- Grammy-nominated Italian rock band Måneskin sits down with Zane Lowe ahead of the release of their third studio album, ‘RUSH!’.
Vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio rose to prominence on X Factor, then went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021.
Now, they're nominated for Best New Artist at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
The band tells Zane about the process of creating their new album, for which they created over 60 songs and then painstakingly selected which titles made the final track-list. The group explains how ‘RUSH!’ was inspired by American rock legend Elvis Presley and how they think about their own unique musical style. The group also talks about staying level-headed as their notoriety grows, and renovating the boundaries and expectations of artists to preserve their own mental health and ability to create.

Interesting that Ethan can easily say the English R, but not the D which is similar to the R sound in Italian which he has an impediment for.

@@malagatravel lol no. They answer most questions because they do it faster. I also think that Ethan and Thomas are not always ready to answer the question. So, I would not say that someone does not let others talk. Everyone works according to their capabilities

Thomas has such a beautiful voice, it’s so soft and calming. You would never know he’s one of the greatest guitar players alive today. Saw Måneskin live in New York in December and was blown away by their collective talent. They deserve that Grammy ❤️

i love thomas and maneskin but objectively he's far from one of the greatest guitar players today. that said, what he plays in maneskin suits the songs perfectly, and i can't imagine any other guitar player for the band

I'm a Måneskin fan since their X Factor audition and I definitely am not one of those "Thomas can't play guitar he's at a beginner level" (I actually quite enjoy his style if playing) but one of the GREATEST? That's just lying to yourself. If you wanna compare him to people like Tim Henson (from Polyphia), Marcin or Ichika Nito (just to name 3 of the most popular and incredibly skilled guitar player that come to my mind) he's nothing but a mediocre guitarist, with all respect to Thomas of course. He's good but they are GREAT

21:19 “You don’t want to be accepted by people who haven't change”. That was so powerful! Zane Lowe is one of the best interviewers who are out there. He always asks the best questions, makes the artists feel comfortable and seems to really care about the music.
So many times when rock stars do interviews, the rocker responds with incoherent gibberish, tangential nonsense, or just generally dull unrevealing thoughts. Not these guys, though. It’s partly the skill of the host, here, but from their answers, it’s pretty clear that the Maneskin artists are much, much more grounded in reality (and also quite articulate) than many/most of their rock star predecessors. There’s a raw sincerity in their interview responses that I think will further endear them to their fanbase. International fame has a way, historically, of tearing at the seams within a band’s core fabric. Seems this band has the right mindset to ward off such challenges to their integrity. That bodes really well for their future. I’m here for it.

They were predestined, very talented and creative, today they came to ‘touch the sky’. They have done a huge job this year, they have practically come down from one stage to get on another, they have conquered the world, so they deserve to win the prize more than anyone else, even if, it is a great honor to be nominated. 🌟🌟🌟🌟Grammy in my opinion represents the Oscar of music, winning it would be a dream, but with or without a prize, for me they will always be the same very good and beautiful guys that I love and have appreciated for a long time. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Glad Zane brought up the Reading situation because he was quite harsh on them when talking about it with Matt Bellamy. Obviously it was a tough choice to make, and as Vic brought it up, this was their year of setting boundaries and going with what they ultimately think is best for the band.
There are artists that have had to make the decision whether or not to attend an award show if they are nominated, due to scheduling conflicts. In the end some don't show up.
