This is a good video. I appreciate the time you put into. There are a couple of things to clarify. First, talking about the stages as "steps" implies that change is linear. This model and its creators have been very clear that change is not linear. It is cyclical. Second, a person can enter the model at any stage. Many people don't start at precontemplation. They enter the change process at different levels of motivation/preparedness. Third, relapse is not a stage. It is a reality that can rear its head at any point as a person is working on making a life change. I hope that is helpful to people watching this. (I am a former clinician and current psychology prof if you are wondering about my credibility.)

    TY
You are the only person who can make a change in your life. You definitely have to want to change & have alternatives options & if you need external support have the support system there.
However, other people won't always be there at all times, so find alternatives be there for yourself or call a hotline or find an online group or other support group.
Relapse can happen with any type of change. It doesn't mean failure. It means retrace your steps to see what happened, so you explore options to assist you with getting back on track with your goals.
There are always options & resources to help you move beyond your barriers.
Let go of people, places, jobs, & things that try to prevent you from making healthy changes or from living your best life.
This theory can definitely help you make changes. However, nothing happens overnight & definitely have to have reinforcement & rewards.
This isn't just for addictions, this is for any behavior that you desire to change or replace.
Letting go is a daily process-Melody Beattie

I try to use my 5/7 rule. If you’re trying to build a habit, do the new goal habit 5 out of 7 days a week just like work!

Understanding steps is helpful. How to execute successfully on this information is something else.

    1) pre contemplation. research about your habit
    2) contemplation. you need to resolve inner conflicts so that all of you 100% want to change. also finding competing interest
    3) preparation. create a plan to deal with obstacles based on experience of others and your own
    4) action. reflect on your journey and just copy your successeful attempts and change your plan of actions for relapsed ones
take any smallest improvement as proud W as well as being kind to your relapses. that reminds me of saying dumb words for fun then that behaviour kinda sticks
    5) maintenance. idk i have yet to come to this stage

There is no easy answer to this. If you are willing and want to do this on your own, you need to read Motivational Interviewing. It is a book about how clinicians help clients move past some of the obstacles.

This video is toxic AF- the trans theoretical model of behavior change is NOT A TECHNIQUE TO MANIPULATE YOUR ROMANTIC PARTNERS WITH FFS- DISGUSTING. Prochaska and DeClemente would be horrified

Where in the video does it say literally anything about manipulation or romantic partners? I believe in the free market of ideas but I don't even think you attempted to watch it.

@@trundl7395 everything you say about using the model to manipulate other people is misguided, unethical and horrifying. I watched this many times. I am appalled each and every time.
