I didn’t know that Agatha’s father was American, bringing a non-insular dimension and openness to other cultures. I love the little bits of social commentary where she spoofsBritish unconscious cultural superiority (Poirot ). Or is that just English colonial superiorness I resent as one of the colonised outposts of Empire. Now it would be called racism ...a whiter shade of pale;
I do see your point. Then again David Suchets art may have been compromised, albeit though love & respect. Mr Suchet has proved his brilliance is his own and gifts it to Agatha Christie. Two amazing people that inspired with the same goal having never met is fortunate for both. They earned their own independent recognition.
I've seen many actors portray the famous Belgian detective and I've read many of Mrs. Christie's books. To my mind, no on epitomizes Hercule half as well as does Mr. Suchet. Well done, sir.
What a delicious treat I have just found here! And just weeks after Sir Suchet was knighted. And then I realize that up to now, I have never seen him smile or seen his teeth! Ha! Thank you!!!
Just like quality films and music, quality books never date. Thanks Dame Agatha for all the hours of enjoyment with your great books. Thanks also to David Suchet for bringing Poirot to life so well.
I have always loved Suchet, and the Poirot series was a study diet in my home growing up. It wasn't until I was an adult that I actually read her novels, and I fell in love with Agatha. I understand her disappearance, her love for her mother, the heartache life can bring. Thank you for sharing the deep parts if her life.
Suchet was never Poirot for me. Lacked Poirot's humour and humanity. Too much method, not enough Suchet. Peter Ustinov was my favourite. And I'll never forgive BBC for the total balls they made of 'Murder on the Links', my favourite. And I've read them all umpteen times. Chacun a son gout.
The first Agatha Christie book I read was "Sparkling Cyanide" , at the age of 8 . After that I continued to read her books, several of them many times over. She's my absolute favourite writer. I think the reason she has outshone and outsold other crime writers is because of the liveliness of her writing , the vein of subtle humour that runs throughout most of her books, the very short paragraphs that stylized her writing, and her brilliant observation of human nature and events. It was so heart warming to see David Suchet's documentary on Mrs. Christie. Almost everyone agrees that David was the best and most appropriate actor to portray Hercule Poirot. And in this presentation , his efforts to understand the real Agatha appear very sincere.
Thank you John for uploading this wonderful documentary. David Suchet is a man with a golden heart. He is so beautiful and his magnificent eyes reflect pure love, compassion and understanding for everyone he encounters. He is so loving and kind, a compassionate human being. It really was no coincident that he became Hercule Poirot. His kindness and love touches many many hearts of human beings in different age groups for a very long time through Hercule Poirot films. It is a very healing experience to watch Hercule Poirot at work. David Suchet´s kindness heals people just as they are watching the film. And many of them do not even realize that there really is healing that is taking place just as they are enjoying watching Hercule Poirot as he is solving mysteries. I personally have seen all these films as they were first shown, and many times after that. And, in middle age, I am so happy watching them again. I enjoy so much being in the company of David Suchet and Hugh Frasier. It makes me so happy. I just know David Suchet would know exactly what I mean. Love and compassion is his mission. Even in this film, you could see as they were walking on the beach, how the lovely dog invited David and Agatha Christie autobiographer to join his play. My heart just jumped with joy as David did see the dog, and accepted the dog´s invitation. That gesture shows what a kind and loving man he is.
Such a heart touching and mesmerizing video! Thank you David and ITV for giving us a great opportunity to understand the "Queen of Crime" so closely. She is really one of the greatest novelist of all time.
As much as I love David Suchet, in all honesty, I cannot agree. My most favourite Poirot is the literary one, the one Agatha Christie created in her books. For me, no actor managed to match the Hercules Poirot who came out of Dame Agatha's typewriter. Still - I admire David Suchet.
A very interesting documentary about a brilliant writer by a great actor. David Suchet made Poirot come to life and made me a fan of Agatha Christie for life. Suchet's Poirot and Agatha's novels continue to inspire me to this day.
I’m so happy to have found this. I think I’ve read everything Ms Christi wrote ... more then once. Mr. Suchet has a lovely voice and is such a good actor.
Such a masterpiece. Perfection. Would not be without our beloved Poirot so eloquently telling her story. His love for Poirot and Agatha comes shining through as always. Thank you Mr. Suchet.
So bittersweet to see the footage of David Suchet meeting paperback cover artist Tom Adams. Tom was such a dear, sweet man, very talented and generous with his time. I miss him so much. Rest in Peace dear fellow.
David Suchet as Hercule Poirot is inimitable. I love that he appreciates the character, unlike some of the people who have played Sherlock Holmes or even James Bond. I'm grateful he got to do all of the stories and novels. Even Jeremy Brett couldn't do that due to health reasons. Only Clive Merrison as Holmes on BBC Radio comes close.
i adore David Suchet character portrayal of Hercule Poirot. I have watched every episode over the 25 years. And i was a wee down cast when Hercule Dies.
Greenway originally owned by Otho and Catherine Gilbert, my husband's gggrandparents. Catherine second husband Raleigh, parents of Sir Walter Raleigh. Would love to visit one day.
Out of all the Hercule Poirot, no one, absolutely no one could portray the funny little man, as described by Lady Agatha Christie, could play the part as true and could do any of her stories could do her justice. (and I've seen many different Hercule). So disappointed that there aren't more as the last Curtain, just about broke my heart.
@@coastalseasider4634 OMG, I've seen it again after the first time and I had sworn I'd never watch it again. It broke my heart again. The tissues were coming out of the box so fast that my face was puffed up after it finished. There are some movies or shows that tear your heart and this was one of them. Regardless of how many times I've watched any of Agatha Christie's stories, one always learns something new every time. Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes are my ultimate favorites.
This is my 2nd or 3rd watching. It is very well portrayed story of a lovely mysterious woman. They report what a happy childhood she had but all the photos show her as very sad and lonely.
One of my favorite authors I used to borrow her books every Friday looking forward every weekend this was the time of my student days I wish times stood still Agatha Christie rest in peace 🎉🎉😊
I loved reading Agatha Christie novels in High School and was reminded of her work by an episode of Doctor Who ( of all things ) called The Unicorn And The Wasp . That episode changed the details ( understatement ) of Mrs Christie's disappearance and restarted my love of her work. I easily found The ABC Murders in my closet and dug in to it. Sadly most of my teenaged Christie purchases were lost in a house fire so I find them at my local library these days.
Fabulously done. Ta, David Suchet, for giving a peek inside the life of Agatha and the making of a writer.. Love Agatha's line at the end, pleasures of being alive recording, "Ya can't want to die when ya feel like that"! Joie de vie!
I love the fact that the entire documentary is underpinned by the soundtrack of the Poirot TV-Show. That mellow-jazz soundtrack lends such depth and gravity to everything. I can watch paint-dry with that soundtrack in the background and feel very 'artistic' doing it.
Saranne Natalie LOL..ur Right, they dont hv time for reading some Quality thing such as Agatha's Books...they loved to running around with their pants..

Thankyou David Suchet for this wonderful peek inside the life of the amazing Agatha Christie. Such a talented writer and what an interesting life she had. My late brother and I loved watching you as Poirot. Love from Colleen in Australia 🇦🇺 ❤

I only wish Agatha Christie could have lived to see David Suchet as Poirot! She would be extremely pleased and satisfied, I believe.
Hurrah! Great thoroughness
Simple?clear might be a better one word to explain her accessibility
Goodness the parallels with recent royal women pursued by the press(tabloids and photographers) are stark. Women as prey.

I can't admire David Suchet enough. He's a brilliant actor and seemingly a lovely and humble person.
He's a legend because of his Poirot, pure brilliance!!!

I agree with you entirely Sheila.David Suchet does portray Mrs Agatha Christie 's Hercule Poirot exceptionally well.
David Suchet is such a true gentleman. A true British gentleman beside being a great actor and talent.
I had the privilege to meet and speak with him at length a few years back. He was gracious, kind, and so clever.

Pippin Baker So true. For me, though, it is his eyes. His eyes are beautiful and he tells Poirot's secrets with them in some of the episodes.

Absolutely wonderful, I love the fact that mystery surrounds her still. David Suchet's presentation is exquisite.
It's about the car crash. And the rumours about her husbands affair.
How absolutely lovely. This was a joy to watch.
