I brought my fur baby Pixie to the vet to have her molars checked. Dropped her off & went home expecting to go pick her up again. I got the call that she didn't handle the anestisia & died. She wasn't even 2 years old yet. I wish I had those spreaders, she'd be alive still.
You’re a genius, Saskia! This is awesome, helpful advice. I saved the speculum to my cart. It turns out I have some headlamps from work. I love your purple one!
I have a GP whose bottom incisors have a slight gap, so he is prone to getting bits stuck in them. On occasion he gets something in there he can't get out himself. He makes it really obvious by mouthing and making a lot of mouth sounds. He's not a massive fan of having it taken out, but over time he has come to realise I'm helping him. It's usually a bit of wheat sheaf or something pokey and stiff that gets stuck. I had an older one that would sometimes get bits stuck in his upper teeth. He would also get bits stuck along his gumline, sometimes. He got so old and arthritic before he said goodbye, that he would often need a bit of dental attention, bless him
Saskia, are you able to check the tongue this way? My boy got a molar trim a couple weeks ago, and he's been having trouble eating ever since. He's been pawing at his face the way he did when he had a tongue ulcer a couple months ago. I would love to be able to check myself if possible.
What if we check and find that the molars are overgrown? I have a piggie where this is a possible concern, and my vet says she doesn’t think she can maintain the molars without anesthesia.
Oh my gosh, I never knew what the tools you used were and thought only had to wait for a vet for the molars---thank you and also for sharing where to get and the price, though it's not about the price when you are talking about your piggie's health! One question, about size, does it matter between skinny pigs and the furry? Do I just get the adult for my Harriet who is 17mo. and then a child's obviously, for Clementime who is 3 mo. Thank you for sharing this important information!
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue Thank you, I just ordered mine and I also got a nice deal on the head light, two for one in pink! I had a red one picked out, which is my favorite color, but couldn't beat the deal!
What was the purpose of the towel, since you didn’t bother using it correctly!? Your suppose to hold the towel around it body with one hand so that you can look at them teeth!!

Those tools are very useful. I've had too many piggies with teeth issues and very few exotic vets where I live. The female piggie is so adorable!

Yes it is a mystery to me why pigs are still routinely sedated for simple things. So sorry to hear this happened honey!
I’m sorry for your loss 😢
I’m sorry for your loss.
Even with a bit of a piggy struggle, you still make it look easy!!

These videos are so helpful and a great thing to share when people query things! Thank you Saskia!

I found it to be very helpful. Thank you Saskia. ❤
So helpful, thank you Saskia!
Very good info. I wouldn't have thought to use a nasal speculum
Interesting! Thank you!
Thanks for this very informative video.

Yes sadly most vets will not consider doing a conscious dental trim
God Buddha blessing you all❤❤❤❤❤❤

I explained in the video how I use the towel to wrap the back half to prevent the piggie backing up 🌻
