I live just a couple of blocks north of the Big 4 Bridge on South Main Avenue in Sidney. The road under the bridge used to be US 25, The Dixie Highway (now County 25a), until the N/S Interstate I-75 opened. When I moved here about 23 years ago, there used to be about 75 trains a day total on the east-west Big 4/NYC line and the north-south B&O collectively. First of all, Señor Jaws... what a picture-perfect autumn day back up there in the midwest northlands! Hugmongo-gigante concrete bridge. Great gray and cloudy sky. This video is awesome. It shows how big that bridge is. Wow, that is one heck of a big bridge! I think you are doing a fantastic job with your filming! Don't cut yourself so short. Your videos are always worth posting.
That concrete bridge over the Great Miami River in Sidney, io is a huge structure! The bridge does look like it could use some repair work done to it. There appears to be some flaking of the concrete on the underside of the bridge. I just looked at Google Maps to see if there was any way that you could have made your way to the railroad tracks going across the bridge to be able to be a track level with the bridge. A drone would have been your best way to be able to see the trains going across the bridge at "eye" level. The two trains at Troy Ohio were easier to catch. The late afternoon view of the second train was interesting to watch. Thank you for capturing these trains and for uploading them to your UA-cam channel!
Hey JawTooth. The next time you're in Troy you should stop at K's Diner - just a couple of blocks west from your dusk filming on Main Street. You won't be disappointed.
The next time you return to that old big bridge, you need to record a “but wait there’s more, of course there always is” segment using the echo. It might sound really great. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Your videos are the first I watch every day because of the high quality of content.
Well, my first thought was the fallen concrete segments and deterioration. I don’t know enough to understand when a bridge that big deteriorates to being unsafe. Someone is inspecting it, it is functioning but CSX doesn’t have a great history with bridge maintenance as a small bridge here in my neck of the woods raised Fed concern for being patched with wood. That aside it’s a magnificent structure and you could have recorded a dozen trains and I would not have complained about not being able to see the full train - I hope you go back and record more. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Thank you JT! 🙂There was an old wives tale that during construction a horse and cart fell into one of the piers of worlds first concrete viaduct (Glenfinnan, Scotland). Several years ago Network Rail discovered it albeit in Loch nan Uamh viaduct!
I almost wish somebody would use some ground penetrating radar device to find this guy's body. There's a lot of cracks in the concrete on this bridge. I'm surprised any trains can fly over the bridge this way.
I used to live there. When we were kids, we used to climb down a ladder from the top hatch. We could go from one end to the other inside. Probably welded shut now. Place you parked used to be called Parkes Sunoco. Had a friend that worked there.
