    Using white watercolor pigment creates a chalky, opaque look that can overpower the delicate transparency of your work. There is a much better approach - let me show you using this lily of the valley flower! :)

    One thing to add about using gouache is there are 3 different types of white, zinc, titanium and permanent. For adding highlights permanent is the most opaque, titanium can also work if applied thick but like zinc is mostly used for mixing with pigments.

      I can definitely give a 5 out of 5 on Chronos size 0 and 2 round and riggers in size 4 - excellent precision. Of course as you go up a few sizes the water load / control will always be better with 100% sable brush but I’ve been doing ok with Chronos sizes 4 and 6 there 😊

    I'm trying to learn the PROCESS better and something I've noticed in most demonstration videos is that the artists never say when they're using wet-in-wet or wet-in-dry and sometimes it's very difficult to tell because you never see application of water for wet-on-wet after the initial background foundation wash. Are all your "building" layers on the leaves wet-on-wet? I've watched your video on the techniques, but sometimes it's hard to identify them in real time for us beginners unless the artist vocalizes what they're using. I appreciate all you videos and have learned so much!

Does it matter which company, as I have a little portable Van Gogh half pan set? Also, living in Japan, some brushes are not easily available here . Do you know of any of the Japanese brushes companies, and if you do what would you recommend? ❤

    Great video! However, I want to add that this advice is only for beginners who don’t know what they’re doing. Once you gain more experience, every pigment, even black and white can be used to make great painting so it’s important not to use a pigment or technique just because others say so. For instance, white can be mix to make pastel tone such as lavender or add a bit of earth tone to create buff titanium hue. It’s important to understand how the pigments behave and decide what techniques or subjects fit it best than just to say ever use them in certain ways.

    Thank you for telling viewers not to use white watercolour. We were taught this at art school and I have always followed that advice. There are many ‘self taught’ artists on here and while their work is very, very good, when they are doing ‘tutorials’ aimed at complete beginners, most will say it’s ok to use white w/colour. It is bad advice and sets people up for failure I’m afraid and a lot will give up before they’ve really started ☹️

    • @AnnaBucciarelli
      @AnnaBucciarelli  Рік тому +4

      Absolutely! There is a fine line between saying there no rules in art, and artists should use whatever they want, and creating a scenario where a beginner may be extremely frustrated not knowing why they are getting wrong results. Thank you for sharing your experience! 💕

      @@AnnaBucciarelli my pleasure, I just get so annoyed with people giving poor advice. The same goes for using black w/colour paint. Like white, it is opaque and gives a very ‘flat’ and lifelessness to the piece leaving the person feeling as though they are at fault. I just want people to have a go and succeed and the best way to do that is to be as accurate as possible with information, because that is the real encouragement 😊
