Today the Lord took me to deuteronomy 25 and after reading it, I didn’t really understand 17 onwards and asked for the Lord to lead me to a teaching, to help me understand.
Well He is faithful to hear my prayer and He led me here 🙏
4 years ago The Lord new i and others would seek this explanation and you allowed Him to work through you to give us revelation.

Thank you for these insights. I am a childless widow, and shudder as to what could have happened to me in those times. Marrying late hubby's brother was not an option as he was already married; it might have been a distant cousin that I would get stuck with. But I guess they learned not to put her through what Tamar went through.
Also, the mentioning of corporal punishment; does this passage confirm how spanking laws are in Canada, which are unique in the world? I wonder if the US considered adapting those laws, or similar?

It is hard to understand these laws God often says have no pity and I know there is a good reason for it but to us in our day and culture it sounds so harsh - especially when someone does something on accident. Like Deut 25:11 I mean does the wife mean to grab the guy by his genitals? It could just happen in a scuffle. Then bam her hand is cut off.
Deut 25.11-12 is not one for the fridge 😂
