Takara is like an uncle that did his thing back in the day, but still tries to mix in with the younger crowd now and would probably slip something in your drink.
I’ve seen a few reviews on the Takara Trailbreaker and I think yours is the most honest pointing out the good and bad. The vehicle mode is great and appreciate all the options they give you. Unfortunately the robot mode has too many compromises for me. Lower body looks good but why isn’t he fully painted? The upper body is a mess to me which is unfortunate because the articulation is excellent. I love the FT Trailbreaker and this review made me feel even better with my decision. Very much looking forward to how the versus will go because they both do things better than the other.
I don't have any Trailbreakers (not one of my favorites), but if I were a fan I would definitely go with the FansToys. The gaps through the side are ridiculous. That is a Wind Tunnel. Imagine if these were Lifesize, kids could climb through that hole like it was a jungle gym! I loved the transformation of the legs, that was really cool and intuitive. I like good articulation, but not at the price of the enormous gaps on the side. It is too wide front to back in the chest too. I am really looking forward to the VS for this one. I like what you pointed out, good and bad. Nice review.
Nice review. Received my copy too. As I previously owned the FT version, I prefer the TT for it's better articulation esp the shoulder. Believe you did not show there is another joint at the top of the shoulder which further enhances the articulation upward. Its very tough joint to loosen it though.
I think this figure looks good overall. One complaint I have is that Trailbreaker needed to have a bigger belly. I feel like Earthrise Trailbreaker pulled that off a bit better. But overall, this looks to be solid Trailbreaker for those who would want an official MP version of the character in their collection. Amazing review as always, TM! Keep up the great work!
People talk about figures looking "mature" and having heroic proportions (looking directly at Skullface), and I usually don't think that figures should be completely toon, but we have to embrace the fact that some characters have wonkier proportions.
It's hypertoon. Bot looks funky because the toon model looked that way. It fits the character of Autobots that are no militairy warrior bots but had to become heroic being dragged into war.
I think I prefer the TT over FT. Has more character and life to it, warts and all. FansToys to me always look like G1 through an Instagram filter that removes any charm or joy, which is fine if you just want to stick it in bot mode in an a-stance and leave it on the shelf forever which lets face it is what most of us do anyway : D
That's something I've never really liked about third party, they always think that faces show all the character, and they don't add any character to the rest of the sculpt.
Had him for a while now and just finally transformed him. For the most part, it's a fairly straightforward transformation. I did have difficulties with sliding his torso into place as mine was so tight it was very hard. I basically transformed every part of him before his torso finally slid into place. The other piece that I had trouble with was my backpack didn't want to clip into place but, with a little finagling, it finally clipped into place and stayed. Overall, I like it, especially the alt mode. With this said, I also rebought Outrider as this TT offering feels very cheap and flimsy like if I just touched it wrong and it'll break. I'll keep him in alt mode and Outrider in robot.
Thanks for showing this figure... honestly, he looks better than the 1st pics depicted..f.y.i he has another joint in the arm to allow it to go str8 up from the side...
I don't know for sure if it would actually fit or not, but I feel like if they had put the doors on a slider in instead of a rotation in to have the solid black of the door on the side of the bot instead of the blue windows it would have helped quite a bit with it's looks.
I like it, the transformation was a breeze, and the paint looks good. If you can get over the dadbod, the articulation is the winner for me over the FansToys. My only issue has been that I got paint chipping on one of the knees 😢
A bit scared for your review as I just ordered mine but can’t wait to hear your thoughts!😂and yeah alt mode is definitely looking small. And I’m sure you’ve seen by now but there’s a second hinge on the shoulder for all the way up thats kinda stuck. Edit:ahhhh nice, was a recommend
I'm really thinking about getting back into the MP game, and I might have to get this. I have the X-Transbots toon version, but I honestly might replace it with this. It's a nice mix of the toon and more realistic looks, imo. I just don't know if it's financially worth it to get back into this game, haha.
a parabolic antenna is not a satellite dish. A satellite dish specifically receives signals from satellites whereas parabolic dishes don't necessarily have to. It's an all squares are rectangels but not all rectangles are squares situation.
Been looking forward to this. I know TMan really likes the articulation, but I am not a fan of sacrificing sculpt for articulation. I still think Fans Toys kills this in bot mode. The alt mode does look better with the Takara, so I may get the KO for alt mode.
The side windows are supposed to be at an angle in bot mode, not straight. There's a little slot for them. I think the backpack is slightly off which might be the result of that.
Hmm.. Not a panel former. Check. Sold. To be fair I have him pre-ordered and ready to ship anyways, but I'm thankful to see they are continuing the Skids trend with a simple transformation.
Takara Trailbreaker is just good enough for me to get. Not every version has to be Fans Toys. I kept my TE Mirage and sold Phantasm. I sold X'transbots Hoist for Fans Toys. It's whatever you think looks good.
Thanks for the Comprehensive review, I will Never buy this but I have to give it some credit. It outdoes FTs and XTB on Toon and Alt mode gives XTB a run for its $. Without the Premium look and feel though, it's a Fail. If you can get this at $150 and you don't like the FTs too Machine in Black look, You Win...
I am not a slave to the cartoon. I am still in the camp of having them look a bit more mature then the cartoon. I think the grey toon grill makes it look cheap, as does the grey holding the chromed weapons. I'm not a fan of the proportions from the front, and the side is pretty bad, as is his blaster hand. Such an odd choice with not chroming it all, and the odd wobble it has. So glad I have the Fans Toys. Thanks for the quick turn-around for this video Sony. I always appreciate your opinion.
Not super impressed with this guy. Takara/Hasbro are getting a little disappointing in their MP line overall and really fell behind the 3rd party companies. This figure looks more like a suped-up deluxe figure rather than a true masterpiece. But thank you for reviewing! I'm sticking with my ocular max Trailbreaker ❤. I'll check out the compare vid to FT soon
Takara is basically like a KO company for transformers nowadays. FT is the leader….and XTB may even be better on some figures. MMC is better than Takara as well in many instances.
I like the one thats die cast the best... forgot from wich company that one was. Just don't like this Kindergarten cartoon look, especially for the vehicle modes
Takara is like an uncle that did his thing back in the day, but still tries to mix in with the younger crowd now and would probably slip something in your drink.
Lol

Truth!!!
Great review and I agree the alt mode is what really shines….looking forward to the VS. 👍🏽
Thanks

Thanks man, it means a lot that you would take the time to point out what you liked about the video

@@TMReviews you keep making the great videos and I will definitely keep watching. Ha ha!
VS probably tomorrow...

Thanks, I didn't show that joint because it's stuck, I tried to free it and it felt like it was breaking, not worth it to me

Another example is huffer, he needs to be wonky to look right
Damn TMR you are cranking out the vids today!!!
Yep lol
They should have kelp the camper shell as one solid piece. He is a nice looking figure but I do agree with you with the sculp..

What a great line. I was able to score him from a Japanese seller in eBay for $130 shipped.
Cool

Thanks, I am aware of the other joint but mine is stuck and I tried forcing it and it feels like it will break so to me it's not there at all
good video review! I'll rewatch and come up with something witty later
Thanks Mike! I look forward to the wit

Yep, it's fine, but it's no fanstoys 🤣
@@TMReviews 🤣🤣👍
Takara is almost certainly going to make a Hoist out of this, I wouldn't be surprised

I like a lot the Transformation on this figure. The bot design is not my favorite, but is a fun Transformer. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching

Thanks, there is articulation hidden in the arms that I couldn't unlock, it's stuck so to me it doesn't exist
Great video . Takaratomy does a nice alt mode
Thanks
The side windows are supposed to be at an angle in bot mode, not straight. There's a little slot for them. I think the backpack is slightly off which might be the result of that.
During the review I said I moved it straight because I prefer it that way, but it was angled initially
Hmm.. Not a panel former. Check. Sold. To be fair I have him pre-ordered and ready to ship anyways, but I'm thankful to see they are continuing the Skids trend with a simple transformation.
Which one is more fun to transform, this or Fans Toys?
Very close,.hard to say, personal preference is FansToys because of the materials, watch my VS video tomorrow for more details
NIce review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching
Aegis FTW! Espeically when acquired for a great price.
Takara Trailbreaker is just good enough for me to get. Not every version has to be Fans Toys. I kept my TE Mirage and sold Phantasm. I sold X'transbots Hoist for Fans Toys. It's whatever you think looks good.
Overall good figure love the grey paint. Great Review ✨️😃
Thanks G, yep this is a fun one

Thanks for watching, and I agree with the premium comment, but that is my personal preference
TMan was here
Yay
Does it have any diecast?
None
14:34 My fifth grade self laughed so hard at that point of articulation man
Lol

It looks goofy as hell to me. Still better than what I was expecting based on the photos.

Fanstoys wins again not a surprise. I do like the alt mode of the TT so I’m keeping it
Takara is basically like a KO company for transformers nowadays. FT is the leader….and XTB may even be better on some figures. MMC is better than Takara as well in many instances.
I like the one thats die cast the best... forgot from wich company that one was. Just don't like this Kindergarten cartoon look, especially for the vehicle modes
fanstoys has the better sculpt for sure
I feel bad for Takara. They're the last to finish this race, and then arrive with the weakest of the 4 available options and also the most expensive.
I’m glad I went with FT😅
Sorry but FT Outrider annihilated TT Trailbreaker.... TT doesn't have anything for compete with 3P companies.
Fanstoys beat mp ass , no question
FansToys is soo much better
Objectively Fanstoys just looks better IMO, that said it's great to have choices.
Imagine paying over $60 for this 🤮
Lol, totally
It sounds cheap.
