Originally telecast on November 26, 1950.
The fourth of Bob's five "Frigidaire" specials for NBC during 1950, as seen in the Sunday night time period "THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR" was presented [8-9pm(et)].
No Frigidaire commercials in this version, though.

This era of Bob Hope shows how talented he was. Later he just sort of coasted, not very funny.

Hope wound up so rich and apathetic that he would barely phone it in.

He probably should have cut way back once he was past 70 or 75. After that Hope seemed to value amiability over innovation and relevance. Nobody's beat him for sheer staying power except maybe George Burns and in our time, Seinfeld and Larry David. And their shtick, despite being good, gets old too. Honorable mention for Jay Leno, who continues to plug away and entertain.@@akrenwinkle

@@dmiller1000 Johnny Carson had a very long career. He wasn't a star as long as Hope or Burns, but he never became a nostalgia act. He was as current in 1992 as he was in 1962. He didn't rest on his laurels either, like, say Sinatra, who knew if he just showed up and croaked some songs from cue cards, it would get raves. True, Carson wasn't a nice person, but aside from Jack Benny, which successful comedian was?

As the 1980's went on I thought Letterman became more significant than Carson, who could have soldiered on for a few more years but would have become increasingly less relevant to the larger culture. Carson, Letterman, and Leno all had a fairly good sense of when to exit the daily grind. @@akrenwinkle

@@dmiller1000 I believe that Carson believed Letterman should have been his successor, not Leno. I can see why.
