"Let's up the ante and pick a target score, I'll do 65, that would be hard to do." 5 min later... "What do you normally shoot around here?" "Mid-60s" 🤣
@@mitchb869 me too mate. I'm actually loving the you tube golfers that are showing us a better or another side of the PROS. They are just mentally so good. And as frustrating as golf can be. It's really a awesome game physically and mentally. If it was easier we all would be waiting at the tee boxes longer than we already do .
It was funny but I believe it definitely shows his true character. Guess that tell all book that one former friend of his came out with was probably true .
That was a lay up and Grant missed it!! Duh Phil. You are one of the best to ever play this game and now have 40+ years of experience beating folks at this game. I'm just a 25 year old UA-cam golfer. Actually I'm glad you asked. Let's make it a 7 shot lead.
Love your content, Grant. Here's how I became a fan of Phil. For my 50th birthday in 2001, my wife gave me a trip to a pro golf tournament of my choice (among the Texas tournaments). I chose the Colonial in Fort Worth. It just had so much history, I couldn't imagine a better one. I chose my brother-in-law, Kevin to go along with me. We're watching the practice round on Wednesday, going from one group to another until we got alongside Phil and Tom Lehman. On one of the shorter par 4's Phil's drive leaves him about 50 yards short of the green. He hits a low shot that hits the front of the green, takes one long skip and checks up right next to the pin. Kevin goes "Wow, how did he do that?". I jokingly said "Why don't you ask him?" Well Kevin just takes off and jogs right up to Phil in the middle of the fairway and asks him "What club did you hit that with?" Phil says "an L wedge". Kevin says "How did you get it to stop right next to the pin?". So Phil takes the club and explains to Kevin how to hit that shot to get the trajectory and spin that he wanted. I'm over in the rough just flabbergasted that Kevin was able to jog right up to Phil, and not only did Phil not tell him to get the hell away from him, he politely answered his question and showed him how to hit the shot. We followed Phil and Tom the rest of the practice round and actually had a little bit of a conversation back and forth. As we left them coming down #18 we asked them what their tee times were for Thursday. They told us and we said well we have a round of our own on Thursday morning and they said "Have a good round". Both of them were very cool guys.
I met Tom Lehman several times at San Luis Obispo CC Straight Down Tourney every Nov. top shelf indivual very approachable, met his wife Melissa & Thomas also..they met here in San Luis Obispo thanks to Lauren Roberts met him too...very nice guy!
phil having this man in shambles off the rip is exactly the kind of golf grant hasn't been exposed to in the videos he plays other pros in. Solid change of pace, great video
I was never into golf, I randomly started watching goodgood and Grant. You all really started to make me enjoy the game, more so that it got me on the course. Now I enjoy playing, watching, and learning. What you said about why you started UA-cam and mental tension of tournament play really made a lot of sense. Keep up the good work on building this crazy game. P.S. Phil making mental scrabbled eggs on 1st was next level.
As a former golf course maintenance guy, I knew Phil's BS as soon as it came out of his mouth, and the fact that Grant was eating it up had me 😂. Usually, courses give the greens a break on Mondays by not mowing them to concentrate on other projects.
Kinda in awe of Phil's ability to politely question Grant's chosing of starting 5 under, graciously accepting Grant's decision to stick with 5 under, then employ the mind games to reduce that lead on the first hole, then dial it back when he was like "ok thats fair"!
48:35 thats incredible man, Phil talks about how he needs to hit this shot exactly, where hes gonna hit a low draw, bounce it to the right off that big slope from the left and onto the green. And Phil does exactly all of it.
Who ever edits your videos is legit! It was cool to watch yall go back and forth on Phil giving you a 5 shot advantage. It was fun to watch yall size each other up in the beginning. Best match yet. Phil is pure class. Grant you need to stop wining about bad shots. Have you ever heard Phil complain….no. He’s always smiling and positive.
That compliment from Phil about his channel and how it evolves the game to a different generation. Good for you Grant! Loved your vibe with Phil too! You guys really showed your passion for the game too!
By far the greatest UA-cam golf 1v1 I have ever seen. I love seeing Grant doing mental gymnastics over everything Phil says and does! It really shows how different of a game it is at that level.
This is awesome Grant having Phil play a round with you !! You’re channel is the best UA-cam golf channel out there! What a great person Phil is too . Keep up the great work Grant ❤️🙏🙏
This is Phil giving a master class on how to mentally dismantle an opponent. His reputation is legendary but actually watching him in action against Grant makes this video an instant classic. Can’t wait for part 2!
Phil’s got that gentleman’s banter and game. Like he’s chirping but not personal jabs, just occasionally laying in tour expectations for Grant. The type of guy where you thank him after losing to him. Met some folks like this on the poker table too
Really nice to see someone like Phil Mickelson come on the channel, and not only be engaging, but also willing to explain everything he is doing. All while messing with Grant along the way. Content at its best.

Especially Phil for what you have done both on the circuit and the transition to where we are now. You are an elder statesman at this point. Do not mess this up. I do not think you can at this point as long as you keep on doing what you are doing in this video. Come on folk's.... Lets Go!
Honestly feel the same way. Phil is entertaining to watch and he's an all time trash talker and old school mind game player. Probably one of the best out there.
You have saved me Grant. I turned to golf and it made me a better human and got me out of my depression overall. I appreciate you showing me the light at the end of the tunnel. Best on UA-cam!
All the die hard golfers know exactly what you described as golf "got me out of my depression overall". This is a big part of "The great game of life" and we all celebrate your healing. Troubles, depression, tiredness; It all starts to totally fade away heading for the first tee. On the 19th hole we are tired in a good way; invigorated, refreshed and encouraged. Cheers!
“Come on, it’s gonna be a long day” 😂😂😂😂 yo Phil is an animal. The shenanigans + making a bet then immediately upping the ante for the bet is wild. He’s a monster. What a fun video.

Having now watched all 18 holes of this match, my comment is that this video plus Phil's video of the second nine holes are totally fascinating. I've never seen a blend of competitiveness and gamesmanship combined with admiration for each other combined with a pupil-teacher vibe (of Grant for Phil). This could never happen in a tournament. They wouldn't have said a word to each other. But in this UA-cam format they couldn't stop talking. Congratulations on a brilliant job by both of you. And great golf to boot.

What a great experience to get to play with one of the all time greats. Love the content, lets get to a Million!!!!

One of your best videos Grant, I could not stop laughing when he suckered you on the first, and then declares that he usually shoots mid 60's after you agreed to a 65. Brilliant just too funny.
This really shows the Kobe level of competitiveness of Phil. Doing whatever he can early to make sure he beats you even in a UA-cam match. Guy is everything you want out of an all time great. And props to Grant for bouncing back against him on hole two.
it sounds like michael schumacher levels of mind games. One example: him knowing his teammate had to take a piss before the race, so he would stay in the bathroom longer until the last minute to hog it.
This has been one of the best golf videos. Listening to Phil talk thru how to play the round is priceless. Grant, keep getting these pros on your channel. He would be cool to see Phil and Wes play.
Since his debut on tour, Phil has always been my favorite golfer. Very proud of his successes. This video has been such a joy to watch that personality i've always loved be showcased on Grant's channel.

Phil is an absolutely amazing guy, watched him a few holes at JCB UK and warming up on the range day 2 and 3, so engaging with everyone.
As a lefty myself, Phil always been my favorite to watch! Paired with my favorite golf UA-camr this has been a blessing to watch ❤️
