    Episode 39 of Love At First Scent
    This was a Facebook Live broadcast streamed on Wednesday 18 September 2019. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
    In this episode, I covered Ermengildo Zegna Essenze Madras Cardamom edp.
    Here’s a link to the blog post I mention in the video: persolaise.com/2019/09/persol...
    --
    Here's the blotter update...
    - The coffee-cardamom duality remains wonderfully in tune, both cool and roasted, like I said in the broadcast. A commendable addition to what is already a strong line.
    [Sample provided by Ermenegildo Zegna.]
    Thanks again for watching.

    I’m very curious for you to review some samples from the brand Pineward. My partner and I decided to get him a new scent and we looked towards some lesser known houses and found Pineward. We ordered about six cents and I have to say that it’s some of the most unique frangrances I’ve ever smelled. Particularly Funerie (mushrooms and truffles), fanghorn (anise and wet moss), steading (pure honey)and hayloft (sweet dry dust). I have to say, we absolutely loved the samples, but it was like nothing I’ve ever smelled before.

      Oooh, thanks Carli. I’m not familiar with that brand at all.

      @@Persolaise they may not look as refined as most other brands but I would suggest trying a few. We tried a few other houses as well but I think we are going to go with Pineward just because they are so incredibly unique. They smell so natural that on the skin they really become a part of you.
      I love your videos!! I have so many samples from your suggestions!

    finally took the bait and ordered mine yesterday - can't wait to try it and see how it is (based on the notes you described, seems like it would be up my alley).
    also want to try the Florentine Iris from the Essenze collection - heard that's a very popular choice of many as well.

      Had a decant of Florentine Iris years ago, still remember it, it was that great. Ended up buying Iris Ukiyoe though.

    I've came across almost buying this blindly a few times but haven't done that yet. I think that I will like this but it sounds a bit "simple" if you will, which might not be a bad thing. I've also been under the impression that this is their kind of new version of discontinued fragrance Indian Spice but not sure if that's the case. Thanks for the review!

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  4 роки тому

      Ah, that’s interesting. I don’t think I’m familiar with Indian Spice. You’re right in that the fragrance isn’t especially dense or layered: it mostly sings the same tune from start to finish. But it does so well.
      Thanks very much for watching.

      @@Persolaise Me neither but that's what I've read. Either way this sounds very interesting. Thank you for your take on this and it made me even more interested of the perfume.

    I have enjoyed this, mainly because of the engaging enthusiasm that you show for cardamom. I don't think I'd like this perfume, though, as I'm not partial to vanilla. I also have my doubts about Madras and vanilla. They do grow vanilla in India nowadays, but it is not really an Indian-Indian spice. Anyway, besides Cartier Declaration, which you mentioned, what are your favorite cardamon perfumes? I like the note, but it is difficult to handle - it is so very one-dimensional, it doesn't ever change over time, unlike many other spices, and it can be quite biting. So I'd be interested in well-integrated, multi-dimensional, non-sweet, non-vanillic, cardamom-heavy perfume. Of particular interest to me would be combining cardamom with pepper and wet green notes, because I have seen cardamom grown together with black pepper and betel palm trees in wet mountain areas of Southern India.

      Thanks so much for the wonderfully detailed comment, and for watching.
      The truth is that I haven’t yet found the Holy Grail of cardamom perfumes. My current favourite is probably Hermès Cardamusc, but I know it’s not the final word on what a cardamom perfume could be.

      @Sebastian-hs4mm 4 роки тому +1

      @@Persolaise Thank you for answering. Yes, I have wanted to try Cardamusc ever since I saw the review on your blog last year, but there seem to be no samples, and at 16.500€ per litre it is a bit out of my price range.

      Late reply but if you are a Patchouli fan you gotta own Patchouly Indonesiano from Farmacia Annunziata- The KING of all patchouly fragrances, slayer of all others including Villoresi and Profumum Roma
