Long before the pandemic I read the book, GRAVE MATTERS, by Mark Harris. I have my own hardcopy 2007.

Hey Kari...I watched Silo on Apple TV and they had a green burial in the show and I thought of you and all the other positive death people on the internet. It was absolutely amazing to watch everyone in the show take a bite of an apple and throw it into the open burial pit of the deceased tp promote the organic process of composting and giving back to the earth. Great video. Kari!!

Thanks for sharing, but I started reading books 25 years ago about this topic. More recently I have seen a few films on the internet as well. Pine box, simple natural burial for me. No head stone....... Stay Frosty

This sounds like a Jewish burial, except the headstone.
We dress the deceased in white linen, like Jesus’ shroud, do NOT embalm, use a simple pine box.
Burial is before sundown the following day, if possible.
I do not think Kari has discussed Jewish funerary practice, which is a mix-of law and tradition.
Kari, I have asked if you would.
I am daughter of-a Hassidic man, and I would be honoured to fill in any blanks you may have.
I think this would be of interest to your viewers.
It’s a time where we turn to the wisdom of the ages, and are surrounded with persons who loved the decedent, and/ or who love the family.
Our legal first week-of mourning is a special time, and we have eleven months of less-intense mourning.
Our wise ancestors teach us that we must grieve, and we must return to life as we know it.
Therefore, our legal mourning is eleven months. We are taught that, whilst it is important to mourn the dead, a year is too long. Hence eleven months.
      Because life goes on.
      Ask me anything. ❤

Oh, headstone: we erected headstone and unveil it at eleven months.
This signifies the end of the official mourning period.
There is a little graveside service, to celebrate the dead then we all eat and drink together and celebrate the living.

I want a natural/green burial personally as I'm not religious and it's very simple 😊

My recently departed friend chose to be buried at Foxfield Preserve in OH. That is a conservation burial ground.

@@xXJesuslovesyouXxin your judgement. And I respect that. I also respect the law and the needs of the families. Jewish tradition requires burial with 24 hrs of death. No embalming, no viewing but the cemetery may require vault and casket. Mourners fill in the grave with an upside down shovel before leaving. State health code requires burial within 48 hours after time of death. That's why one of my mom's sister 's services were on a Sundsy. But it wasn't possible for all of the kids, my cousins, and their children, her grandchildren, to say good by. They couldn't get flights back and it would have been more than 36 hours of nonstop driving to make it. If the death is because of a crime, that brings in other complications. If the person lived alone and wasn't found for awhile, there are other complications. Then of course there is weather. Winter storms especially can cause delays. It may take awhile for the ground cookers to thaw the ground enough to digvthe grave. A funeral director I work with brought the family's loved one back home for burial. That required embalming because they had been traveling on another continent several time zones away. It was also quite costly. There are so many variables. Please don't be too harsh with people who may not have this option, as lovely as it is.

I'm a follower of Jesus Christ and I Believe In Father God, I've felt that this is the only right way to be buried and I've been worried about it my whole life as I am 31... I don't like cremation really and I really really don't like embalming and being locked up in that casket and preserved like that... We should go into the Earth and back into the Earth properly. I hate those nasty chemicals too. Thank you for spreading awareness on this topic , I hope this is something I can have done here in Tennessee if / when I pass. I've already told my whole family, lol ..I know... I'm crazy😂 LOL
Thank you for talking about the matter❤r❤❤❤

Does natural burial include following things?
    1. Non-planting exotic grasses, scrubs and trees deliberately.
    2. Non-weeding (controversial for invasive species)
    3. Absence of any melioration.

I was watching a mortian on Tik Tok and she said that in order to bury a loved one on your property it has to go through all law and your property has to be a cemetery. Is that true? I find that hard to believe.

    • @KaritheMortician
      @KaritheMortician  Рік тому +1

No it does not have to be a cemetery but your title for the property will denote there is a body buried there

So does this mean each Cemetery decides which Green Burial is allowed on their land or is it up to the deceased/relatives that can choose from the three that is stipulated by the Green Burial Council or the Cemetery or State Laws? 🤔
