- In this video I carry out a full service on my 1998 MK5 Ford Transit with 2.5 N/A DI engine. I show you how to replace the oil/ oil filter, air filter and fuel filter as well as giving you some tips along the way. It's very important to get the basics right to keep your engine in tip top condition. Save yourself time, money and be satisfied that the job has been done properly! This engine is well known for it's reliability and durability, that's providing it's been looked after. Keep them smileys smiling!
This video will be applicable for many different vehicles and the main servicing principles are usually very similar.

Great video mate, when I did my fuel filter I filled it with liqui Moly to help clean the injectors & it worked a treat, your gonna have to bite the bullet & get that rear crank seal done as you don't want oil dripping into your clutch. Mine did & I was hopping like a kangaroo in reverse gear😂 for the sake of a £10 seal it makes all the difference.

Great job they are a very easy van to service doesn’t take long at all also the service parts are very cheap and readily available I do like your Pyrex oil jug was that from the kitchen lol. Keep up the good work.

@@TurnersWorkshop97 Mate, just one question, do you change the fuel filter every year too? Mine is 2 years old and I done 6k miles with it, the Haynes manual says every 30k miles or 3 years. I am debating if I should change it or not. Planning to do a longer trip this summer so that might be a good idea. What do you think? Sadly I can get only the Mahle ones here Thank you!!
Nicely demonstrated! The only thing I miss is the checkout of tire pressure. Especially twin wheels at the rear may give surprises with the outer wheel showing normal while inner wheels are too low pressured because of valve extentions that are often poor quality and cause pressure loss.
Another hint for anybody reading this; In your yearly checkup don't enthousiasticly fill up the breakfluid reservoir, but first check on disc pads and breakshoes (openings in anchor plate to verify thickness without removing wheels) wear down. The same story backwards; if you replace pads or shoes and before you start you see a 100% leveled break fluid reservoir, realise that pushing back the break plungers to make space for new pads/plungers, the reservoir might overflow!
Last but not least a yearly check on the handbreak rattle count is not a bad thing, but don't open up the lever gear in the cabin, because the adjustment sits underneath the chassis (happend to me as you can guess...)

It's worth noting that there are two different fuel filter housings which take different filter cartridges. Lucas type are a bit different to the Bosch type on your van.
Finally got old Gloria back on the road today - paid the road tax and brought her home. Slow, noisy and awesome :-)

Never again trust garage.. 😳 They left my engine covered in oil. Bolton oil plug never been changed and I had oil drips all around. From now on doing myself. 😊. Thank you for the video 🙏

I tried the leak stop stuff by Wynn’s and I don’t think it helped, but my leak is more than a couple of drips, I did notice the leak slowed down tho after changing from 5-30 to 10-40. Looks mint your engine bay now. There’s not many out there as clean as yours. I took the foam of the bulkhead and cleaned the white paint underneath. I think seeing the white looks better than the old foam. Great video again mate 👍
I'm also thinking about removing the foam. Did you notice any noise increase... I cannot imagine the foam having much effect on the noise but worth asking.
@@AllWelhamGood saw a yt vid about insulating the front doors which had a big impact on reducing the noise.
So far I don’t think the leak stop is working, if anything I think the leak has got worse 😆 oh well maybe it needs a run. I think I will take the foam out but haven’t got mats inside at the moment so abit noisy 😂 Need to try and sort the leaks at some point! thanks for your comment mate 👍🏼

@All Welham Good I think it can be done with just the gearbox out but not 100% sure. Then I should replace the clutch and gearbox seal at the same time really. I will see how bad this leak is after a few trips and then might look into it 👍🏼

Hi, thanks for the great video. Can i ask some advice I've got a 2012 mk7 van. I can't get hot air to come from heater. I'm getting hot water to the valve connected to heat exchanger. The valve moves in on start up but never moves again.
Hi, no problem 😊 sounds like it could be a blocked heater matrix? Or faulty valve. Would drain it down and flush through with a hose to see if it’s blocked. I made a video about this you might be interested in about flushing the cooling system on my van :)

Hey, I am reviving a 1992 Ford Transit 190L 2.5DI, after being parked abandoned for last 12 years... It's almost part of the family because was bought by my parents in 1995.
I bought a new battery and after cranking three times, about 20 seconds each, the engine worked 🔥🎉
Now I changed oil, oil filter and air filter and it worked well.
Then I went to replace fuel filter, and removed all old diesel on tank, and after refuel, the engine start, work for 3 or 4 seconds and turns off...
What do you think it can be?
I already tried to remove a put back the filter, and tried to blew the high pressure lines... Tried to clean the fuel pump on the right side of engine, that pumps fuel from tank to the filter.

Hey, nice work getting it going after such a long time sitting! I would say it might have debris in the tank blocking the pickup if it’s been sitting many years. If fuel isn’t getting to the fuel filter then it’s on the low pressure side so could be the lift pump or blockage on the pickup. Best of luck let us know what you find 😁👊🏼

Can i ask something....i have a problem with my mk5 1997 transit.Some times in open road is stalling and then i have to push sometimes the primer pump to start again...i clean the tank and the fuel lines,any ideas? Maybe the primer pump take air some times,maybe the lift pump stop to work?any ideas??? Thank you.
Hi, does it completely stall or is it misfiring. Have you done the leak off pipe mod? Check out the video on my channel. It might be causing it to get air in the system. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Mine doesn’t have a cabin filter, have you checked behind the glove box, think that’s where they usually are. Or is there one in the engine bay at the back of engine?
I’m going to change my oil tomorrow. Mine is none turbo. I’ve always used castrol in my Saab’s. Is there any reason you went for semi over fully synthetic? I was just about to go buy same as you bought, just thought I’d check first. I thought turbo and none turbo may be different. Thanks in advance 👍
I have run my van on both and it’s happy with either, these engines aren’t too fussy it’s more about the viscosity I think. I went for semi synthetic as it was cheaper and I heard somewhere that older engines are better on semi synthetic… I’d rather change the oil more frequently and use something cheaper personally 👍🏼

People don't realise that the reason there engines have seal leaks is because of lack of oil changes..once oil starts going black that is soot in the oil..soot destroys seals and makes them brittle...never ever follow the recommended oil drain intervals ..by 10 or 15 thousand miles oil is saturated with soot and fuel mix..change oil at 5 thousand miles ,4 thousand for turbo engines..your seals will stay like new...

Hello mate, I wanted to compare how the engine runs on both. Not much difference in my opinion. I used the 5w-30 for a year and have used the 10-40 for a year and no noticeable difference. 5w-30 may be slightly better for cold starts but if you have a good starter battery and good connections it doesn’t make a difference. I will just use what ever is on deal next time 👍🏼

I flushed rad using your video. Yucky it was, looked pretty similar to a power flush that i carry out on heating systems.

Nice work! It’s good to keep on top of servicing. I haven’t worked out the mpg yet but top speed is around 80mph on a down hill road 😂. What about your Luton?

Hey, Won’t start at all? Or won’t start first time straight away? Diesel could be draining back to the tank if the fuel filter isn’t sealed up properly into the filter housing.

No worries! Are you getting fuel to the injectors? 🤔 if you undo the unions on the injectors you should crank it and have fuel there.
Yeah I checked that. I think the problem might be the fuel. I had an old jerrycan with petrol so I used that to fill the filter. tomorrow I'm going to get some new fresh gas and I'll try it again. Thanks!!

It is not the alternator under the fuel filter.

@@TurnersWorkshop97 oh right. When I tried it I found the van harder to start and really sluggish on steep hills.
That’s interesting, I’ve heard that starting can be a little harder when the oils very cold but haven’t noticed a difference in power. Will most probably put 5w/30 back in for the winter anyway.

I headed on back to the 5 30.
Change it twice a year. I worked with an old geezer when I was a Ford and he said as long as you keep the oil and filters clean that engine will see u out!!... Bring it!!!
