Enjoyable video. I'm an Aussie that likes to visit Japan as often as money allows me, Fukuoka is my favourite city. I agree with you about Tokyo. It's a great city with lots to see & do but the crowds are too much. I stayed there for 3 months and was lonely. My friends are in Kyushu & when I finally got down there to see them it was Wonderful.
I really considered moving to Japan & living there but in the end decided that I was probably not going to be happy there. IMHO too many society rules & nuances that I can get away with as a visitor but not once I Japanese.
Did you struggle to adjust to Japanese expectations & have you changed much since living there?

Ehi Bill, thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it.
Agree with you, Tokyo can be hard for have a solid friendship and have a relax time.
I am Italian but I was living in Sydney for 7 years and when I come to Japan (last year) I thought that will be easy because is my third country that I choose to live and start a new life, but you know, you are Aussie and I loved to live in Australia especially because of the social manner and easy going life style.
Japan as tourist is great but when you live here is totally the opposite, you need to follow the social rule, learn the language (it will be hard without that), appreciate the culture, give up the daily conversation with a stranger, give up the straight and honest conversation from Japanese (most of them will hide their feeling and you will never understand what is going on), experience rejection because you are foreign and others culture shock that I experienced.
I believe if you want to be happy in japan, you really need appreciate and love their culture, love their way of doing and love their language or else it will be very hard.
Me and my wife are considering to move back to Sydney once the Corona virus situation it will be over.
Soon, I am going to make one video about the dark side of Japan, because japan is not just rainbow and candies, and I want sharing with people who doesn’t know, how really is like to live in japan as foreign.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have others questions 😉

@@thejapaneseways2103 Mate you have been very helpful & I appreciate that.
Much of what you say I have either experienced first hand or else have seen my friends experience it.
Initially I considered moving to Japan but soon realised that ''I would be like a fish out of water' (as we like to say). One trick that I discovered is that as a Gaigin you must not become too Japanese because some Japanese people don't like that. There's actually a term for it that I can't remember right now.
So it's better for me to play the dumb gaigin who understands some Japanese words, tries to be considerate, polite & co-operative, but doesn't understand everything 'Japanese' because I am only gaigin. Otherwise the Japanese can start to have expectations that make life tough. Have you experienced that yet?
Sydney is a great city with a real international feel about it, so too Melbourne. I think you would enjoy either city.
There's also another UA-camr, an Aussie bloke who openly discusses being a foreigner in Japan plus renovating an old Japanese house in the countryside. I remember one of his videos was about how hard it was for him to discuss his hard day at work with his Japanese wife or friends, because they don't want to hear about it. The lesson was to keep your complaints to yourself. The phrase was something like 'shogata ganai'. I've almost certainly messed that up but it sounded something like that.
The point is though that if you can't discuss problems with your wife or your close friends (to act like a safety valve), then who can you talk about it to? Maybe that's why so many Japanese people are messed up?
      Take care - BB

Bill Blinky thank you again your comments, Japan is not bad after all, but unfortunately is not for everyone especially for people who like conversations and easy going life style.. japan is working culture and follow rules, most of the foreign accepted and like that and they are trying the best to be part of the community. Keep safe and I hope to see you one day in Australia

Free wifi places all over the show. 24/7 access to beer/wine etc. it also is much cooler than in town during the summer.
