I had one of these. It had a four speed, push button automatic with a stock 325 Hemi, and a dual quad Holley on top. It hauled!
No 331cu hemi?
@@jaymartell2967 Not in this one. It was a 1957 Dodge DeSoto. In Nevada some places had 100mph, and a few places had unlimited speed. The speedometer showed 140. It was pegged. It costs $7.00 to fill the tank.
@@JumperSig Hmm so it kept the push button controls but had a newer 4 speed auto?
@@redtra236 What are you saying?
@@JumperSig 4 speed automatic wasn't available on these cars it was either 2 or 3, so I assumed it wasn't the stock transmission but had somehow kept the push button controls as you said which is interesting I don't think I've seen that before. Usually they have a separate gearshift added.
The Firesweep was the entry level model from DeSoto. It was built on the Dodge platform. The higher-priced DeSoto lines shared the Chrysler platform. The push-button Torqueflite was a 3 speed automatic. Valiant was introduced in fall of '59 as a 1960 model. It was a compact car, much smaller than any DeSoto. Plymouth in the late '50s used the shortest wheelbase platform. Dodge was a few inches longer and Chrysler was a few inches longer than Dodge. Imperial was king with a 129 inch wheelbase. Poor DeSoto had to scrape by with Dodge and Chrysler platforms.
Great car
If I owned this DeSoto I'd detail it and drive it just the way it is, and put a set of period correct full wheel covers back on it,or some decent Mopar wheels. Its a cool car.Its for sale, how much much?
SOLD @ asking price $5000-
Not on the valiant platform...this was still the standard body on frame platform shared with all mopar except Imperial for 1957-59...Valient was the new compact unibody for 1960. Mopar pulled a fast one for 1957...all new styling and suspension for all lines, but they were basically all the same car, other than the Imp.
Thanks for the info!
didn't have FM in 57😂
AM Radio, was actually very active in those days. We had a lot of fun with it.
No ss
I think Chrysler was the first company to use transistor radios around this time wasnt it. No warming up the radio in this one hopefully even if its only AM lol
