    Hey Doc,
    So I am late to the party, but I just picked up my Rachio at Costco last week. I work in Software and the open API was the biggest selling point for me.
    You can set up your single button press and run schedule very easily in an automation app called IFTTT (If this then that) Also takes just a few minute to set triggers like if 90 + degrees, run relief schedule.
    You may have already heard of this by now. Either way, I really appreciate you videos.

      How do you use this with IFTTT

    Just ordered the gen 2 based on your video to replace my rainbird controller. Thanks for all the informative videos you produce. Love your channel but you're costing me money!!

    Great video Doc. I made my nest non learning as well because the learn function messed up my whole schedule. Very frustrating.
    Been looking at getting something I can control with my phone from a remote location. Good solve with the quick run.

    Got the Rachio over the winter. Appreciate the advice Doc ! I'll be adding that as soon as I'm up and running

    You could setup a schedule to do what you want and have that run when you want. Rachio also allows you to run each zone independently and you set the time length

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  5 років тому +1

      That's what happens when you don't watch the video. :) Setting up a FAKE schedule is the solution. FYI the manual run has to be programmed EACH time you run it.

  • @bigredwag
    @bigredwag 5 років тому +6

    Create a "schedule" inclusive of all the zones you want to run on demand. Then open app, select schedule, hit quick run. Done

      Lol, I obviously commented before the end of the video.

    Rachio is perfect for me. My phone has all those features. Even if I am not home, I can turn it on if I want too.

    May want to add that the newest version does do that.

    I own "Rain Machine" sprinkler system. I am able to set up different times and days to automatically run. It also always you to manually using your phone to turn on your preset conditions immediately.

    since you like to run it when you want to, you should have gotten the Hydrawise by Hunter. It does let you runs all zones for the preset time or you can input a time, it's very flexible and less than $100.

    Since I don’t use my sprinkler system much, I keep mine unplugged. It has a mind of its own and will randomly run a cycle even though it is in the off position. Been meaning to replace it, just haven’t taken the time to research a new one.

    Hey Doc, I have the Rachio Gen 2, when you open the app there is a quick run at the bottom and you can set the time by zones then when you want to run you hit quick run, select zones to run and start. Fairly same process though

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  5 років тому +1

      Correct... but each time you have to set up the zones and times. Do the "fake schedule" and it's a one button run for all. That's all I really needed. :)

    So it took you 3 minutes to fix this? Haha. The weather intelligence has worked great for me.

    If you read the instructions or watch the tutorials everything you say in the first 5 minutes is null. You can do exactly what you complain about from your phone. My rachio has been great since install and would recommend to others.

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  5 років тому +1

      Wrong... there is NOT a one button QUICK RUN for ALL stations. If you click quick run, you have to go and change the run time for each station. hence... set up a schedule and put it on pause. Watch the video.

    • @PatrickWitherow

      @@HowTowithDoc mine has a green QUICK RUN button on the "Home' screen. It then allows me to select from either my 'Zones' or my 'Schedules'. I select a schedule and it runs ALL stations in that schedule when I want it to. You might need to update your app.

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  5 років тому

      Mine has it too... but you have to set each station run time. Try the fake schedule. It's quicker.

    The hunter hydrawise system i have has a “remote” option that allows you to do run all zones with the click of a button as long as you are on the local network and not connected through the cloud

    I did not have the Quick Run button with the Rachio 3 after creating the new schedule but there is one on the home page that shows the device. There is a blue play button on the bottom right that might get the job done as long as it lets me choose the schedule. I created a Test Mode schedule to run about three minutes for each zone so my irrigation guy can check my system since there is a leak. Both that schedule and my normal schedule are disabled for now. If I hit that play button then I don't know which system will run. I may just have to manually go zone to zone for him

    Doc you have the wrong controller, I have an Orbit B-Hyve controller it works great. I can press one button on my phone and run all or any zone I want. It has a manual button. I am on the road flying often and the weather aspect works well for me. If it is raining or forecasted to rain or high winds it will postpone the watering. If I am on the road and rain was forecasted and the watering was postponed and it did not actually rain.
    I can check my weather station and see if it did rain and how much. If I need to water I hit the one button on my phone anywhere in the world and starts watering. If I want to confirm it is watering I look at my security cams.

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  5 років тому

      Rachio also has the manual modes as you stated... however, each time you open manual mode you have to set the TIMES for each station to run. Hence... the true no ONE BUTTON run I was looking for.

    The first full month that I had the Rachio Gen2 up and running on its own it cost $300 in water, real big savings there, and got me in trouble with the water board. Rachio is a dumb as it's products. Plus it has to be connected to the "Cloud" to work. The Rainmachine doesn't. Last week when Rachio's systems went down none of their units world wide would work.

    5GHz is faster than 2.4GHz but has shorter distance. Put your stationary streaming devices on 5GHz and anything that needs distance from the router than doesn't need "streaming" speeds such as your sprinkler controller on 2.4Ghz.

    Boss im big fan on your love your yard but the hole point of having smart sprinkler controller you set it up on your phone and it will work that way no need to walk to the controller but yet here I am working on my inlaws sprinkler and my father inlaw thinks the same way you do lol

      I know exactly how much rain I have gotten over the past 30 days, and manually control from wherever I am. Also have two systems. Most need the scheduling, I don't. Manually inspect every morning.
