This reminds me of a review I read about Logic's album EVERYBODY, that really hit home. Logic spends the entire album exploring this idea, that only once you have lived every possible life that can ever be, you can finally find the life's purpose. Only to have J. Cole at the end, deliver this amazing verse (in which he gives Logic advice and empathise with him but ultimately realizes that he will never be Logic no matter how hard he tries. He can only ever accept and by loving himself hope that he can inspire others to love themselves too). J. Cole says in one unpolished verse what Logic spent a immaculately produced album trying to say. Great video, Shawn. Thanks for your throughtful analysis.
Yeah, but you also have to remember that distilling a theme down to it's most basic root also helps the audience understand or emotionally emphasize that feeling as well. It's something that's lyrically done everywhere in lots of albums. J Cole more than likely was just going off of what Logic was telling him to probably do in the first place. This is also at the end of the album. The purpose seems pretty clear that that was the intention.
After that and whenever he broke up with his girl he’s been different…. Like idk what it is just can’t listen to an album after that without thinking it’s corny. Incredible true story was a banger tho

i don't think it was all satire, i think he just used that because the album didn't end up the way he wanted it because of sampling issues. the whole album was made because he was doing bad mentally and needed to make an album like coadm for fun. in an hardknocktv interview he played snippets and one of the lines from a song was him admitting if he didn't make coadm he would killed himself and there was a line on bobby tarantino 3 where he said in 2018 Pittsburgh he wanted to slit his wrists. i think he genuinely doesn't like the album himself possibly because it didn't turn out the way he wanted and he just called satire.

@@jordann7681 YSIV was made because everyone wanted another one, and the difference between coadm and bt1 n 2 is that he tried to take a different approach by making ignorant music as an experiment because he knows it would be his biggest album , but obviously he's never done an album out of his range like this so of course it would turn out below average. the reason why i think it was an experiment is because he did one leading up to coadm, where he posted 1 snippet once a week to see which one would be loved and got the most views, and out of all of them Cocaine was the biggest one that everyone wanted even tho it was bad and the worst out of all the snippets. he did it because he knew that would be the biggest one because rapping about drugs on trap beats was what got views at the time. i do think it was some what of an "experiment" but just poorly made as a high quality album but still was one of his most popular albums.

I vividly remember some Logic fans creating a theory that Logic's decline musically was actually intentional. The theory was that the AI "Thalia" that appears on his projects was impersonating Logic. Not gonna lie I thought this was gonna be another one of them videos totally grilling the dude in some attempt to be funny, This was actually a very well put together take on his statement and I honestly couldn’t agree more. Like you said Logic had a deep message thru the album, Regardless of how trash it ended up. To go and claim the whole thing was satirical goes against all the meaningful subjects he touched on which was definitely an insight look into his mindset at the time. Album can be viewed as garbage, At least stand by your garbage lol. I’m honestly okay with logic putting out a bad album here and there. Will I listen to the thing on repeat? No but I know he’s capable of putting out great music and I know that coadm was prolly just him wanting to put out something for fun while he was going through some shit mentally. So I don’t blame him. I know if I had the whole world watching me and critics got in my head, I’d lose my edge a little bit too. I know this dude though. He got me through high school, a super rough time for me, with Under pressure, Bobby Tarantino I and II, the incredible true story, not to mention the features this man had during that time. So even if he puts out shitty music every now and then I at least owe him a little bit of a listen because he helped me out of a bad place mentally and while mentally he’s suffering, I want to give him support.

I feel like COADM wouldn’t have been so hated, if it was just titled Bobby Tarantino III. Most of the tracks are meant to be turned up to ("COMMANDO", "Icy" and "Still Ballin'"), and the album basically feels like BTII Deluxe. Now I know that there are tracks that you aren’t supposed to turn up to like the title-track, but he could've easily put that stuff on some other project. Last thing, Logic saying that COADM was gonna be a mix of BT and UP really didn't help the reception either, since it really wasn't.

Also, on the last track you can hear the lady saying in Japanese that we had all been fooled, he left all the clues there for us to see regardless if you believe or don't.

Logic is struggling to be real with himself. I could point this this all the way back to BT1, flexicution to be exact. I thought him stepping away would help but he's still so hung up on public opinion/perception to a point he's doing too much to please ppl and still denies it by consistently saying "I don't care I only care bout my family". Vinyl days will be better than the previous projects but as long as he doesn't deal with the main issue he grow as an artist, which is what I felt Kendrick attempted with Mr. Morale.

During rollout he talks about how the album combines the introspection of Under Pressure with the trap aesthetic of Bobby Tarantino, he was trying to hype it up as a 'genuine' album. After release, he goes on to say it's one of his most important albums because it helped him in some of his worst times. But now, it was all a 'satire/joke' to get attention from. He keeps flip flopping on his own position and intentions. I love Logic but it comes off as if he's trying to defend an album that even fans knew was bad but he thought was genuinely great by saying it was purposefully bad.
Icy was, by far, my most hated song on COADM. However, after seeing the video for it, I could see the message about the effects of fame and fans have on him. I still fucking hate that song, but I respect the message

i mean: as people who have listened to Logic for YEARS & heard every project, are you really gonna tell me that Wannabe, Clickbait, Pardon My Ego, Icy, Cocaine, DBATBD & BOBBY aren't all satirical songs? We been knew COADM was half satirical, half not lols so idk why this tweet is so controversial 💀 i literally remember reading a reddit post two years ago about how certain songs clearly show he's rapping from the perspective of a rapper who's consumed by social media. The music video for Icy adds weight to that theory. The problem with COADM is that it tried to be two things at once. A satirical rap project from the perspective of a rapper consumed by social media & one of Logic's personal reality (the title track, Homicide, Mama/ Show Love, Still Ballin', Limitless, Lost in Translation etc.) & clearly not everyone liked that.
Shawn’s commentary on Logic throughout the years has always been the best. Just like him, I was a big fan of the guys music pretty much throughout Bobby Tarantino. But after that the guys’ sound and personality become so corny it hurts 😫

I vividly remember some Logic fans creating a theory that Logic's decline musically was actually intentional. The theory was that the AI "Thalia" that appears on his projects was impersonating Logic. This theory was so incredibly stupid, I immediately wrote it off. Why would an artist subject their fans to music that isn't genuine? So to now see Logic echo a similar sentiment... Not gonna lie I thought this was gonna be another one of them videos totally grilling the dude in some attempt to be funny, This was actually a very well put together take on his statement and I honestly couldn’t agree more. Like you said Logic had a deep message thru the album, Regardless of how trash it ended up. To go and claim the whole thing was satirical goes against all the meaningful subjects he touched on which was definitely an insight look into his mindset at the time. Album can be viewed as garbage, At least stand by your garbage lol. All this being said, As a old school logic fan, These past 3 singles he’s released have been some of the best I’ve heard from the dude in a loooong time, Based on those tracks, Appears dude might be in his bag again. If the album continues down the path of these recent tracks he’s dropped, I def look forward to seeing a reaction 💯
I been a fan for a long time and i'm very realistic about how bad some of his music has been but I def agree with the last 3 tracks being some of his best in probably 6-7 years. I'm looking forward to the album and hope he's genuinely back to his best. If it's ass imma be the first to admit it.

I’m honestly okay with logic putting out a bad album here and there. Will I listen to the thing on repeat? No but I know he’s capable of putting out great music and I know that coadm was prolly just him wanting to put out something for fun while he was going through some shit mentally. So I don’t blame him. I know if I had the whole world watching me and critics got in my head, I’d lose my edge a little bit too. I know this dude though. He got me through high school, a super rough time for me, with Under pressure, Bobby Tarantino I and II, the incredible true story, not to mention the features this man had during that time. So even if he puts out shitty music every now and then I at least owe him a little bit of a listen because he helped me out of a bad place mentally and while mentally he’s suffering, I want to give him support.

I feel like COADM wouldn’t have been so hated, if it was just titled Bobby Tarantino III.
Most of the tracks are meant to be turned up to ("COMMANDO", "Icy" and "Still Ballin'"), and the album basically feels like BTII Deluxe.
Now I know that there are tracks that you aren’t supposed to turn up to like the title-track, but he could've easily put that stuff on some other project.
Last thing, Logic saying that COADM was gonna be a mix of BT and UP really didn't help the reception either, since it really wasn't.

Bro needs to delete everything from 2017-2019 and just pretend it never happened.
The thing is, BT1 and some of BT2 was actually cool music. Even if u look at COADM as a BT2.5, it has some of his worst bars, uninspired and repetitive lyrics, his worst hooks, and his most on the nose non-subtle subject matter

The only reasons I could believe this are bc 1. I remember some interviews where he talked about trolling 2. Before this released, he talked about this having Undeniable vibes and being the hardest thing he's ever made + the Under Pressure meets Bobby Tarantino comments 3. The whole rollout with him dropping the title track which was arguably one of his best tracks at the time along w the Eminem song. In what world would those two tracks and Lost in translation belong on the same album as songs like Icy, Commando, Bobby, and Don't be afraid to be different? I remember the line where he said "I don't give a damn about lyrics" and then saves Lost In Translation as the outro... That alone let me know he was trolling bc it doesn't make sense the quality difference between select songs on that album

During rollout he talks about how the album combines the introspection of Under Pressure with the trap aesthetic of Bobby Tarantino, he was trying to hype it up as a 'genuine' album. After release, he goes on to say it's one of his most important albums because it helped him in some of his worst times. But now, it was all a 'satire/joke' to get attention from. He keeps flip flopping on his own position and intentions. I love Logic but it comes off as if he's trying to defend an album that even fans knew was bad but he thought was genuinely great by saying it was purposefully bad.
