Proliferate is a mechanic that lets you add counts to permanents and players if they already had counters. It's surprisingly flexible, capable of disrupting the opponent and improving your board state at the same time. In this video, I look at the Proliferate cards that have done the most in competitive Magic: the Gathering.

Proliferating a Chalice of the Void so it's no longer useful is hilarious.

Doesn't work in response to the trigger, tho; not worded correctly.

It's funny that Yawgmoth has protection from himself, because he sure didn't in lore.

As a pauper storm player, it can get even better: with two pentaprisms in play, every two mana proliferate spell is free, so you can often win in one turn when you go off

Hey just wanted to drop a comment saying I dig the new format! Summarizing the topic of the video before getting into the intro or scoring system is a good.

Proliferate is such a fun and versatile mechanic that's only getting more interesting as more cards with counters are printed.

Yawgmoth is probably my favorite card ever, its just sooo much fun to spread those counters out while drawing cards.

Proliferate, then proliferate again. Contagion Engine was always one of my favorites.

Those scars of mirrodin cards bring me great memories of my favorite time playing magic

Ahhh proliferate, I've not ran it too often, but I do run Karn's Bastion whenever my deck has a lot of counters, and that's a proliferate card. I'm actually surprised that it isn't on the list though. Is it just an EDH card? I would have thought a tiny hit in mana for a land that proliferates would be worth it. All I know is, I don't think I'll be seeing it on "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)" any time soon.

It essencially costs 5 mana to proliferate (4mana plus tapping it), so it is pretty slow for most formats, sadly. Great card, though. I run it in commander, too

Oh how I've waited for you to ask if I wanted to proliferate ❤

Contentious Plan, while not competitive, is a card I sadly got rid of a handful of. Not only is a common for a few bucks but in my planeswalker deck would've been great. Didn't think that one through.

it always feels a bit weird when the #1 has minimal to do with the actual video.
yeah, yawgmoth can technically proliferate, but that is hardly his primary function. he's just a strong card that might proliferate every once in a while, lol.

Because the only 60-card formats it's ever been legal in are Legacy and Vintage and she doesn't see play there for the most part.

If Yawgmoth didnt have the proliferate side, people would still jam 2/4.... Its rather gross how good Thran Physician is.

Grist, Voracious Larva's own text uses "it" (the other new flipwalkers use "he" or for Tamiyo "she"), which is pretty much the only canonical answer me have to Grist's gender rn - neither

    • @TheLuckySpades
      @TheLuckySpades Місяць тому +5

@@RowanNagy97the lore sheet from the bundle refers to grist with "she" as have the comics in the past. Weird that they make the other flipwalkers refer to themselves with genered pronouns when their usual default is "it" (as in referring to the cards thenselves, not the characters)
