If you put a 1 1/8” front and 7/8” rear sway bar (ADDCO) and KYB gas charged shock on all four corners you’ll be amazed at how well this will handle the corners. I did this to my 67 Tbird coupe and it went from being dangerous on curves to flat road hugging handling!
Not just an LTD, but a brougham too. 68 Ford looks so cool, handle so poorly. Ford full size cars went for ride, Chrysler handling (such as it was), GM in between. But still there's got to be something fun about waiting to see if the outside front bumper touches down.
I actually have a 1968 Ford LTD XL BROUGHAM with the 390 (the 'XL's we're the first with front disc brakes of all the full size cars that ford made) that I used to race at Perris Auto Speedway in democross and now it's a MAD MAX/ZOMBIE APOCALYPTIC themed car that I've taken to Wasteland Weekend...... I bought it about 10 years ago in about the same condition for a round $400.00 and it has been fun to say the least!!
my uncle Had a 67 ford wagon. with a 390. and he won a bet that he could climb bumkin hill in so. ill flat out with out bloe=wing the engine, He made it over the top of the hill passing 90 mph when he did.
LTD was a top of the line Galaxie. LTD is short for Limited as in Limited Edition. Had many Galaxies and LTD’s in the family. We had car shops my whole life and I am 60 this year. The 390 was a fun motor. That car is a LTD hard top (no center post) with vinyl roof.
I had one of these. It was surprisingly fast. But on the other side of the coin it was getting arounnd 10 mpg on a good day. And it was rough on motor mounts. I went thru a set per year. All in all I loved it.
The purported power level indicates a high compression engine with a 4v carburetor. I don't think the driver is accustomed to an automatic choke. Also, the chrome trim on the brake pedal indicates power front disc brakes. Among the differences (in 1968) between this LTD on the one hand, and the Galaxies and Custom 500s on the other; grille, hidden headlights, vertical bar on the taillights, opera lights on the C pillar, and interior trim. The XL can be thought of as a sporty LTD; same grille, taillights, and hidden headlights, front bucket seats, while available only in sportroof and convertible, . An XL-only feature was the five slanted chrome strips on the fender behind the turn signal. The owners manual claimed an available 427, but none are known. Some had 428s, but the most common engine was the 390-2v with 265 horsepower. I've seen a few with three-on-the-tree, but none with a four-speed. Replacement tanks hold 25 gallons. A trunk big enough for the Mafia to take several guys for a ride. Stock tire was a G78-15, or 205/75-15 metric; not all suspensions from that era were radial tuned. It was possible to put radials on suspensions tuned for bias ply, but not vice versa. I learned the hard way that a wheel for a drum brake car WILL NOT fit a disc brake car; it will bind on the calipers.
@@jaydowwg8150, I read the owner's manual for my '68 Galaxie 500, which included the LTD. The stock engines were 240 (Custom 500 and Galaxie 500), 302, 390-2v, 390-4v, and 428-4v. A 427-4v was listed, but none were known. Most had an automatic transmission, and a few had a three-speed manual. A four-speed manual was available, but I'm not aware of any.
About 20 years ago my dad bought a 1 owner 68 LTD two door, gold with white vinyl top from the original owners son inlaw for $100 for the drivetrain out of it. Thing had like 220,000 miles on it all original. Looking back, it was way too solid of a car to be parted out but too late now. I've looked long and hard at these things the past 20 years and seen exactly three total gold with white vinyl top. It seems to be a very rare color combination.
Front and rear anti sway bar upgrades, better shocks, larger brakes, 16" wheels and better tires with stiffer sidewalls, lower it down an inch or two...then put her on a diet, use lighter materials to save a couple hundred lbs
You may very well be the first person in history to put on a helmet to to drive a 68' LTD !!
I have a 67' by the way,, and I love it !
Funniest comment ever! 🤣🤙🏼
First year with the great C6 trans!
@@paulrinehart4262 I think 66' was the first year for the C6.

My Dad bought a 1968 LTD hardtop with the 390, I was 18 and loved driving that car, it was lime gold with the white vinyl top . 😊
My dad bought a '68 Ltd 2 Dr hardtop 390. I loved it. I was 18. It was dark highland green. It had great build quality.
Awesome run! Looked like it was ready to tip over a few times!! My first car was a 1969 Marquis. Same idea!!
My parents had a 68 country squire with the 4barrel 390. Comfortable ride, could haul a lot of stuff and tow a house. We loved it.
I could swear that old Ford is smiling!!!
Great video!!

Good Info! 👍🏼
half the fun of racing these land yachts is that they were never meant to be raced. makes for an incredibly fun experience
My Dad had one of these. Pretty cool car.
Or, it could just be left alone to be the wonderful old classic that it is. It's only original once.
I have a 68 Galaxie 500 four door 390 powered Hard top in the uk and i love it.
Do some of them come with a 302 . Or is the 1968 Ford Galaxy 500 stock with a 390??

The NASCAR boys took such cars to the race track all the time back in the day.
Sounds awesome too!!

I had one. It surprises other cars at stoplights
@@mikekokomomike ,beautiful cars
I own this car now 😃 🙋🏼♂️
Nice Car... They don't make them like that anymore.
Raised white letter tires on a land yatch. This car come from the midwest?
Damn it needs sway bars lol
no sway bars makes for 100x the fun
Those who bought a new LTD back in the day said it stands for Long Term Debt lol
I have a 68' Ford Galaxie 500 4 door sedan. Can you help me with it? It doesn't run and I don't have much space to work on it.
Email us, maybe we can figure something out and get it running again.

We had a lot of fun that day. When’s the next track day?
Makes you wonder why his other vehicle broke down lol

Sounds like a Swedish accent. :)
100% svensk.. 👍🏼
First thing i thought of was that swedish chef from the Muppet Show. 👨🏼🍳
LTD stands for Limited …. Limited to 138,000 in 1968
Do uou know what kind of rims those are? Thanks
Those are the stock wheel covers that were available I believe
Probably ran better after the whole run .
He sounds like a swede….🙂
Don't worry about all the gay fruit fitted to cars these days, this beast did the job and some
Def not a muscle car
LTD stands for "Limited" 🙂
Yeah that's what I thought..
Considering your line of work, I think you might find the word “sedan“ to be quite useful.
