Ok, I see some people seeing that there are two Mikus and one is a Doppelgänger. But hear me out on my theory. So, Rin and Miku used to be great friends. But as time passed everybody became fond of Miku but thought of Rin as a “rebel.” Rin was jealous of Miku so she started acting as a Doppelgänger. Miku took on quickly before Rin became a legitimate doppelgänger, and she got very angry and their friendship broke. Rin was lonely without Miku and developed fears of making friends and change. This resulted in Rin not changing a bit, but miku did. Everytime Rin saw Miku they would just ignore eachother, but Rin’s heart was aching to run back over to her best friend. Miku realized that Rin was scared and depressed, yet she put her effort into trying to enter the music contest. Miku remembered how good friends they were and when she found out how Rin had been rejected from the contest she knew Rin seemed about ready to give up on life. So just once, Miku decided to help Rin again. And before they New it, they became best friends again.

Everyone has these deep theories while I just thought that rin and Miku signed up for something as best friends but rin got denied and Miku got accepted, Rin got jealous and thus eventually their friendship breaks, rin got to be a loner while Miku more popular, eventually Miku chooses friendships over a contest or maybe a music school and rips the contract lol
Honestly this is how I interpreted things before reading the lyrics in English. The two were classmates had never really interacted with one another let alone had anything in common. Miku saw Rin one day by herself playing her guitar. She confronted her but was a bit hesitant to do so because she knew she was a loner. Once she did Rin brushed her off and said good riddance but secretly wanted her to talk to her again. She couldn't enter the contest alone so she was upset that no one would enter with her. Miku talks to her again after seeing the conditions on the poster and then tears it up saying "bump this mess, we'll enter together". Afterwards the two perform with no bars held back and no worries. From there they high five each other and regret nothing. (After reading the lyrics though I now think that the two did know each other a long time ago but then drifted apart)

I think that Miku and Rin are singing a song about two normal human school girls.
So for part of the song you see Miku and Rin, the pop stars, and in the other parts you see the popular girl in class who has gray hair and the lonely girl with blonde hair.
I personally think it's to show how much Miku has changed, whilst Rin is still the same.
