This installment the Dirt City Chronicles time machine whisks you back to a simpler time. To when cell phones were literally the size of bricks and service cost .25 per minute. How ya’ like them apples? ‘Burque lowfi legends, The Ant Farmers do double duty including a ditty about Elvis Presley diddling someone’s momma. It’s all in good fun. Remember Treadmill? not the one gathering dust in the garage but the early 90s Albuquerque band. Treadmill, banged out two albums of grungy alternative rock then relocated to Seattle and predictably, they were never heard from again.
The Memphis P Tails sport one of the best names ever for a band, they were barroom legends in Albuquerque and for all I know they may still be out there playing at your local VFW. Lizard House from Santa Fe was led by Aarron Hamre, who later established himself on the Austin, Tx. music scene as a solo act. The Zots were “Burque’s first 90s band to sign with a major label (RCA) sadly they got lost in a corporate shuffle and dropped after their first album. The Zots would sign with a lesser label, put out a disappointing second album and then fade into obscurity or day jobs, I do miss the go-go dancers.
Let’s switch gears: what do Bring Back Dad, Bigdamncrazyweight and The Honeys have in common? Scott Parsons of course. This veteran guitar slinger has been at the heart of more local bands than anyone else I can think of other than Joey Gonzales (but he’s a drummer) The latter half of this mess is the better half, no hollaback girls just sweet vocals and crunchy riffs.
