    James did the right thing here and only said things known to be public facts and pointed us to the conference where the respective CEO's will give the direction going forward. A solid video like this is why they trusted James with executive leadership.

    I remember decades ago, as a Winnipeg resident, when Flyer faced financial issues. My less than perfect memory remembers the Manitoba provincial government dumping cash into the company, possibly becoming part owner. The name was changed to New Flyer and the rest is history. Thank you for yet another great video. The time and effort that you take to make these videos are greatly appreciated by all of us.

    It was a sad day in Belgium, not only for the workers that lost their jobs, but for what Van Hool represented: they were truly the skunk works division of bus building: a comfy tour bus where the back works like a regular cargo truck for band equipment ?, prisoner transport ?, Mobile doctor office ?, most nightliners for bands on tour ?, a mobile hotel that can fit and sleep 20 people ? They were doing all of that. Their strength was any one-off thing involving people transport that was not on anyone else catalog.
    The bankrupcy impacted me personally: my bus (a T812) has been stuck in the garage for nearly two months because it needed steering joints, which led me to cancel my holidays to Finland.
    Still, to this day, despite the promises of VDL for a quick restart, the spare parts situation is uncertain: i have ordered a couple of non-critical parts that, according to the customer portal, is in stock, but there was still no movement. It's been 3 weeks now, there is probably a large backlog of orders for more important customers that need to be processed first, so i'm not losing hope yet.

    NOOOOOOO! I cut my teeth driving VanHools. So many fond memories driving them. They had large windows, luxury features and the curb appeal others didn't offer. Not as robust as Prevost or MCI? So what, you're going to replace them anyway every few years. I still remember a tour guide addressing his full group, "This is a 61 seater, largest in captivity." I proudly drove it down the interstate. VH Forever!

    I depend on Motor Coach World to keep me up to date. I formed an application for ABC motor coach for orchestrating the Van Hool double decker electric bus trip across the USA. I hope ABC will come out OK with their major brand Van Hool being in bankruptcy and likely being taken over by another company.
    Van Hool was always looked as a far number 3 after closely compared Prevost and MCI in North America. The Van Hool provided the only double decker motor coach in the USA which was an inspiring sight on the highway. Where Prevost and MCI were known for reliability and build quality. Van Hools seemed to be known for being glitchy, built to lower standards and a bit cheaper to purchase new. They'd look of surprisingly good quality build from looking over their exterior.
    Prevost and MCI use stainless steel for major structure components. That insures long term life with that attitude through out the entire bus. With Van Hools that was not a given. Prevost went to IFS in the late 1990s. MCI much later. They both were being developed for the faster speeds traveled by North American motor coaches compared to those in Europe. Van Hool seemed to be one of those European motor coaches.

    I'm only speaking from my years of being a passenger: As a kid, my school would charter a bus company that had a Vanhool fleet and definitely loved the ride and look more than the MCI-12s and classic 102 DL3s. But these days, it seems hard to stand out when the competitors make some nice looking, quiet and smooth riding coaches across the board. Again, can't say anything from an owner/operator/driver/maintenance standpoint at all but as a passenger, I have really enjoyed riding today's motorcoaches.

    Yes James, this is older news but I’m glad you brought this to our attention anyway. This new partnership or pending anyway looks like it could be a good one. Wouldn’t really make any difference what they would call the so called new company. Some of those early models back in the late 1980’s into the mid 1990’s were regarded as crapola. Even though they were smooth and quiet buses. I get the impression the quality has gotten better since then. I was taken aback the first time I rode on one over 30 years ago. It was the first over the road coach I was on that didn’t have the traditional DETROIT 2 cycle family of engines so much less noise. Not that we don’t like that sound but I digress. The advice I offer when it comes to buying a car or truck or a new portable AC like I did recently is take the generic approach. In other words don’t be concerned about who builds it just so long as it works as designed. True we have our favorite things and like to buy the same thing to replace what breaks but that’s not always possible. There’s more freedom that way. I truly hope this new partnership will work.

    • @dvaritek434

      Yes. Evs are too heavy. The "fuel" is 45x less energy dense than gasoline, the gap is bigger for diesel. Charging infrastructure is beyond terrible for large vehicles.
      Why does an electric toy bus work so well (as a toy) compared to a full size variant? Bc the energy density of its fuel source is scaled to its mass. If an ebus wanted the same amount of energy available (range) as a diesel bus, the battery would be so heavy it would eat alot of its available payload.

    • @crabbymilton390
      @crabbymilton390 11 днів тому +4

      @@dvaritek434 They would be fine in regional line haul where they could be charged and the end of a trip. Or the same concept in a hotel/airport/parking lot shuttle bus where the thing may seldom venture beyond eye sight of the airport. School buses too where they would likely have a big old diesel generator at the terminal. Hence, no dependence on the grid.

    Knowing some info within VDL, many jobs have been secured in Belgium and North Macedonia. VDL purchased the rights, the tooling and the North Macedonian plant, and is willing to keep the VanHool product line under the VanHool brand and not under the VDL brand.
    VDL is a very big group with over 100 companies covering a broad industry, VDL is present in the USA in the non automotive industry...but in automotive, it produces the Mini for BMW many years.
    The partnership with ABC companies has begun to assist ABC companies to further strengthen the VanHool product.
