If you asked God to dial up the personification of the ideal rapper (flow, vocal tone, speed, lyricism), he would be like, "Yo, it's Rakim...get that m#&^f%$r on the phone now!"
Rakim is my favorite rapper of all time. "Juice" is one of my favs. His voice is raw and gritty.❤🔥🔥. He doesn't share or objective women. That's a bonus. He just rhymes and tells a story.
Nice reaction. Rakim is your favorite rappers favorite rappers favorite rapper. He changed the game. Literally. There were a few guys around at that time that were starting to get intricate with wordplay and flow but Rakim, IMO, was the best. His smooth flow and word play still rival anybody in the game. And he's one of the greatest story tellers of all time. As evidence by this song. And don't sleep on Eric B. His deep, grimy, soul and jazz influenced beats are the perfect complement to Rakim's style. Do yourself a solid and go through the catalog. "Microphone Fiend", "Lyrics of Fury", "Mahogany", "I Ain't No Joke". Just make a list, close your eyes, and pick one. You can't go wrong. ✌🏾
YOUNG BRO,,WE WERE WATCHING YA CHANNEL ..RAKIM SAID YA FACE EXPRESSIONS ALONE,,SAID IT ALL/ HE HAS YA APPROVAL ...PEACE..FROM THE PAID IN FULL FAM../// AKA .FED.D
Rakim was so far ahead of everyone with his wording and rhyming no one could compete. Everyone had to step it up and that is how 70’s and early 80’s HiP HoP went from bubble gum rapper to conscious rappers and he … became THE GOD EMCEE!!!!
No one can put lyrics together like this and flow the way he does like THE GOD. And this is 1992! @3:14 “Shells lay around on the battleground Dead bodies are found throughout the town Tried to put shame in my game to make a name I'ma put it on a bullet, put it in your brain Rip the block like a buckshot Who cares where it goes, just keep the casket closed No remorse when a life is lost I paid my dues, paid the cost And my pockets are still fat Wherever I'm at, I get the welcome mat Even if my crew steep with one deep I attract attention, people like to peep So come say hi to the bad guy Don't say goodbye, I don't plan to die 'Cause I get loose and I got troops And crazy juice In control of many like Ayatollah Khomeini Hang out wit' Smith and Wesson, don't try to play me I'm at war a lot, like Anwar Sadat But no warning shot, my gun is warm a lot When I cook beef, the smoke will never clear Areas in fear but this here's severe Living life too close to the edge Hoping that I know the ledge.”
This is for a content creator of this video. The things that he saying in this song is meant to be a reflection of the stuff that happened in the movie kind of. It’s not an exact Playout, but it’s very similar in mentality
Nice reaction - love this era of proper rap/hip hop, none of that plastic gangster crap. I thoroughly recommend some Gil Scott Heron (many describe him as the godfather of hip-hop!!!) 🎶😎🙌👍
Twon Twon Twon ... if you're going to dive into Eric B and Rakim, start with Casualties of War, Follow the Leader, and Paid in Full. That said, Rakim is the best rapper of all time along with KRS-1 and Chuck D.
like you I like rap from the 80s and 90s. It was fresh and it was raw and it was good. Today's rap feels worn, sloppy and lazy. It really does not appeal much to me. It just does not have that sound or feel.
“KNOW THE LEDGE”=KNOWLEDGE
Pound for pound, arguably the greatest Rap song ever recorded.
How did I not know this?!!! Thank you and I agree!!!🙌🏽🤯🔥🔥🔥🎶
As far as I’m concerned, THE BEST Rap song of all time.
you're right man !
If you asked God to dial up the personification of the ideal rapper (flow, vocal tone, speed, lyricism), he would be like, "Yo, it's Rakim...get that m#&^f%$r on the phone now!"
I concur, friend.

“Shells lay around on the battleground
Dead bodies are found throughout the town
Tried to put shame in my game to make a name
I'ma put it on a bullet, put it in your brain
Rip the block like a buckshot
Who cares where it goes, just keep the casket closed
No remorse when a life is lost
I paid my dues, paid the cost
And my pockets are still fat
Wherever I'm at, I get the welcome mat
Even if my crew steep with one deep
I attract attention, people like to peep
So come say hi to the bad guy
Don't say goodbye, I don't plan to die
'Cause I get loose and I got troops
And crazy juice
In control of many like Ayatollah Khomeini
Hang out wit' Smith and Wesson, don't try to play me
I'm at war a lot, like Anwar Sadat
But no warning shot, my gun is warm a lot
When I cook beef, the smoke will never clear
Areas in fear but this here's severe
Living life too close to the edge
Hoping that I know the ledge.”
I like that they played this during one of the Breaking competitions during the Olympics.

I knew they were running, i was thingking tge club scene.
One of my all time favourite Rappers!
By far.
Yeah proof that you fuck with hip hop. You immediately did the head nod as soon as that beat hit. YOU CAN’T NOT HEAD NOD to a cold boom bap beat.
Knowledge is a great song

Before I saw this post I thought you meant doesn't shame or objectify. He probably doesn't do that either.
The MCs of old,a lot of them were scholarly. Prior to 1989 being a "Hard Rock" was not it. Those action and behaviors were not promoted before then.
