I was impressed by its uphill performance! It means that it should be able to handle a heavier rider, a load of cargo, and maybe even a loaded trailer, without totally bogging down!!!
Keep in mind that all depends on the degrees of the hill climb, the weight of the rider, and the type and weight of the gear you want to take with you. Remember that you might be adding additional weight, like the front basket and rear basket. And if you are going to tow something like a for taking your pet(s), that will also add weight and resistance, especially trying to go uphill. So, research this bike to make sure that you'll be able to make the grade so to speak.
72 yr old female. I have thought about this type of bike for awhile. You keep saying the word options. If I pay $2500 for a bike I want my baskets, because this would be my shopping cart. Once you showed the back rack I am done. See plenty of complete bikes that are not so expensive. I live on SS and am not looking for an endurance expensive bike. I am looking for a car replacement. Thanks for info. 😮
Steering is actually different enough that experienced riders should work up to higher speeds. Delta trikes require opposite steering to upright bikes which countersteer at speed like a motorcycle. This is advice from a bike instructor who has watched newbies almost crash his delta when they first try it. With a delta you steer it like a car, instead of instigating a lean by steering away from the direction you want to turn. This is all unconscious, which is why you need to let yourself gain some muscle memory and train a bit so you don't accidentally turn into a curb or car when you are in an emergency. Not necessary for a non-cyclist.
Bought my Gemini 7 months ago. It’s a beast and had what I wanted, road slicks, dual batteries, hydraulic breaks, 750w motor. Now it’s even cheaper! Wish I could have option to buy the 15AH batteries though.
Good review. Many people have been asking for a Rad Trike for a while. Glad they finally released one. Quick tip for you...I would NOT recommend riding with the keys still in the battery for several reasons (they can vibrate out and get lost, they can be broken off and stick in the lock, and why make it easy for crooks to get keys to your bike!) ;-)
Even though a trike is not my cup of tea, I like this one. I can totally see it being a grocery getter or a car replacement in small communities. Another use would be for city deliveries, and with a quick release system for that rear cargo area, delivery companies can load up a cargo box and just slip it on. No risk of falling flat on ice patches or snow (like I've done!), but I'd prefer tires with better traction. The battery is barely adequate at best, and I'm wondering if my original 14Ah RadMini battery is interchangeable with this one. The coaster brake may seem odd, but it is logical for a bike that literally splits in half. Thanks for the video!
14Ah batteries are cross-compatible. Thanks as always for sharing your input. I can't wait to see what other people think after test riding these. We also need to get some more miles on it when the weather isn't terrible.
This trike would be a very bad thing to use for deliveries. It's to slow and wide and thus car drivers will hate you. With that battery you would not be able to work for long. I use my ebike for food deliveries and I would never use something like this.
Nice bike! I like to share ideas with people, and have some to share with you. First is the cargo mounting system. It could be modified with an aluminum plate that has a slide in locking system, with one leaver clamping. The Platte can have a trainer hitch hole. With brackets and extra batteries for back ups. Ever a solar charging system with a couple 12 volt solar plannels. The company could add extra brackets for adding on other equipment. Of course some of these ideas are for people who like to go touring longer distances, but can't ride a normal bike.
Those are some nice ideas. We have seen a cargo mounting system like that before, but never on a trike. A solar charging trike is an interesting idea...
I saw the unboxing video earlier today and was looking forward to the review. It's a good bike although gears might have been nice. Not sure though as trikes can be a little bit unstable if turning quickly while at speed. Overall I like it although I won't be buying one as I have no need for a trike. At least not yet. I'm only 68 so I hope I have many years ahead of me with my RW4.
Reverse is cool,I find it impossible to move my Lectric Trike backwards. Right. I'm impressed by the front hub motor like cheap bike kits have. Who needs proper rear wheel drive WITH A DIFFERENTIAL. I'm impressed by the mechanical front disk brake and particularly impressed by the rear coaster brake like bikes I had when I was a kid 60 years ago, brings back fond memories like my Weejuns and our crank telephone. And I love that you can choose from a number of options to make it the semi-usable bike you want. And who needs a speedometer anyway. Love that the handlebars fold down, makes me wish that the frame folded too. But I guess that's not technically possible. I also LOVE that they just reduced the price from $2499 to $1299. I'm sure that all those folks who paid that extra $1500 dollars for it a few days ago will be getting rebates to make that up. Yep.
Great test review. This is the sort of weather that I have to deal with for about 6 mths of the year. Two considerations : accessibility of all-weather winter tires and left and right turning indicators. Pity Rad Power didn't make turning indicators as standard. Can you get some sort of accessories that include these indicators?
The battery has the standard cradle. Therefore, you can either buy and use the higher-capacity battery or get a third-party battery using the same cradle.
Great review, this could be a great E trike for rides that don't feel comfortable on a regular E bike. I really like the idea of the motor in the front wheel. Yeah, could use a bigger battery! Looking forward to test ride this E trike. Thanks from Woodinville WA.
I ordered one (sadly before I watched this, so I didn't use your link) for my partner as a travel alternative to her full-size Evelo Compass. So you know/could you find out what the weight of the front vs the back sections are? We're hoping to separate them and check them as baggage on Amtrak to avoid violating their 50 lb per item limit and enable rail & pedal adventures!
This would be nearly impossible to haul up several flights of stairs if you live in an apartment. And there's no way I would leave this outside due to theft and/or weather damage. The smaller tire size is also very problematic when it comes to finding compatible puncture prevention. For example, the Tannus Armour kit doesn't fit tires this small. Nor could I find Schwalbe Marathon tires in this size (which are among the best for preventing flats). The only thing I like about this design is the motor is on the front wheel. This should really be the standard. Most of the weight is on the rear wheel which is why 99.99% of the time only the rear wheel gets punctures, because of all the weight (rider weight, motor weight, carrying extra weight from groceries, etc.) pressing down on the tire which pushes sharp objects through.
I expected that with the 750 watt motor and the 14 mph limiter that it would do well on the hill test. What other ebike continues at nearly its max speed up that hill? These should be a hit in Florida and Arizona.
@@scottrichards3587 That hill was pretty steep, so it should be fine on most of them. Mid drives being better at hills is a myth, unless it's a mountain bike with better than 1 to 1 gearing.

The tricycle (e-trike) is nice and all, but whoever set the price point at $2500 must have fallen and bumped their damn head. Older Senior Citizens, the one's that could really benefit from a trike, will really struggle to afford one or will have to do without.
Compared to the cost of owning a auto or the lack of freedom of not driving. It would make it a lot easier for children to talk their parents to give up their driver license when the time comes.
How would a trike fare in the winter with ice? I understand that turning a trike is different, but my issue in the winter is stability over ice in a straight-line. I feel like a trike might be more stable, no?

From Rad (I reached out) All of our ebikes are EN 15194 certified. It is a goal of ours to certify all of our bikes to UL 2849 standards as they are released in the future. It takes time to set up the processes to get this certification and our Quality team is working on it diligently.
All these e-trike companies failed at one thing why most people like the trike. To carry passengers, add the abilities to mount a bench seat or create one to turn it into a rickshaw. There are electric rickshaws but I'm not willing to spend $5000 for it.
Even at the current price of $1599 Rad needs to drop the price a lot if they want to sell this trike. So much better on the market now. People want all the extras. No speedometer? come on....
So many keyboard warriors are claiming this trike is unstable- (bad design-should have made it two wheels up front, etc. etc.) At any speed. So since you guys are putting out videos on this new product, put our inquiring minds to rest and put one out on how it corners and if it's stable.
I Strongly caution people to not buy an E-trike. Here's why... I'd like to preface this by saying I have no ill will towards you guys or your channel, but I feel you, your viewers, and anyone looking at e-trikes need to know that they are all overpriced and often predatory for the intended consumer. A small retailer usually pays a factory in China around $1400-1800 per e-trike. That's after factoring in the bulk shipping and accessories that come standard. As an individual consumer you can find them for around $1600-2000 direct from China. Again, WITH accessories like a front and rear rack and in some cases weatherproof storage, PLUS they come mostly assembled (unlike the RAD seen here). This model/build looks marked up even more than is typical. The lack of pre-assembly for an e-trike (which saves them a TON of money), the lack of front and rear racks that should be standard, the small battery size, limited performance, lack of suspension, and the overall size… all of which tells me this is worth nowhere near $2500-$2,726. You do get some support with RAD and the frame is slightly unique compared to most, but I don’t see that justifying the cost. I also imagine these cost RAD the minimum of what I've seen to import, if not less. The whole e-trike market makes me sad, but this one in particular makes me extra sad. The worst thing about e-trikes outside of the pricing is that the people who are often the target consumer are elderly or disabled. Not all of them, but most. A group of people all too often taken advantage of in the first place. Especially the elderly. Most of them do not end up using the trikes they buy for a whole host of reasons (size, convenience, weight, storage, transportation, safety, stability, rideability, accessibility, comfort, parking, etc) that could be summed up to: the reality of owning an e-trike does not meet the expectations retailers market you, as if they were ebikes. There IS a very small group of people out there who will love owning an e-trike. People who can and will use them daily in environments that are built to coincidentally accommodate them. But I have seen too many people get screwed over buying these things and feel the need to bring attention to it.
@@lukazupie7220 You misunderstand. That's your price as an individual consumer, not what retailers pay. And again, the bike in this video is a stripped down version of what you would get for 2k. There are multiple variables you have to consider
I have a 2019 rad rover, and I have never been more pleased with anything I have ever owned . But seeing and reading about your new etrike ,I am just so disappointed. Why didn't you just turn a rad rover into a trike . Sincerely yours Disappointed Senior Rick
Of the 4 ebikes I have owned, the RadTrike is by far the most disappointing. I discovered a design flaw during my first ride. The clearance between the pedals and the frame is insuffient. In order to pedal without having the heal of my shoe contnually catching on the back frame, it is necessary that I peddle using my instep opposed to the ball of my foot. A significanf flaw in a bike lauded for being designed from the "ground up". I discovered the second flaw after a week of riding. The back chain sprocket assembly has a sprocket that, instead of being part of the bar attaching it to the bike, is a seperate, moveable part using a simple hex bolt to keep it in place using friction between the bolt and the bar. An absurd design given the bar is subject to continual vibration that loosens the bolt making it necessary to tighten it repeatedly to prevent the chain from coming off. A purchase I deeply regret.
This idea that trikes are unstable is just nonsense......how is it less safe and less stable than a traditional 2-wheel bike? At this price-point I think RAD has a hit on their hands. First, e-bike are bringing biking back to millions....now, this entry-level priced e-trike will expand that to even more people.
Have you tried a motorcycle with a sidecar? These are as stable as that vs a 2 wheel motorcycle. Many will be injured and these will fall out of favor, so I'd get one now if you like them, because later, like 3 wheel ATVs that have been banned for years, these will very likely be history.
Lol goobfilmcast u have no idea what u are talking about.😀 regular bike leans. This doesn't. And that makes it easy to roll over. Especially in this high height and narrow track combination. It looks cool tho, in my opinion.. would use it around the village 200m up and down, if they send me one for free and make me promise i will not sell. 😂
@@lukazupie7220 Actually, I am a retired Special Needs Teacher and I am still active in the community overall. I know MANY kids (and adults) with neuromuscular and other balance issues that will benefit INCREDIBLY by having a bike like this. It will allow them to explore the outdoors and take bike rides with their families, experiencing a real independence that they don't get as a "passenger". Throttle and pedal-assist E-trikes are safer and more approachable for less able riders or those with motor skill deficits. I would love to see more kids who cannot ride on two wheels get a chance to explore the outdoors on a trike like this.
worst placement of a battery ever, it stops elderly people from mounting comfortably, everyone else mounted the battery behind the seat where it dont obstuct movement ! plus the fact they only have a 20 in front wheel where the rest are 24 in the front, yet ask the same price if not more
We think they put the motor there to make the assembly of the bike easier. The room to step over is larger then you would think. The camera makes things look a bit smaller sometimes. 😉

100% agree. At least it should have a 25A controller to achieve 1200W. With 3 years on a Rad Rover (which weighs much less than a trike) with a 750W motor and standard controller, hill climbing performance is rather poor. It took a Bolton/Area 13 1200W/25A upgrade to handle hills in my area.

All these e-trike companies failed at one thing why most people like the trike. To carry passengers, add the abilities to mount a bench seat or create one to turn it into a rickshaw. There are electric rickshaws but I'm not willing to spend $5000 for it.
What about the Rad Burro?
No longer in production as far as I'm aware.
Even at the current price of $1599 Rad needs to drop the price a lot if they want to sell this trike. So much better on the market now. People want all the extras. No speedometer? come on....
I vote for a range test!
We will see what mother nature says. She is currently covering everything in ice near us.
how much i live in srilanka
I would have been nice if they made it two seater with a max payload of 500lbs
Does the battery fit from other Rad Bikes?
Yes, 14Ah shark style battery only.
XP.. better. Al the way. You guys 😂. You guys are the ones that should me about the XP
Hey nice how much , how can I afford this I'm retired limit account
Launch price is $2499
I like the electric trike it is a reasonable price
So many keyboard warriors are claiming this trike is unstable- (bad design-should have made it two wheels up front, etc. etc.) At any speed. So since you guys are putting out videos on this new product, put our inquiring minds to rest and put one out on how it corners and if it's stable.
For the recommended speeds this is meant for - slowing down to
5mph😂 that confirmed it, it is unstable. Keyboard warriors were right it seems 🤔😀
If random chines bike is 2000$ this one doesn't seem so bad for 2500$, it is like u tried to disprove yourself lol 🤔
@@lukazupie7220 You misunderstand. That's your price as an individual consumer, not what retailers pay. And again, the bike in this video is a stripped down version of what you would get for 2k.
There are multiple variables you have to consider
And in a flash Lectric just killed the sales for this with a much better spec'ed version for $1,000 less.
The Trike from Lectric is so hard to argue with at this price.
I have a 2019 rad rover, and I have never been more pleased with anything I have ever owned . But seeing and reading about your new etrike ,I am just so disappointed. Why didn't you just turn a rad rover into a trike . Sincerely yours Disappointed Senior Rick
Trikes are unstable. They should have put the two wheels in front and the single wheel in back like some motorcycles do. Larger battery, and gearing.
I agree, but that would push the price too high for their customer base.
And the rear coaster brake is a big mistake. I predict many injuries, even at their limited speed. What is Rad thinking? They're not.
For all the potential carrying capacity, the battery is too small and so is the motor.
I think along with pedaling it should be ok. Can't be lazy.
Yes. A 1000W motor and 25W controller yielding 1200W capability would have been a much better choice. These will stall on hills.
With the Pedego trike you get five year warranty
Thanks for pointing that out.
For the handicapped people will Medicare pay for it if they will thumbs up

Obrigada
THAT'S what you call reasonable?
Is it compatible with the upgraded 35A controller?
Not sure, to be honest I don't think a more powerful controller would be a good idea.
For better ride it should work like Piaggio mp3, but then they would want 5000$ probably😁
They should bring back the rad mini step through instead of a trike, BOOOOOOOOOOO ! 😡
60lb cargo capacity on the back is pathetic for a trike like this. So is the 10ah battery.
Battery too small for a trike. Needs to be minimal 14 if not 20mAh
Too pricey don't like the front wheel motor and the battery is
in a bad place I rather buy a lectric trike and save lots of money
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Not for me I like to go fast and don’t wanna tip over..but I can see older people using this
worst placement of a battery ever, it stops elderly people from mounting comfortably, everyone else mounted the battery behind the seat where it dont obstuct movement ! plus the fact they only have a 20 in front wheel where the rest are 24 in the front, yet ask the same price if not more
We think they put the motor there to make the assembly of the bike easier.
The room to step over is larger then you would think. The camera makes things look a bit smaller sometimes. 😉
@@EbikeEscape no matter what excuse you use it is a poorly designed bike, much better option out there .
Rad power bikes get worse with each release.
Annoying narrative. Rising pitch at the end of practically every SENTENCE ! Argh.
Trying to get better. Thanks for the constructive criticism.
A Worksman P.A.V.3 is better
We will look into Worksman trikes.
@@EbikeEscape I own 2 of them...they have many kinds and are the oldest bike maker in still building the USA ...and boy are the tough ....Kind of like the Harley-Davidson of the bicycle world ....I just upgraded one of mine was an electric E kit they made for them in particular ,a PAV 3
Too expensive for the market it’s aimed at. Also the coaster brake not much use to people with mobility issues. I see many crashes in the future.
There will be blood. These will fade into obscurity just as 3 wheel ATVs from the 70's did. They were banned due to injuries.
750W motor is not enough for a trike.
Why do you think that? Max speed is only 14 mph and it crushed the hill.
@@Robnord1what u want is a motorbike 👍😀
It's a trike, not a bike.
Awful customer service, awful company.
