Get high… Get above yourself Look down upon yourself Until you’re inside o’ yourself Look to the front or the back o’ yourself To the back or front of yourself It’s inside yourself And then you see your own head And know yourself is yourself ‘cause when you find yourself You’re gonna find that yourself is only yourself And the self that can only be yourself So when you’re infront of the back of yourself You’re gonna find that your mind is in the centre of yourself And God is nothing but yourself And when you reach for yourself You’ll know that yourself Is the only thing That can happen to yourself So that nothing can put you down
Summer 94 me and my friend had decided to try DJing 6months before, we had played out some times and it’d been good but we’d never found our sound. I went back home to Birmingham (UK) and had a dozen or so tunes I was tracking down - I had read about Shadow but was more familiar with DJ Krush (this was a double A 12” in UK on Mo Wax). Anyway I bought it,without listening, from HMV cos back then they had like 1-2 listening posts in a store that held thousands records and it was always busy. I took a punt - based on Krush - but my musical world changed when I heard the Sunday Bloody Sunday drum break (I had been a drummer as a kid and U2 was a fave band). By bar 8 I was hooked.. and it went from there, I remember it like it was yesterday, lying on my bed ,my mind being blown minute-by-minute.
He's the perfect example to point to, to "musicians" who claim sampling music doesn't make you a musician. Ask those people who say that : "how many rewards have your album won then? Yeah I thought so".
you must have all of massive attack's albums, all of james lavelle's music, all compilations that have Unkle remixes, thom yorke, modeselektor. theres a solid algorithm, huh.
Listen to this reminds of 20 years of hard labour..I spent all my 20,s getting my Hnds,,and all my 30,s living an quite life...designing monsters all day.
that atmosphere with the yellow-ish streetlight making the old cracked concrete and brick walls covered in graffiti look almost like a sepia picture nightlife passing by, everything's cool.
Yes it's the re-edited drums from U2's SBS, PLUS the electric piano and guitar from Fleetwood Mac's "Brown Eyes" which is an absolute banger in it's own right.
This has been on my mind for years, and none of the usual resources have ever had an answer, so I finally have to ask. Does anyone know where the voice sample in the last minute of the song comes from? It's haunting and relaxing all at once, and I'm not even entirely sure what he's singing. I'm just ready to hear it. It sounds to me like "I said goodbye to you today" or "I say goodbye to youth today." The final touch on a beautiful song. I see an apartment living room at sunset, and a bad fever fading away when I hear it.
I would love to know all the samples used i this brilliant song. So far I know: U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday Fleetwood Mac - Brown Eyes Anybody know more?
Murray Roman, Busted comedy LP.....you can find it easy on discogs. The dialogue is from a track called, 'Speed Rap'. www.discogs.com/Murray-Roman-Busted/release/2314510 The weird, psyche guitar is from Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs LP.....again, easy to find on vinyl.
I am really sure the guitar sample during the first 2-3 minutes that's faint is - Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs anyone agree? also around the 8:30 9 min mark
Get high…
Get above yourself
Look down upon yourself
Until you’re inside o’ yourself
Look to the front or the back o’ yourself
To the back or front of yourself
It’s inside yourself
And then you see your own head
And know yourself is yourself
‘cause when you find yourself
You’re gonna find that yourself is only yourself
And the self that can only be yourself
So when you’re infront of the back of yourself
You’re gonna find that your mind is in the centre of yourself
And God is nothing but yourself
And when you reach for yourself
You’ll know that yourself
Is the only thing
That can happen to yourself
So that nothing can put you down
+Giorgi Zhvania Yeah ;-?
+Giorgi Zhvania Where is the sample from, do you know?
proterozoic "The vocal break was lifted, according to Davis, from a late-'60s prison record."
+Giorgi Zhvania Wow, thanks! I've never even heard of a prison record, what is it? A music record made in prison? Or prisoner record?
Vocal samples are from Murray Roman's comedy LP Busted, which DJ Shadow also sampled (the traffic ticket section) on Stem/Long Stem.

That U2 break is killer
This song has a lot of meaning even without words. Liberate yourself people
It does have words, so many in fact that nobody can process them.
this is possibly the best instrumental hip hop track ever
The beat is sampled from the U2 'War' album. I believe "Sunday Bloody Sunday" was the track.
Lol ur not a drummer

And when you reach for yourself, you’ll know that yourself Is the only thing that can happen to yourself, so that nothing can put you down.
Sunday Bloody Sunday
that march beat
Those drums really took me by surprise
It seems so obvious now but sampling Larry Mullens drums from “Sunday” is genius
Those scratches was hitting hard at the beginning.
I'm mad they removed this absolute banger from Spotify for some reason
Spotify pays dogshit.
