I had one of these mechanical digital watches given to me as a school boy in secondary school in the mid 1970s. Mine only displayed hour and minutes. It kept good time. Loved the watch but can't remember how l lost it some time in the late 70s. Nostalgia watching this video.
The gold one reminds me of 80s/90s childrens park swingsets in Australia... they were that shape with a face painted on. The LOV reminds me of a knights visor. The Yakota is my favourite, I would wear that. And a solid nice looking movement. Could imagine people sniffin coke off that big automatic on a disco floor
Crikey Mike, you're the only person I've found on UA-cam whose watch collection I actually envy. Not in a green-eyed sort of way, in fact it's great to know that they've found their way to such a good home. These are such cheerfully loopy designs, my favourites being the Yakota with its Seiko-ish case and of course the LOV. That one has a sort of War of the Worlds vibe to my eyes - we are of course talking the 1953 film, not the one with Tom Cruise in it. Incidentally, Lucerne seemed to have a lot of out there ideas, even by the standards of the time. I have one with a Swiss cross moulded into the underside of the crystal, which is deeply distracting and made it a must have.
Thanks, glad you can appreciate these as they are not to everyone’s taste and that is why I buy them so to preserve. You never know one day they might become fashionable again 😂
I have a lot of love for the old Jump Hour watches, been meaning to get my hands on one, every time I see one it takes me back to the Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet era when I was a very young lad, I think we're about the same vintage Mike, late 40's so we had all the best shows to watch as kids :-) Outstanding collection there buddy!
Lazy Dave so many mad ones of these on the internet and like you say all very thunderbirds, Buck Rogers , Space 1999 etc they certainly don’t make tv show or watches like this any more! Thanks for your comment
Always knew these beauties must have existed, and now i have seen them myself! Thank you for such an amazing review of these retro watches! Now i also know what these are called!!!!
I quoted two old jump hour watches, one a Sindaco and the other an American Heritage. Both has balance issues, hair spring damage. I was able to find replacement NOS movement for one and still hunting for parts for the other. Yours are so unique and fun!
I have a 70s Benrus with an F.E. cal.140 runs pretty good but im hoping to have it serviced soon, love these vintage jump hours amazing collection thanks for sharing now i want one lol.
Hello Amazing jump hour collection. I am starting in the world of watches and buy a Lucerna digital similar to yours. Can you make a video tutorial for the service of this watch? It would be very helpful because mine only works for a couple of hours and stops
Love this video, Mike. I've come to like jump-hour watches (probably because I came of age in the '70s!) and am shopping for one. I'd probably get one with a decent complement of jewels (most of these types have no more than one), but who knows what will strike me when it's time.
+Ian Mansfield thanks . There are a few jump hours with this type of display , most famous would be the Sicura which has a much more angled case. I prefer the Sorna . Glad you like it .
Amazing jump hour collection Mike, I have three Sicuras and two technos in my jump hour collection and they are really cool. They added that 70s groovy style.
I congratulate you! .. I also like these types of watches because they present the time differently .. even some models go on sale but very expensive because they are of recognized brands are of exceptional quality and mechanics ... I came to possess a Lucerne and a Sicura but after the time and with the arrival of the digital were lost in the dirt ... hurts! ..
Great selection! I am currently wearing my Buler Super Nova right now. I briefly owned one exactly the same except branded Edward Buler, I had to return it as it was faulty, then bought the one i've got now.
Really love these watches. So cool. I would wear any one of those watches with pride. They are a great conversation piece, They seem so fun. I really love the case and bracelet on the Yakota, I'd say that was my favorite.
+Sam D. Thanks for commenting! Some I don’t wear in part because I have so many watches with no order to how I wear them other than my mood in the morning. Yakota is definitely a nice cool one which is probably the easiest to wear.
I bought 2 back in April an Ingersoll (looks like the 2nd from the left in your line) and an Electronvolt. The Ingersoll needed a service and I put a new elastic metal bracelet on. Looks cool now.
I had the identical lucerne watch about 30 years ago the gold planting had worn so I decided to take it down to the base metal which I think was brass using no tools only various grades of fine sand paper and brasso took me many weeks but eventually the watch looked surprisingly as good as new lovely watch thanks for bringing back memories 🙂
That is a very nice 👍 jump hour watch. I would have thought 💭 this had today’s modern movement. It looks more like 👍 a trade between yesteryear’s electric watches, and also, yesteryear’s spring wound watches. This is an electric watch, but in jump hour style. Your friend, Jeff.
I have that exact same Buler watch but in blue, my mom gave it to me. She said that's the watch she wore as a teenager. The hour hand is stuck thoug. I hope it's not too expensive to repair that.
That's amazing! I thought these watches were always quartz!! I am a traditional watch collector myself so I ve learnt a bit today!. Thanks Mike. Adrian🍀🍀
Fascinating,I have a Lucerne but it has a more conventional case design,I bought it around 1990 in Malta as NOS,its on leather but the original bracelet was nasty and I changed it.I only bought it as a curio and have never really worn it but it still works fine and keeps ok time.
For me, one of the most unique models of watches that have been produced ... always and wanted to have one but unfortunately not achieved ... some day! .. hehehe! ... I congratulate you for your collection and for how well maintained you keep it.
Daniel Berroteran thank you Sir. I am sure you will find one, they are always on eBay and due to not so much interest they generally are affordable prices .
Loved the video. I recently got in to collecting watches after picking up a Jardur and JLC Memovox at an estate sale both for $10 usd. I recently started looking on eBay at vintage watches and immediately liked the look of the jump hour style. I just picked up a watch that I am having trouble researching thought maybe you knew more info on. It’s a Le Courier 17j digital Swiss made with the marking of B&M in on the inside case. Beautiful gold on gold tone with red on white hour and black on white minutes.
Looks like a solid watch, but I would recommend looking at the French company LIP. I'm new to watch collecting myself but recently picked up one of their iconic Mach 2000 models for a solid deal. They also made some pretty funky looking jump hours if that's your thing.
I have just found Sheffield Steel D shaped jumper clearing a house out but I cannot find any other information on it, what's the value in it, any ideas? Lovely collection though!
Ian Margetts hey Ian cheers mate. Really think these are not your bag but glad you enjoyed seeing them ! Maybe when I do my digital video you might turn that corner 😂

It was 350. I’m pretty happy there’s a Sicko , Elgin, boliva action , orient ,sector 450 and a Helbros so I’m pretty happy early birthday

Jump hours are neat, personally I like the older 1930s/40s ones though. Shame they go for a fair bit if they're in decent working order. Also quite a shame no one really makes jump hour watches anymore, except the really high end hand crafted things that go for 5 or 6 digit price tags. The term "Jolie laide" comes to mind when looking at these jump hour watches, they're ugly but also beautiful ....another great watch collection video mate👍
..... most of these watches came in not very durable materials, the cases that were made of stainless steel were rare ... it is understood, because it was a moment of competition with the Japanese watch industry and they were looking to save costs and offer low prices, chrome plating or electrolytic baths make many improvements to restore them a black PDV would not hurt some with much deterioration and make a more contemporary image.
Some of the higher brands who did these came in solid stainless but you are right a fast majority were chrome plated with very basic, usually 1 jewel BFG movements that were considered by many to be a throw away item. I have serviced a few and they are very difficult and still don't run great afterwards. Thanks for watching.
@@MyRetroWatches ..asi is a friend! .. I hope you manage to get one and see how those gauges are and if possible you can '' resurrect it '... ... it would be great ... to spend a pleasant and successful week.
Those watches are sooo ugly to my eye. I think i would wear something like those when i want to poke the aesthetic sense of people, to make them feel disturbed/uneasy/unpleasant. Kind of like bad body odour :)

The lov is my favorite
Thanks, its a crazy one but quite unique.
That LOV looks like something the Men In Black would have worn lol
It is BFG 582, not 158
You need a Seiko Disc Burger in your collection.
Interesting video,Yakota in arabic means precious ruby , just an opinion may be this watch was oriented to arab people thank you for the content.
Thank you for this. Could be helpful. I thought it might have been Japanese so perhaps I was wrong.
..... most of these watches came in not very durable materials, the cases that were made of stainless steel were rare ... it is understood, because it was a moment of competition with the Japanese watch industry and they were looking to save costs and offer low prices, chrome plating or electrolytic baths make many improvements to restore them a black PDV would not hurt some with much deterioration and make a more contemporary image.
Only you care How you look! Other people don't pay as much attention to us as we think!
The gold plated one looks far better the the ,in my opinion, plain looking other ones.
That second Buler you showed is beautifully hideous
🤓👌👍🏾
:)
Those watches are sooo ugly to my eye.
I think i would wear something like those when i want to poke the aesthetic sense of people, to make them feel disturbed/uneasy/unpleasant. Kind of like bad body odour :)
I don't think the strange looks would be from the watch personally but non the less a lovely watch
