My mouth is watering everytime a see red elm. most people think it would be soft but hard as a rock. You are exactly rite on the green chunks in the stove. It is the best.

I just cut up another red elm today on my property. It's so hard that when the tree fell it still has all of its branches attached 👍💪

I agree, Red Elm is my absolute favorite. Hard to find , but a gem when you do find it. Just burned a log last night, lasted 11 hours!

I’m currently burning some American elm this winter. I had to take down a large tree about a year and a half ago that was dying from DED. I ended up with about 5 cord of firewood once it was all said and done. A lot of guys here don’t want it because it’s a beast to split, but it makes a really nice firewood. I really like how those stringy grain pieces dry out, and then catch really quick on a good bed of coals. Well worth the effort as long as you have a splitter.

I just cut up the biggest red elm I have ever seen in my life here in central Illinois. It's my favorite wood. Burns hot and holds it coals long in my wood burner

I find it here in Michigan by the pile of bark around the tree.
