How are so few people seeing this??? These 2 are good together.
It JUST came up on my feed. Which is...weird.
That Pyro, Quill sequence is like getting a gun pulled on you and then in response someone pulls a butter knife
41:30 More to the point (I'm sure you'll get there later) the entire finale scene with Wolverine walking towards Jean and the dialogue used. Only would have meant something if said by Cyclops. A callback to the Alkali Lake scene being Jean releasing the hold on Cyclops eyes and *him* delivering the fatal blow.
One thing I love about these X-Men movies, is that they technically aren't dated as they are meant to take place in the respected time. In a few more years, it will be hard to have Magneto not be over his 100's due to his WWII backgrounds
I was also totally convinced Cyclops was coming back by the end when I first saw the film, back in its theatrical run. It was so jarring to realize finally that he had really just been murdered for no real reason in the lake scene.
So hype to see this drop public. Love seeing you two together, I’m ready for everythingversity lol
Leech took away Juggernaut's super strength and super durability so hitting that wall at full speed head first totally took him out. I'm surprised it took you guys this long to get that.
Lol ya… I think it took them that long cause juggernauts not a mutant in the comics
So that's where that Juggernaut line came from. Thanks! For a long time I wondered what the big deal was with that line.
These two are so good glad they became friends and made a show (now multiple)
This podcast deserves a comic con panel
Honestly you guys are making the last stand sound better, I kinda want to watch it now lol
Caved in and became a patreon member for Spiderversity. Great fun chemistry between you both.
I came from comic pop. Excited to get through all these episodes with Sal
I love anything sal is in 😂😂 bring this podcast on
Hope yall cover The Gifted, such an underrated gem.
That would have been an amazing ending teamup Sal wrote there.....
Never apologize for your wonderful tangents, guys.
Just found these and am excited to watch the rest!
I actually like this movie more than the second half of X-Men origins Wolverine, X-Men Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix
Honestly, I feel like if they grounded the X-men and took the whole "Phoenix is just a locked away piece of Jean" angle or even went the space god angle, the trick to making the stakes better without all of the needing to turn the X-men into a space opera is make Jean SUPER powerful and the X-men become a publicly known team. During the previous movie, the X-men fought some crazy despot type of mutant or just the sentinel factory/mastermold and Jean went full Phoenix and ANNIHILATED the place, but also went a bit overboard. And that puts the X-men into the cross hairs of the Avengers. Because they don't feel comfortable with Jean being THAT powerful and just running around doing whatever she wants. The AvX movie would then lead straight into the Dark Phoenix movie. Or it could be the climax of the Dark Phoenix Saga. Like, instead of fighting the Shi'ar Royal Guard, they fight the Avengers. It's almost like mixing Dark Phoenix, House of M and AvX together.
Part of the superhero movie problem is that we don’t get enough good villains. The reason Batman and Spider-Man are so popular is because have great rogue’s gallery. Develop enough villains for our heroes to fight, once they establish good villains it helps us create buzz for the hero
This podcast is dope and you guys have amazing rapport and back and forth.
The movie? X-men events (Inferno, Fall of the Mutants, AvX, Messiah Complex, etc).
The show? Academy X. Tells the character work and minor villains of the team.
Example: Academy X introduces the concepts of mutants being born at an increased rate now. Introduces the handful of mutants that are Xavier's students (mcu version of the og5). Their struggles with their powers and the clashes of their personalities while also trying to play goodwill ambassadors to the new mutants they meet. Eight 30 episodes. The villains used are Unus the Untouchable and The Vanisher.
great episode!
I was shocked that there wasn't rain in the funeral scene of this movie, every dumb cliched movie has to have rain at a funeral otherwise how is the audience supposed to know it's sad,
Gotta watch daredevil for that haha
Do you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut bitchhhhh
HIS COSTUME IS, PANTS!? 😅😅😅LMFAO
52:10 all the computers and algos did conclude that if humans are wiped out in a day, the stock markets would go up
This film should have focused on the Cure and the rise of the Sentinels, in the end, Magneto and The Brotherhood have to work together to stop some Sentinel's.
Dark Phoenix, idk what you could merge that story with
I'm surprised you guys haven't talked much about kevin feige's name being all over this trilogy and this being the biggest thing on his resume leading up to the head hocho of marvel studios. This trilogy is what got him the gig.
Great analysis guys! Sub'd
pretty sure Blade had a post credit scene
Tangents make the best shows
Leech?
I thunk the cure kids is supposed to be leech?
Mutants have always been immune to their own and their families powers right? Or is that just the TV show or my childhood faux memory.
Psylocke DID have shadow traveling powers (in addition to her regular powers) around the late 90s/early 00s. But they didn't work like that.
A plot point with so much potential that no one has ever gone back to.
@@pious83 because she died and then her new body didn't have those powers anymore or something. I think. Lol
@@MeSpawn297 Yeah. Two or three times since. But, considering Dr. Strange was involved. No one even mentions the Crimson Dawn anymore. Unfortunately, even today, Psylocke is one of those characters they don’t know what to do with. So they try just about everything.
What is sals beef with rush hour 3 😂
Electric cars were around in the year 1900.........
My grandfather is a survivor of Auschwitz, and I don't find Magneto being a survivor exploitative at all. My father, whose sister was murdered by Nazis, calls First Class one of his favorite movies bc of Magneto, and he is NOT a fan of superhero stuff
How do you literally create Spike from the cartoon you were produving at the time and still call the kid Kid Omega????? How tf do you mix hem up?
This and Spiderman 3 I will never watch again.
1:31:45 That's fine. So many other great X-Men stories that would fit great on the big screen (I'm thinking about the time the X-Men liberated Genosha and Magneto was on trial). Or make your own story with the characters and powers accurately depicted. Too much to ask?
1:19:08 again, so egregious. Leech (the "cure kid") is one of the morlocks and like most of the morlocks he's grotesquely ugly but has a cool power. He takes powers away at will by proximity. Caliban is another Morlock that can sense the presence of other mutants and looks like a Yeti. And Callisto is the not-too-bad-to-look-at leader of the Morlocks who's power isn't really discussed. I think she's acrobatic or something. The idea with Callisto is that the ugliness is in her soul as she's literally the one telling the deformed Morlocks that they'll never survive on the surface because they're so gross. The Morlocks are experiments by Mr. Sinister gone wrong and that's why Mr. Sinister sends The Marauders (a team of mutants who's powers all murder) to wipe the Morlocks out in the event known as Mutant Massacre which kick-started a lot of cool events for the X-Men
I'm Black, I appreciate the commentary, however I actually liked Mystique saying the homosapien and "slave name" comment. In hindsight it makes sense with the civil war hero allegories from the original comics. I don't mind it at all, I find them funny haha.
The only problem is that it's not something Mystique would ever say
Last Stand is still better than everything that came out of Marvel Phase 4 literally.
Absolutely not! That is full hyperbole and not an ounce factual! Phase 4 may have lost its steam and be a bit lackluster, but it's not LAST STAND bad.
We gotta stop treating Phoenix like she's one of the X-Men's villains. Dark Phoenix saga is a tragedy. It's like in the movie Carrie. You wouldn't do Freddy vs. Carrie. What's her motivation? Carrie is reacting to harsh conditions and bullying, she's not a "combatant" you can move on and off the field to face our heroes. The Dark Phoenix story is about something terrible happening to a member of the team, them lashing out, and then the team dealing with the consequences. See Old Man Logan's Xavier for better context.
Also, they made Juggernaut a mutant. Fine. But then you have him get defeated by Leech and Kitty. Let me tell you why this sucks. Every encounter the X-Men have with Juggy is it's own event. They can't defeat him, he's too powerful. They have to mess with his head, remove the helmet and have Xavier or Phoenix or at least Post-Hand Psylocke on board to take him down. Temporarily. This is the formula every time. For this reason, Juggernaut is an X-Men villain unto himself just like Magneto, Sinister and Apocalypse. Making him a mutant nerfs his power so much that he doesn't even make sense as a member of the Brotherhood. Mutant Juggernaut *especially with Leech in play* is basically an Iron Man villain. Nay! A daredevil villain.
I love you guys, but the shallowness of your x men lore is just so upsetting. Juggernaut used to get physically abused by his father and Xavier psychically shared in at pain, and when he tried to bond with Kaine Marco over this, the boy had a rather violent counter reaction, which has now led to a lifelong hatred.
Cain was abusive towards Charles because his father treated Charles better than him. Cain's father, looking towards his mother's fortune. Placated her by encouraging her son. That and the fact Charles also excelled in sports and his studies. The jealousy, alongside Cain's abuse, forged that life long hatred.
@@pious83 Yeah, plus what I said...animated series fan...
@@jameltaylor4241 That’s cool. A lot of fans jumped on with the Animated Series. I’ve followed X-Men since the Original Five series. So I’ve seen plenty of origin retcons come and go.
