I have been diamond painting for about 16 months now, and I DP every day. On work days, it may only be an hour or so, but it is so calming after a very crazy day.
I have had many crafts over the years. I tried to learn crochet long ago but it didn't take. Since I've been a mom these past almost 14 years, the crafts have revolved around my daughter a lot. I have always been a reader, but the first consistent craft for me has been diamond painting. It was a gradual buildup the first year or two, but this year I just really started getting into it. Now that I've submerged myself into the dp community, learned about artists and licensing, and found where the quality is I have become a dp addict 😊 I find it so enjoyable and relaxing and it helps with anxiety. I can't imagine not diamond painting. I suppose if I hit a burnout, I can always take a break, try another craft, etc. It's just hard to imagine that happening when I feel like I'm just hitting my stride. Who knows what the future could hold, dp may evolve or another fun craft may emerge. 😊
I used to be obsessed with crochet then transitioned to diamond painting once my carpal tunnel got really bad. I use Crafting as an escape and therapy for my mental health as a way to ground me. I did recently take a long break just over half a year because of a bad relationship to where I would diamond paint to ignore and escape how bad it was then when I left I just didn't get back into it until I felt the joy for it again. Now I'm in a wonderful relationship expecting my first child and each time I finish a section my partner cheers me on so it's gone from an escape of bad to a celebration.
Diamond painting has been a different craft for me in that I spend so much time on it consistently . It just has a relaxing element that I need after a long work day. I hope you have a wonderful trip to see your family! Merry Christmas 🎄🎅

Put that away last year when I started diamond painting and I see myself doing it for many years. I love that I can sit down for a short period of time and do my craft. I loved cross stitch, then I found crochet and loved it. I would find other hobbies that I would get all the supplies for, and not really enjoy doing it. I really didn't think I would like diamond art, but found a tiny kit in a discount store and liked it ok. I would see the kits in Hobby Lobby and think they cost too much, but finally got Each Tree Has a Soul from DAC while it was on sale at Hobby Lobby, once I finished I went to DAC website and the obsession grew. I think it's been about 2 years now and I can't do any other hobby without wanting to go right back to diamond painting! I hope you and your family have a safe trip and really enjoy your time together! I could listen to you say blah, blah, blah for an hour and still be relaxed the whole time. Your voice is so soothing! 🎅 Diamond painting has definitely lasted longer than other hobbies for me too! I do it literally every day with rare exceptions! I realized it’s because I don’t actually do diamond painting during my regular crafting time. I think I see it more as a meditation or unwinding before bed. So it’s more of a bedtime ritual for me! So it’s never an either or with other hobbies.
I started in 2020 (yay for pandemic hobbies!) and I haven’t stopped since. I was never a crafter before but this works because it’s just mindless enough while still making me feel creative. I cannot paint or draw or make anything on my own 😂.
In my youth (i'm 58) cross stitched obsessively and if I didn't do it once in the day - it wasn't a complete day. Now, I've been diamond painting for 2 1/2 years and am as obsessed with it as the day I started. Again a day isn't complete without diamond painting. I've done 65 paintings so far. I single place and love 60x80's so they take about a month each to do.
I was really into cross-stitch for a few years. I still work on a piece or two at a friend’s but I really like the diamond painting kits. It gives me a creative outlet without requiring any talent. And I don’t have to really think or count. I can just zone out and enjoy.

Earlier this year I got back into reading so I find that I switch back and forth depending on my mood. If I'm feeling burnt out on one hobby I lean towards the other for a bit. Diamond painting just scratches an itch that no other hobby can! 😂

I've been a crafter my entire life. I've tried almost everything. My main crafts now are: Scrapbooking, Junk Journalling. Colouring, Diamond Painting, Tarot, Collage, Cross-Stitch and Knitting. Unlike my marriage, which I'm monogamous and loyal for 30 years, I'm a total player with my crafting. No loyalty to any of them and love to swap around as the mood takes me 😂
I diamond paint every day if possible. Usually, in the evenings. I have scrapbooked, made cards, Bible journaled, and colored but diamond painting is my favorite. I will continue with diamond painting because I don't have to be creative it's done for me with beautiful results.
Hi Katie! In the nation capital, Canada, the mall Sanata has a sensory Santa who has one hour for kiddos who need it. This happens an hour before the regular hours. There are so many malls that this works out beautifully for the kids.
I’m still an avid crocheter, really depends on what I need/want to make. But diamond painting is a new hobby for me, just been doing it for a little over a year. I unfortunately can’t sit for long periods of time, so I get up frequently. Most of my kits are done while I work from home and I am able to stand, so that helps. I also enjoy Legos, beading things, chain mail and dabble in watercolor. :) oh I also play video games! This girls a gamer nerd lol
I just finished the square version of this from DAC, very sad I can't get this version as I prefer rounds but that's what happens when I'm not in the US, glad to see you kitting it up!
I tend to collect bottles and glass candle containers after the are used up. My bathroom has a pretty Yankee Candle (yellow with sunflowers) where I store cotton balls. I started organizing when I started and it got crazy so now I put them in large glass jars: blue, green etc. in each jar then create different decorative bottles, like my kids made with colored sand in school. It would be kinda cool to make a small container for each of the colors mixed from left over canvases to remind you of that painting 😂
I’ve been trying for a couple of months to rotate time with each of my hobbies so I don’t hyper focus and burn out on one thing. I will be thinking of you as you travel with the kiddos! ❤

I also got into wool looping or hooking to make pictures or rugs, I still enjoy that. Lately it’s been diamond painting. I just enjoy it. Enjoy your holidays. I think your going to be amazed at how well your son handles it! You’ve prepped well!

In answer to your question I have found diamond painting the most relaxing because the decisions are made for me. In the past I’ve also enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, and making jewelry. Have completely given up crochet to avoid carpal tunnel. I only do small cross stitch now and repair jewelry for family and friends.

Hi Katie. I am watching the replay. I really like your channel. It is so informative, and you are so pleasant. I see that you are getting rid of some drills. Have you ever asked a library if they would like your unwanted drills. I took a class at our library on diamond painting a wooden snowflake. It was so much fun. They gave us the snowflake and put out a variety of drills for us to pick (one color at a time). It was a free class. They did have to round up some spare drills for us to use. I am looking forward to more diamond painting classes at our library. It is fun to meet other local people who enjoy diamond painting too.

For me I started around the same time as you but I got so aggravated I quit it for a long time, then started looking into it again finding out about the pens and storage so on so I really got into it and now I'm addicted. When I first heard about it I scoffed at it thinking it was a scam with the advertisements. Then I went back to work in Yellowstone and in our employee rec hall there was a cut little kit with cardinals so I took it and that was how I got started.
Katie I tried that dryer sheet hack yesterday as I was kitting up Hazel's World. Let me tell you it was amazing!!!! I will always do that now. Thanks for showing that! Merry Christmas!!❤ Santa's coming!!!😊
I love to cross stitch and diamond paint. I usually do both every day. I praying for a safe and wonderful trip for you, Adam and the children this holiday season. Ours wont be as eventful as it usually is so I plan to have a lot of crafting time after family time Christmas day. Some arent going to be able to come home this Christmas so the ones that are here will come but part will come Christmas Eve and the rest will come over for a little while Christmas Day. However they have more than one family to get to so I suspect after the meal, it wont be long before its just my husband and I. I have some time off work so I will try to catch up on some of these wips I have. Knowing me, I will kit up something new as well. LOL! Cant wait to see what you have coming up for us. I will be watching!

Just had a thought on left over drills. I wondered what to do about it. Maybe this spring I'll try filling a cheap aluminum tray from walmart, fill it with drills and water. Placing daffodil bulbs in it and see what happens.. 🌱
🎄Diamond painting is also the hobby that has "stuck" with me. I have a few people in my life who do diamond paint very casually though. Maybe part of it is who seeks out UA-cam or other social media around their hobbies versus who doesn't? Oooh now I'm pondering all the fun Venn diagrams of hobbies and how people participate in the social size of the hobby. LOL
i usually watch twitch streams anyway but i’ve gotten into diamond painting while watching people play infinity nikki (it’s basically a cozy dress up game). i feel like i paint so much quicker now that i’m watching/listening to twitch streams

When I was a teenager and dealing with general teen problems (nothing too serious), an adult (not family, thankfully) told me to basically “get over myself and stop complaining” because other people had it worse. That made me feel worse than I already did and it took me a long time to get past it. What you said about your struggles reminded me a bit of that time. So I’m going to share with you something that took me years to really internalize: Struggles and hardships are not a competition. They don’t have a rank. Someone else having it worse does not make your problems less valid. If you are struggling or have something difficult going on in your life, that is worthy of compassion, understanding, and grace (including from yourself). And, unfortunately, having good things in your life - while wonderful and definitely something to be acknowledged - doesn’t make the bad things disappear. So don’t worry about seeming ungrateful or like you’re complaining. Your hardships are valid and you deserve to be heard and understood.
I love kitting up this way (most to least). I know it was outside your norm but I'd love to see if with practice, you like the result. Z is playing that same game as Adam right now!
I’ve done several crafts and I tend to finish one project and then move onto the next fixation 😂 Knitting, cross stitch, adult coloring (I do still love color-by-number adult coloring), scrapbooking, Lego (my husband and I had a Lego wedding and had a Lego room before we had kids, so I will always love Lego). I think I like diamond painting because it’s like color by number and I don’t have to use my brain for it 😅 I’m hoping to stick with it for a long time You saying Relient K took me wayyyyy back. My craft/entertainment of choice depends on what my hyperfocus decides on 😆 I'm never simply 'interested' in something, I obsess over it, and my attention goes through long cycles, usually for months at a time. I'm either obsessively reading, listening to and researching music, diamond painting, crocheting, or studying. I'm either all in, or completely disinterested. There is no in between 😂🎄

How you kitted up is how I always kit up DAC kits. As far as crafting goes…I tell everyone that my creative button is broken so I have similar feelings to what you mentioned. I did do planners for a few years because I really liked stickers, but I will flip from happy planner type planning to super simplistic bullet journaling. I have four kids with super busy schedules so I have to visually see it all in front of me…but right now, I want that as easy as possible! I gave up diamond painting for almost a year. I felt like part of it was guilt about over-buying of kits and the other was pressure related to events. Hey, try to let go of the pressure to keep up with your past pacing. Sometimes I feel like you choose the simpler kits to get finished but you don’t seem to enjoys them as much. I want you to be happy. I can feel the drive that the numbers game gives you…but I also sense that is stirring up demand avoidance that is creating this push/pull with the craft. I’m sorry for the unwarranted psychoanalysis!!! You put it out there and it allows me to focus on someone else’s life for a bit. 💗

I have been diamond painting everyday for the last 3 months as i am currently unemployed. I do have long breaks at a time beause i struggle to manage the time and get exhusted. Congratulations on your 200th diamond painting. I have know idea how many ive done.
I loved knitting but the I didn’t really progress past hats/socks/blankets and I live in SoCal. There was just only so many hats and scarves that I could make.
I'm a lot like you in I go through phases of trying thing I tried polymer clay and trying to get into that then I went through the planning phase to even diamond painting I'll be into it for a while then get burnt out and stop doing it then pick it up again
I’m currently working on this one also. I have never experienced such bad static. Mine is actually worse than yours! When I cut open the bags, the drills pop out all over the place like dancing jelly beans.
Oh no, I’m sorry! Static is so frustrating. I definitely recommend dryer sheets or even trying to breathe into the bags of drills, with kind of a humid breath like if you were trying to fog up a mirror.

I always go by weight, then DMC when kitting up. Just because I like to keep the containers in size order while still keeping some what in DMC in order. I tried going by DMC only, my brain couldn't comprehend why the size of the containers were so out of order. 🤷♀️
This was an interesting question. Do these two things really have to be mutually exclusive? When my daughter asked me to start a UA-cam channel with her, it was because we loved diamond painting. If we stopped making videos about it, we would absolutely keep diamond painting because we enjoy it so much. That’s why I think it’s so important to have other interests, too. If you love creating on UA-cam, maybe explore another channel about something else you’re passionate about. For us, while this channel started as just being about diamond painting, it has grown into so much more-it’s about the wonderful people we’ve met and the connections we’ve made. We wouldn’t stop talking to those people, whether we diamond painted or kept this channel going. It’s all about balance and not putting all your eggs in one basket. Having a variety of interests makes it easier to keep things fresh and enjoyable, whether you’re crafting, sharing, or just connecting with others!
Instead of a written book, I recommend reading Manga. Much easier to get through on the move! I recommended this before, but Akatsuki no Yona is a amazing, and is full of dragons!

I also got into wool looping or hooking to make pictures or rugs, I still enjoy that. Lately it’s been diamond painting. I just enjoy it. Enjoy your holidays. Hello to everyone.. i do listen to wips and it is comforting to listen.. while i do my own crafts for cross stitch to dp to coloring to sudoku/puzzles.. or while doing my chores.. it is like having a sister or friend.. have a great holiday to everyone!
In answer to your question I have found diamond painting the most relaxing because the decisions are made for me. In the past I’ve also enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, and making jewelry. Have completely given up crochet to avoid carpal tunnel. I only do small cross stitch now and repair jewelry for family and friends.

Hi Katie. I am watching the replay. I really like your channel. It is so informative, and you are so pleasant. I see that you are getting rid of some drills. Have you ever asked a library if they would like your unwanted drills. I took a class at our library on diamond painting a wooden snowflake. It was so much fun. They gave us the snowflake and put out a variety of drills for us to pick (one color at a time). It was a free class. They did have to round up some spare drills for us to use. I am looking forward to more diamond painting classes at our library. It is fun to meet other local people who enjoy diamond painting too.

For me I started around the same time as you but I got so aggravated I quit it for a long time, then started looking into it again finding out about the pens and storage so on so I really got into it and now I'm addicted. When I first heard about it I scoffed at it thinking it was a scam with the advertisements. Then I went back to work in Yellowstone and in our employee rec hall there was a cut little kit with cardinals so I took it and that was how I got started.
Katie I tried that dryer sheet hack yesterday as I was kitting up Hazel's World. Let me tell you it was amazing!!!! I will always do that now. Thanks for showing that! Merry Christmas!!❤ Santa's coming!!!😊

I love to cross stitch and diamond paint. I usually do both every day. I praying for a safe and wonderful trip for you, Adam and the children this holiday season. Ours wont be as eventful as it usually is so I plan to have a lot of crafting time after family time Christmas day. Some arent going to be able to come home this Christmas so the ones that are here will come but part will come Christmas Eve and the rest will come over for a little while Christmas Day. However they have more than one family to get to so I suspect after the meal, it wont be long before its just my husband and I. I have some time off work so I will try to catch up on some of these wips I have. Knowing me, I will kit up something new as well. LOL! Cant wait to see what you have coming up for us. I will be watching!

Just had a thought on left over drills. I wondered what to do about it. Maybe this spring I'll try filling a cheap aluminum tray from walmart, fill it with drills and water. Placing daffodil bulbs in it and see what happens.. 🌱

🎄Diamond painting is also the hobby that has "stuck" with me. I have a few people in my life who do diamond paint very casually though. Maybe part of it is who seeks out UA-cam or other social media around their hobbies versus who doesn't? Oooh now I'm pondering all the fun Venn diagrams of hobbies and how people participate in the social size of the hobby. LOL
i usually watch twitch streams anyway but i’ve gotten into diamond painting while watching people play infinity nikki (it’s basically a cozy dress up game). i feel like i paint so much quicker now that i’m watching/listening to twitch streams

When I was a teenager and dealing with general teen problems (nothing too serious), an adult (not family, thankfully) told me to basically “get over myself and stop complaining” because other people had it worse. That made me feel worse than I already did and it took me a long time to get past it. What you said about your struggles reminded me a bit of that time.
So I’m going to share with you something that took me years to really internalize: Struggles and hardships are not a competition. They don’t have a rank. Someone else having it worse does not make your problems less valid. If you are struggling or have something difficult going on in your life, that is worthy of compassion, understanding, and grace (including from yourself). And, unfortunately, having good things in your life - while wonderful and definitely something to be acknowledged - doesn’t make the bad things disappear.
So don’t worry about seeming ungrateful or like you’re complaining. Your hardships are valid and you deserve to be heard and understood.

I’ve done several crafts and I tend to finish one project and then move onto the next fixation 😂 Knitting, cross stitch, adult coloring (I do still love color-by-number adult coloring), scrapbooking, Lego (my husband and I had a Lego wedding and had a Lego room before we had kids, so I will always love Lego). I think I like diamond painting because it’s like color by number and I don’t have to use my brain for it 😅 I’m hoping to stick with it for a long time

My craft/entertainment of choice depends on what my hyperfocus decides on 😆 I'm never simply 'interested' in something, I obsess over it, and my attention goes through long cycles, usually for months at a time. I'm either obsessively reading, listening to and researching music, diamond painting, crocheting, or studying. I'm either all in, or completely disinterested. There is no in between 😂🎄

How you kitted up is how I always kit up DAC kits. As far as crafting goes…I tell everyone that my creative button is broken so I have similar feelings to what you mentioned. I did do planners for a few years because I really liked stickers, but I will flip from happy planner type planning to super simplistic bullet journaling. I have four kids with super busy schedules so I have to visually see it all in front of me…but right now, I want that as easy as possible! I gave up diamond painting for almost a year. I felt like part of it was guilt about over-buying of kits and the other was pressure related to events. Hey, try to let go of the pressure to keep up with your past pacing. Sometimes I feel like you choose the simpler kits to get finished but you don’t seem to enjoys them as much. I want you to be happy. I can feel the drive that the numbers game gives you…but I also sense that is stirring up demand avoidance that is creating this push/pull with the craft. I’m sorry for the unwarranted psychoanalysis!!! You put it out there and it allows me to focus on someone else’s life for a bit. 💗

Hello Katie. Hope you are doing well. I have been diamond painting since june 2018. Diamond painting is my only hobby. i would like to try something else. But haven't worked out what yet. I have been diamond painting everyday for the last 3 months as i am currently unemployed. I do have long breaks at a time beause i struggle to manage the time and get exhusted. Congratulations on your 200th diamond painting. I have know idea how many ive done.

I loved knitting but the I didn’t really progress past hats/socks/blankets and I live in SoCal. There was just only so many hats and scarves that I could make.
I'm a lot like you in I go through phases of trying thing I tried polymer clay and trying to get into that then I went through the planning phase to even diamond painting I'll be into it for a while then get burnt out and stop doing it then pick it up again
I’m currently working on this one also. I have never experienced such bad static. Mine is actually worse than yours! When I cut open the bags, the drills pop out all over the place like dancing jelly beans.
Oh no, I’m sorry! Static is so frustrating. I definitely recommend dryer sheets or even trying to breathe into the bags of drills, with kind of a humid breath like if you were trying to fog up a mirror.

I always go by weight, then DMC when kitting up. Just because I like to keep the containers in size order while still keeping some what in DMC in order. I tried going by DMC only, my brain couldn't comprehend why the size of the containers were so out of order. 🤷♀️
This was an interesting question. Do these two things really have to be mutually exclusive? When my daughter asked me to start a UA-cam channel with her, it was because we loved diamond painting. If we stopped making videos about it, we would absolutely keep diamond painting because we enjoy it so much.
That’s why I think it’s so important to have other interests, too. If you love creating on UA-cam, maybe explore another channel about something else you’re passionate about. For us, while this channel started as just being about diamond painting, it has grown into so much more-it’s about the wonderful people we’ve met and the connections we’ve made. We wouldn’t stop talking to those people, whether we diamond painted or kept this channel going.
It’s all about balance and not putting all your eggs in one basket. Having a variety of interests makes it easier to keep things fresh and enjoyable, whether you’re crafting, sharing, or just connecting with others!
