Astrea manages an insane Stargate win in game one forcing Serral to tap out at 200 supply. Then he proceeds to not go Stargate in games 2-3.. why God why!?
Because it was Serral’s choice to rush hydra lurker in game 1, leading to an easier early game for Astrea, which means he can get to tempest faster. Once Astrea see Serral build a bunch of roach ravager in game 2,3, he know that he need as many stalker as possible or else Serral will run him over. 18:05 "you see, that is a demonstration of the Brood Lord Bugg. They're at the very edge of their range sometimes the broodlings get cold feet or smth roughly equivilant.." 💀
Well maxed out terran ghost mech has the same effect. It is more that Zerg is not really meant to trade efficiently in the late game without good positioning and picking the opponent apart a couple of units at a time. Sure, they could stand a buff, but Zerg is designed to throw armies away and replace them faster than their opponents can do the same and overwhelm them or to do hit and run via nydus worms.
@@electricitybombif swarm hosts cost half the supply they currently do, I’d agree. They eat your entire army supply and only have 1 niche function. If you want to lose quickly, all you have to do is build swarm hosts.
Protoss looks a lot better now. Maybe a tiny bit too strong. It’s a shame Zerg has to win early vs both Terran and Protoss or just lose to less efficient armies late. There’s very little comeback mechanics for Zerg except for ling run bys and nydas lurkers which are relatively easy to defend against. I do think serral messed up the first game with no vipers. The long ranged trades were just too much. Needed to get rid of the lurkers for mass brood, corrupter, viper, infestor.
Looks a lot better? They have to play a perfect game with less dead units like in Game 1. The Game 2 and 3, once the mistakes starts piling up, it's game over for Protoss.
What are you talking about? None of the races have a flying unit that can trade efficiently against both air and ground except mothership which toss can only have 1 of
@sun-does-shine battle cruiser, viking, liberator, tempest, Phoenix, carrier, mothership. All of these can attack land and air. They may not be the best ever, but they can do it and most are pretty decent at it-liberators being probably the weakest. But if you put any of those against Corruptors, they get outranged and out damaged, being useless unless they are right on top of their air enemy and have a large numbers advantage. Otherwise they just get relentlessly popped by basically everything else, land or air. Mutas can technically hit both but they're useless almost immediately once turrets and cannons come online, and have to be micro'd like crazy or they get popped by even a few Marines. Games like the first one in this series really show how tempests-which aren't considered fantastic either-stomp Corruptors with range, while also providing range and flexibility to take on ground units and defenses. Zerg lacks anything close, having to tie up massive supply in air-only Corruptors, but then unable to actually counter the Tempests due to their range.
@ also zerg has really strong anti air tools on their casters and imo the strongest dedicated air to air unit in corruptors. The reason the tempests worked so well in game 1 is because astrea’s army composition and control were top notch. Pro zergs beat tempest armies all the time
@@sun-does-shine nah. Lol just give Corruptors a weak ground attack that doesn't require they be immobile for ages so it's only useful against buildings that can't fight back. If you watch any commentator discussing Corruptors "tying up supply" is a big problem. All it takes is an enemy to pivot away from air and the zerg could have a big useless pile of dung in the air. They also lack range upgrades and get outranged by basically every other air unit. Not that they're the focus, but broodlords, the zerg equivalent to protoss carriers, are for some reason landlocked. Zerg lacks a flexible air unit that can at least hold its own against both land and air in the mid and late game. Again, don't need some uber dominant unit, just something on par with Protoss and Terran or at least doest just get shredded.
I still have to get used to Zealots moving as fast as stimmed Marines after charge is researched. As a Wings of Liberty player, that seems like an insane buff.
The Protoss late-game has always felt overwhelming. Nothing directly or effectively trades into a Protoss death ball - either you have to outmaneuver it and hope that the Protoss doesn't have a million cannons at home, or you have to be so far ahead on macro that you can afford to trade down into the death ball. Sure, Protoss units are expensive, but their 100-pop army beats any other 100-pop army. In some ways, you might say the Protoss, by design, is playing with 250 or even upwards of 300 pop cap.
I’ll like this strategy, building a strong defence and also overwhelming fire power while not committing to an army trade but instead hitting the enemy where it hurts - the economy. It’s giving me strong ‘the art of war’ vibes. wp
Agreed, PERFECT protoss game. THAT is how you should play to win tournies. no bullshit nerfs or buffs. most of the time all protoss needs is Clem to play them. Game 1, Astrea played out of his mind. What an insane game. I've been asking for so long why Toss doesn't abuse tempest more... maybe the 1 less supply was the answer! Like idk what Serral could have even done game 1 to stand a chance.
That game one was amazing. I want to see more of that protoss style. Game 2 was well executed by Astrea but Serral has seen that same strat alot before, even without the ling run by, Serral would've still won, he had a gold mine, was mining more and had Astrea cornered. Game 3 was just sad.
There really isn't any viable way to have an exciting unexpected game anymore. The 12 drones start killed early and mid. What they needed to do was to just get a number of drone that got rid of the time lapse before building the first supply. So 8 or 9 drones start. Instead : Cool first game though, good late game

Sure, Protoss units are expensive, but their 100-pop army beats any other 100-pop army. In some ways, you might say the Protoss, by design, is playing with 250 or even upwards of 300 pop cap.
Great early Christmas present! Thanks for all the content Winter and Merry Christmas.
P S. Go Astrea!
dude, you're great. thanks for the content.
FOURACLES! Pretty sure I heard that. Merry Christmas, Winter!
Thanks Winter, don't know what I'd do w/o my SC2 fix, you're the best!
I’ll like this strategy, building a strong defence and also overwhelming fire power while not committing to an army trade but instead hitting the enemy where it hurts - the economy. It’s giving me strong ‘the art of war’ vibes. wp
I love Serral, but I have never seen him be so dominated by anyone much less a Protoss, and an American at that!
I'm just in shock and awe.
that first game was the reason why i love protoss.
Good casting. Glasses joke was gold.
Agreed, PERFECT protoss game. THAT is how you should play to win tournies. no bullshit nerfs or buffs. most of the time all protoss needs is Clem to play them. But now a protoss main is proving that skill and brain power CAN beat the goat. NO MORE COMPLAINING for protoss. excellently and perfectly played Astrea, amazingly done!!
23:18 "That seemed like a fowl play" Riiiiiighht...
Queen nerf seems real
17:30 - Apparently that pit can eat storms
Holy sh** what a crazy first game by Astrea, wp, damn
Thanks for the great content for X-Mas! Best present I got :D
Winter, happy holidays! I think you’ve trained me to smash that like button even before you started your spiel.
wow Astrea is so exciting to watch!
I just realized that there’s a really high chance that Susan and Brenda are Winters neighbors and Winter is actually 56 years old… and that makes Jimmy the cabana boy
the two storms putting 90% of serrals corruptors beneath 10% health was the final straw.
daym never seen 14k bank agains serral...that was masterclass
That eagle in the into, rofl
1st game serral needed sir Richard and the boys, 10 swarm host would have been equally dirty,
GG on almost 200 hundred supply each!
That first game was insane
Oh wow.. That photo of Astrea looks like you Winter
Astrea did so well! I totally think there should be a counter for main buildings (hatcheries, command centeres, nexuses) killed and cancelled.
Protoss vs Zerg is my favorite matchup. So fun to watch
28:23 Are we gonna talk about that self kill?
Serrall is the most accomplish zerg of all time. Clem being the #1 Terran, and arguably a top 5 (maybe 3) protoss player as well makes him the best SC2 player of all time.
Serral carved up like a Christmas duck :D
Game 1, Astrea played out of his mind. What an insane game. I've been asking for so long why Toss doesn't abuse tempest more... maybe the 1 less supply was the answer! Like idk what Serral could have even done game 1 to stand a chance.
That game one was amazing. I want to see more of that protoss style. Game 2 was well executed by Astrea but Serral has seen that same strat alot before, even without the ling run by, Serral would've still won, he had a gold mine, was mining more and had Astrea cornered. Game 3 was just sad.
Someone better call Astreas parents because he was straight up bullying Serral
During second game the Shadows look weird. Not max settings?
There really isn't any viable way to have an exciting unexpected game anymore. The 12 drones start killed early and mid. What they needed to do was to just get a number of drone that got rid of the time lapse before building the first supply. So 8 or 9 drones start. Instead :
Cool first game though, good late game
Oh when the banes
go rolling in
Oh when the banes
go rolling iiiiin
Then I know
I'm playing Serral
Oh when the banes
go rolling in
One day, in the far-flung Utopian future, Zerg might have at least one real combat unit.
Game 1 was an absolute masterpiece.
For 1 sec, because of the thumbnail, i thought viggo mortensen started SC2 lol
man what in the actual F
Astrea took Serral to primary school man
impressive
Tempest + High Templar is the new Broodlord + Infestor
27:59 Protoss blue algae confirmed
Last game was just toooooo adamant on tosses part, that blink into zerglings over and over again, was such a bronze move for such a good player :(
I think if Serral had a few Vipers in the first game he could have whittled away the Tempests and then just done whatever he does for the rest.
How many time did that 6 o'clock base get destroyed in game 1?
Honestly, no shame not leading with stargate again, played his ass off, could be he didnt feel he had the mental fortitude to replicate that again, mad respect for knowing his limits (if that was the intent)
oracle, moreacles, fouracles, oh my
Merry Christmas! Happy birthday jesus
