One of the best videos you've put out (information wise.) I was suspect of the board because as soon as you placed a load on the power source it would overload the circuit. Additionally, by putting pressure on your probes, it flexed the the board. Great job overall.
Usually it's the result of short cycling. The fans and compressor use the most electricity starting. If there is something interrupting the cooling or heat cycle, it will turn off prematurely and then cycle back on continuously. This can be caused (likely in this case) by a bad board or thermostat, an HVAC unit not matched to the size of the house (too big is worse than too small), intake/exhaust not properly balanced, low on freon or even a dirty filter, clogged condenser and/or coil. Even the lack of a P-trap will lower the efficiency because the blower will be drawing unheated or cooled air into the air handler.
one thing is for sure it's hard working on somthing after a home owner has played with it trying to diy, and not having a clue what they are doing an trying to use you tube videos, then they have to wind up calling some one, atleast this guy had admitted to messing with it, some will mess it up an think your stupid an say it just went out, an you find wire together that are not supose to be an know one had worked on it
I always clean up the wires it’s much easier for me to diagnose, but I would write an estimate to replace both the transformer and board but I bet that one of those solder joints on the board are cracked
my air conditioner was having problems with outside unit not running so i replaced the condenser unit fan motor its bearings were dry and hard to move and put in new contactor so unit was running well now the stupid blower in attic decided to not come on when cooling is called for even though unit outside is on and i can manually get it to come on with manual fan on button for thermostat. I don't think i can even get up in attic through the small access door to look at the attic unit at least it is end of cooling season up in PA
Any verdict on the high electric bills? Doesn't look like it has heat strips anywhere? Glad you fiund the loose connection, that was driving me crazy so I imagine it was worse for you!
I hate those situations where you do a few things and then the unit suddenly works. I was a computer person for people's desktop units when their system stopped working. If I couldn't figure it out, I'd just tell the user, "Magic occurred here."
700 to 800 electric bill. Choke! If I get a 150-dollar bill in the middle of summer, I began to squirm and I live in hot Texas, and everything is electric except my cook stove. I even air-condition my 8 ft by 8ft dog's house.
@@jthonn Glad to see that mindset here. As someone who's naturally curious, I'll watch and ask questions about just about anything tbh. I just like knowing how things work and it's always great to run into people that don't mind me watching -- or are even willing to share and teach.

That’s a Big Helicopter you have there by your side 😂
Saw you jump when that blower came on 😄
That home is probably a literal 'breath of fresh air' compared to some of the hovels you've had to work in recently.
Excellent video Mr Curtis
OMG I think you have a new apprentice
Wow, another nice clean house!! You must be living right!!
Don’t get used to it.
Thank you for uploading videos 🤟. 🤜🤛

Great job troubleshooting the wiring curtis very useful thanks for the video
Glad it helped
With the cover off, won't the blower suck air from the attic instead of the filter? Anyway, nice job
Nice job Curtis, these repairs should cure the customers ongoing problems 👍 Au

I am retired from HVAC and industrial control system work. I have used a plastic pen to push on more boards that I can count.
One of us, one of us!
This customer drove me crazy through the phone, good job Curtis.
Them customers that just shotgun you with information
what was the cause of his much too high electric bill ??

In the worst case I've seen heat strips running with cooling and the bill can be in the thousands.
Thanks for the video. Stay safe out there.
You bet
Great job Curtis
Thanks
A old BIC pen is perfect for those board clips, good ol’ Steve Lav from New York told us on his you tube channel
That much previous moisture in an air handler cabinet will surely cause boards and internal board connections fail.
I agree, I was thinking the same thing
Let the man work 😂
Curtis, if it was me, I’d have cut that 2x4 diagonal brace out-a-there by now!!!😂
Really good video!
Thanks!

I wouldn’t have glued the p-trap to the pipe coming out of the wall so it could be removed and cleaned out.
He sucks those out with his little vacuum.
Did you actually have the board on your truck or did you leave and come back? Just curious thanks. Is that a common part that goes out?
Had to go get it
@@HVACGUY I was wondering. So many parts... I was like he can't have them all. But maybe so.
👍👍👍
What’s the red magnetic light you use in the videos? I like how compact it is and want to get one
@ m12 ? or is it just a rechargeable one? thank you bro
I like the Braun magnetic light and it's attachments myself from Harbor Freight. Can catch it on sale randomly for dirt cheap
Cold solder joint?
Probably
Maybe I missed it, by why were the electric bills so hi??
Have you got 240 volts? Maybe a bad breaker.
should have offered him a job as an apprentice

Havc guy what meter leds are you using on your field piece meter
Fluke twist guard
You hear that guys all you Hvac text with those vape pens they’re not vape pens. They are tools a way to find duck leakage.

Lots of complete haters on this video😂.. they've clearly not watched your videos previously..people can't help but hate
What is he saying? "You have to have it off cool until the fan is running?"
I am not a fan of all that spaghetti. Drives me bananas

UA-cam Advertises plus they Pay you. 😬👍
You should have offered him a $5 bill and suggest he go down to the nearest Starbucks and get his favorite coffee drink.
New customer complained already?
I had an a gas furnace with a WR board loose the common internally. Took a while to figure that one out.
It’s very uncomfortable working with the owner or fiancé by your side . Lord
Just another reason I dislike residential service.

We live in CA in a community in the high desert. A month of AC usually costs us about $350 (1900 sq ft) but we have neighbors at over $1000.
Holy Crap! So even the dogs are bigger in Texas?

Textbook definition of a Helicopter Customer. Sometimes best just to button everything up and when asked say idk what the last guy did and walk away.
When you know what you are doing and confident, you don't care if the customer watches.
