fuzzy o((>ω< ))o learning japanese is difficult! I'm sorry to hear about the termites, glad to hear they haven't ruined the structural stability! I hope your day today is better, a video from you always makes mine better so I hope I can share that with you
Thats why I do not like wood as building material, it is too fragile and short lived! On the other hand in an earthquake prone country like japan probably wood is the best option!
The blossom you saw is a Japanese Ornamental Quince. Quince are closer to apples and pears and no plums at all. The ornamental ones don’t produce fruit though.
Thanks for formally introducing Ushka! I absolutely love this vlog style. I love the 'day in the life' type. They are really chill and you take the time to notice and point out little things that bring you joy. This in turn helps me notice and be grateful for the little things as well. I'm now finishing up a 7 month stay in Japan, heading back home to Germany in 2 weeks and just wanted to say thank you for your videos over the years that let me experience Japan even before moving here myself. The (re-)introduction of Usher reminded me to comment this as I remember the Vlog where you stayed at her first AirBnB very well! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see the finished house!

I'm looking really forward to more updates on how they build the bath, I want to put a japanese ofuro in my home in the united states for my mother. she's older now and it's getting harder for her to shower standing up. having an adjustable shower head so she can sit and then take a soak in a deeper yet shorter bath would be really good for her. the automatic reheat functions for some of these baths are pretty amazing these days.
That orange bloomed plant is Chaenomeles in autumn it has like small apple like fruits that taste like lemon. These plants are related to the quince but smaller and bit more softer.
Living where I do termites are a constant issue so I feel your pain. Here is hoping they have found the whole nest and removed all if the little buggars. Oh the joys of renovation especially in an older property, always I find they are such a generous thing to restore, always prepared to give you an unexpected gift😂😂loving the vibe between you two, it is fun to watch.

It was so nice to finally learn more about Ushka!!! I think you guys make a great team! So I was just in Japan for a vacation (first time going) a few weeks ago Feb 2-17 and dang I just missed the Family Mart Collab. I also went to LOFT and it was so cool to see you guys go there because I was like "I WAS THERE JUST A WEEK AGO" and that felt really cool. Best of luck on the house! I hope I get to stay in it next time I book a trip to Japan.
I always love Ushka when I started watching your vlog. She has a positive vibes and love cats!!! I really wish want to meet you guys when I go to Japan! ♥
I hear your pain - discovered termites in our house not long after buying it. Lost a box of my fav paperbacks to the little buggers, but managed to minimize the damage! At least you found it now, before it took the house out! Now off to shop at your website! :D
Termites are a nightmare to get rid of in Australia. If you find them in your home, you have to get a company in to find out the extent of the damage, then you have to stop construction or renovation, treat it, call the people back in to see if it worked, do the preventative annual spraying and then get back to renovation/construction. That, all together, could take a month.
I laughed so hard when @sharlainjapan pointed at where the termite were and the camera got blurry for a moment. It was like entering Sharla vision. haha. Home looks great! Love the choices for the bathroom.
Termites are a nightmare to deal with when you buy a new home. I really feel for you guys. I’m so thankful we had an inspector look at our house before we bought it because he found termites as well and the sellers had to foot the bill.
12:08 this looks a lot more like a flowering quince to me than a plum. I used to have one that looked just like this, only shorter, right beside my back door.
I've been watching your videos for years, and this might be my first comment. Just wanted to say I always look forward to your videos, they are light and joyful and really well made. Please update more often haha ! All the best Sharla and hope to see you one day in Japan (I come for work twice a year maybe ill try to stay at the inn next time !)
Aww. Sorry to hear about the termite and water damage. That's certainly a common thing in older homes, as they simply didn't employ any sort of vapour-barriers. I wouldn't be surprised if your builders have to rent some hydraulic jacks for a few days while they work on fitting the new supports. You may also, if there's any room left in the budget, carefully inspect the flashing around the exterior of the windows to ensure something like this isn't happening to the exposed south and west sides of the house. Good luck~! We're cheering for you~!!
Tough luck on the termites, that's frustrating. But, it seems like you didn't lose your head over and moved forward quickly. That's the only thing you can do if workers are on-site, just make the best decision you can and get everyone back to work. Thanks for making these renovation videos. I enjoy watching the process.

The cat chilling at the station postcard is part of a seasonal series by that artist. Loft and other stationary stores seem to carry new ones every few months. So funny, I just happened to be looking at your web store just before you were uploading. You stated that you were having problems because the site had been moved. I thought that it was my fault until I realized that this was recorded sometime before you uploaded the video. Had me feeling bad for a minute. By the way, you guys are a great match, I really enjoy your content videos!

I hope you put a list of food recommendations around the new place for guests when it opens. Cuz that sushi looks delicious but no way I’d remember that place by the next time I’d visit

Thanks for the re-cap on how you met - and became such an awesome team.
i love the fact when it got stressful you ladies went out for sushi! nice!
The first video l watched was when you bought your first home renovation project together. Make sure you Osmo the new wood replacements from termites.
Fun video, thanks for introducing Ushka to us. Love all the stories and things in Japan they are so Lovely ❤
Aww your friendship warms my heart❤
So funny, I just happened to be looking at your web store just before you were uploading. You stated that you were having problems because the site had been moved. I thought that it was my fault until I realized that this was recorded sometime before you uploaded the video. Had me feeling bad for a minute. By the way, you guys are a great match, I really enjoy your content videos!
The red blossom is Japanese quince, they really are so gorgeous. We have them here in the UK too
Great video! What I really admire about you both is how you deal with the issues that arise out of the blue, you somehow manage to power through them and continue with the rest of your plans. If it was me, I'd probably get stuck for the rest of the day 😅 I hope the termites and website problems get resolved soon 🙏🏻
I always get so jealous seeing all the brilliant food and stationary that Japan has!!
I hope you put a list of food recommendations around the new place for guests when it opens. Cuz that sushi looks delicious but no way I’d remember that place by the next time I’d visit
Oh definitely! We’re already putting together a recommendations list😍
Renovating sure has its ups and downs but I’m sure you’ll be very happy with the end product. May i also add, Ushka, is friendship goals!
Yes🤞🏻🩷🩷 Without the challenges it’d be kinda boring anyways!
I know in the states if people sell you a house and the seller knows they have termites but didn't list them, you can be subjected to getting pay back for it.
This is so exciting! 🎉 can’t wait to see the end result….and Chris’ commentary 😆
Thank you for the shoutout during the Ushka Q&A, Sharla!!! Love your videos!!!
