      @@davidletourneau4123 im filling out requests and taking them all in account. im not going by any particular order so very happy to review those. only problem is that i only have the expensive cards in foil for those and the full set only in regular. if that is still exciting to you then id be happy to go over them!

    I sold my full set of Legends somewhere in the 90's for $600. Luckily I was smart enough to be sorry and buy another full set a couple of years later. At double the price but hey, I'm glad I did! Same for my Arabian Nights set btw, bought it all back. Dodged a bullet there lol.

      I also remember wanting my tabernacle to be absolutely NM+/M and paying $150 to get it in that condition. Crazy if you think about it. If I kept all the high end cards that I sold back in the day for peanuts compared to now, I could retire right now lol. But hey, a lot of people can say the same haha.

    • @tcgcompletionist
      @tcgcompletionist  Рік тому +2

      i dont know about retirement buddy haha i have no desire to sell them so i cant even view it as an investment but hopefully when i have kids one day they can either continue it or sell it :)

      @@tcgcompletionist Yeah I feel exactly the same way. My collection doesn't represent monetary value to me, it's a passionate hobby. If anything I kind of hate it that it's so expensive now. I wish it never got to that point so I could keep collecting at my own pace and not get priced out by the market for some of the earlier stuff. I'm talking older foil sets in this case for example. I have quite a few, but not all. And it's too expensive for me to complete those now. I'm happy I did manage to finish beta and unlimited in time though. Took me 3 years and a lot of effort. Completing the last 70 cards of my alpha set will forever remain a dream though. But I'm happy for you that you managed to complete all those older foil sets as they are mindblowing.

      @@gmp461 dude you getting beta and unlimited is insane! i dont have either of those complete. im at 90+% of unlimited and 70+% of beta and 40% of alpha.

    As a vintage set collector, I feel there are 3 main approaches. the person who is going to play them that is okay with HP / worse. The person who is going to play the card, but wants a very high quality version that also looks at collectability, but does not appreciate graded / slabbed unusable cards (this is me). Then the very high quality / slabbed and isnt going to use them, and just wants the highest grades they can afford.
    I just completed my Arabian Nights set at command fest seattle, and found so many great condition cards, along with my sets, I also collect one sealed pack, and those I purchase slabbed packs, due to the ability to "search" vintage boosters. Completing Arabian finished all my sets from Arabian, through Urza block. I am currently working on Unlimited, which will be a long road. haha
    Great video, and This made me dig out a binder or two from the ol safe. haha

    Always great to hear the story behind of chasing the particular card. I remember mainly the ones which took me the longest and the ones which i had to replace for a better quality. I want my sets in true NM condition and im always pissed when a ,,NM" card arrive to me and has some scratches etc :-D.

    The banning of Invoke Prejudice and the ones around it is a weird one for me. I really understand Invoke Prejudice specifically, given the explicit depiction of the hooded figure, but the bannings were really random.
    The banning of Cleanse is actually kind of funny to me, as it's the card that reads like a racist card to someone who doesn't understand Magic, but actually is completely safe to someone who is more familiar with the game. (I actually used to joke that it's the card in the game that reads the most racist, but really isn't).
    I really feel like it's the kind of symbol politics that ends up being completely meaningless in the end, given that the cards that were chosen didn't fit any real pattern, but were just the most extreme examples of a bigger pattern. If you were to take this really seriously you would have to ban many more cards, but that would almost certainly have shaken up a lot of negativity.
    It's really the kind of business decision that leads to surface-level appeasement by not really addressing any issues and just doing something small to not offend anyone. Not the way I like things like this to be handled personally, but apparently it worked? So as a business decision it seems to have worked out fine.

    • @tcgcompletionist
      @tcgcompletionist  Рік тому

      thank you for the input. i find its just companies going way to woke but yes i also understand some reasons for bannings. what set would you like to see next?

  • @poxpower
    @poxpower Рік тому +2

    Working on this one myself! Very hard to get in NM now... whew.
    The banning cards for "racist" reasons is ludicrously stupid. They banned Crusade but not like 10 other cards with the name "Crusade/crusader" in them. It can't have anything to do with the original art because they banned all versions of Crusade. They didn't ban all Harold cards, only Invoke, because the art made someone at WOTC think of the KKK. A lot of the people who pretend to support this have been happily playing with these cards since the 1990s and only 'discovered" the racism like 3 years ago apparently. We have the excuse of ignorance, they don't. They knowingly supported something which they themselves thought to be grossly offensive, for 20 years, and now they're acting morally superior ( and failing miserably, as always ). When this happened many of the large Facebook group admins tripped over themselves to virtue signal about this, threatening everyone who even had a discussion about it. I'm guessing many of these folk have ties to WOTC and get deals and product from them and their distributors so it would be a financial risk to not support this and then they pretend like it's just that they hate bigotry.
    I can go on forever on this lol. It's really hard to wrap your head around how many companies can tank/destroy IP so hard in obvious ways that fans all hate. The latest Star Wars movies being a prime example. How can they both make The Mandalorian and also those 3 piles of garbage movies? I don't think WOTC is playing some kind of 4D chess with hidden metrics and market research that show banning old racist cards is genius. I think this is just the dumb idea of a small group of Karens who want to be relevant within the company. Those people should all be fired and the money that's saved can be used to commission sketches from artists to put on APs that you randomly insert into MTG sets. There. I'm a genius. Hire me. I'll do it for 50k/year and don't require an office. You're welcome.

    • @tcgcompletionist
      @tcgcompletionist  Рік тому +1

      hahah what a take! the issue is that the woke agenda hit everyone and everything and most companies had to do something to say "hey we dont support anything like that to protect themselves" and that happened 3 years ago. it would have been probably more grown up to say we condemn any new art or future design and push under the carpet some old designs but hey im not in command. how do you feel about serialized cards and masterpieces? what set shoudl we do next?

    • @poxpower
      @poxpower Рік тому +1

      @@tcgcompletionist They didn't have to do or say anything. Taking a side was a stupid business decision. If a bunch of Karens on Twitter start to amp up drama, just ignore them. Don't reply. These aren't people who can be convinced of anything nor do they accept any apology or concession. All they want is power over anyone who's willing to give it to them.
      How do I feel about masterpieces/serialized cards in what sense?
      I love the OG inventions, one of the most beautiful set in MTG history and I think their print run is sufficiently low (
