If you're new here welcome! My name is Laura Mullen Vermilye and I am an iron casting metal artist. Being a cast iron artist is an interesting - and at times tough journey, but the rewards far exceed all challenges. While working with cast iron to create my art I am exposed to an amazing community of artists who are as dedicated and passionate as I am. The cast iron art culture is a major influence in my life and on my work and I want to share this artistic adventure with anyone who is interested in seeing hard working people make amazing art with a hot and dangerous material. To do this, I make vlog style videos on this channel that chronicle the artwork that I am currently making and my journeys in Metalsmithing and iron casting. In between casting and metal art videos you may also see some behind the scenes footage of me roaming around the heart of the Midwest and the Ozarks. Thank you to all you folks that are as interested in my small metal project as you are in my cast iron art! Thanks for tunin' in, and as always - I love you.

It is interesting to see the progression of the Phen wheel. I was glad Laura was closer to the action with her camera, than I was in the crowd. Great pour and great video coverage.

Hey, lets make molten iron fly everywhere with a spinning wheel, said Laura
...and everyone agreed that's a really fine idea
Danger always makes it more fun

Well that was an interesting demonstration. Brought back memories of accidents in the foundry, specifically the time that I was called to replace the bull ladle pourer at the cupola. First heat and it was running late, no one mentioned that the ladle top was green (not dry), so I rolled the ladle over hard as normal. The lid lifted about 4" and molten iron sprayed up around the edges. Since the ladle was tipped forward I was not burned, but others gathered around were, all minor thank goodness. The Pour Master was distressed since it was his fault, the heat was delayed a bit more, I wound up pouring the bull until 7 pm. 12 hour day.

These people have clearly never had to weld overhead in a confined space before! Lol

Yeah, I have poured iron and air arced/welded overhead in a confined space. Hard choice. Good to see you here Brian.
