I don't know about america, but I've seen this artstyle since I was in primary school in Norway. I've always hated it. I found the proportions so alienating and the flatness so uninspiring. Many my age are the same. We remember how shocked we were when we saw old 50s commercials that were painted in a realistic style or saw anime art. Very different to the soulless alegria.
oh my gyatt another norwegian also coming from a 6th grader we dont see these alot anymore but it still exists in school obvi :33 (there was way more art of that sort when i was in like 4th grade) we see way more actual detailed art now
I see this style and I feel drained. I feel like I'm somehow empathetically tied to the unfortunate designer who was forced to draw that up in Illustrator while a beak-nosed boss hovered over their shoulder like "Now remove all individuality ... Perfect. Next."
Once i got a job to design a logo for an aquarium shop, with no clear directive, i made 10 of them: 5 has texts with fish imagery, 3 is their shop name shaped like a fish, 1 is a simple pictogram of two fishes and 1 is just their shop name in Bebas Neue font on a black rectangle background. They picked the last one. I kid you not. People goes on and on about oversimplification but from my personal experience, simple is modern and people love modern even if they're soulless.
Alegria *sounds* like a font, and would taste like those stupid free drawing apps on the app store, which have been dumbed down for the average user so much, that a piece of paper would be more advantagous.
@@simaogoncalves07 Considering a lot of random simplistic words from different languages are used in English speaking media to make things sound special when they’re usually absolute garbage… it’s a VERY valid comment.
As a Graphic Designer, (retired as of 2020) who had training at The School of Visual Arts, twenty years ago, in the late 90s and early Y2K, all students learned proper use of typography and use of images and concepts and applied them to real world applications. Social Media, Technology, Mobile Devices, and Social Inclusiveness, Global, and Nationalism, have changed how designers have communicated to the public. Designers have become public servants to Corporations. There are still good designers out there.
I am a failed graphic designer which now works in a callcenter with a lot of other failed artists and designers doing a bs job. It’s almost kinda comedic. I mean I like to eat and not be homeless. So I wrote about 500 applications and never got a job after graduating. But I become more and more aware that my style simply was too dark, brutalist and difficult for most corporate mainstream companies. Maybe if I had sold my soul and made something happy and shallow they would have hired me. It has all become so corporate and the dream of expressing oneself is fundamentally dead. Maybe graphic design is dying i don’t know. But this artstyle is the first symptom of the death of creativity and AI will be the next one and maybe the last blow. Goodbye.

Absolutely hilarious video 😭 So I’m an example of said graphic designers. I specialize in illustration to the point that I originally wanted to be an animator (rip). This stock style is the bane of my existence as well, mostly just because it’s been overused to hell. There’s no visual diversity within companies branding nowadays and it’s embarrassing
Me watching this video at 2x speed to save time has been completely cancelled out by how many times I paused at all the pictures and jokes. 6.9/10 editing, looking forward to more.
Theres a disingenuousness to this art style and the organizations that use it. It is mind numbing, its like the visual version of hearing Muzak during a 35 minute hold with planet fitness - but worse. It is the face of a machine of hypocrisy, false moral superiority, 'inclusiveness' etc.
13:02 even just looking at the original creators art for a few seconds I can tell it already looks so much better than what corporations put out. They all look like cheap imitations kinda. The style also reminds me of what is used on the Kurtzgast channel (sorry if I spelled it wrong) but the difference is it is executed well and looks nice. The simplified shapes are there but the shading makes all the difference in his videos.

It's kind of tragic that the majority of artists who make their living that way are being told to deliberately make their art lifeless and uncontroversial, to make it seem like no human was involved in the process at all in an attempt to appeal to as wide an audience as possible by appealing to no one specifically. Makes me appreciate it more as a hobby and glad I don't have any restrictions placed on my creations by anyone else for my livelihood.
