    Please let me know how I am doing, this is my first video but I plan to make many more as often as possible and would love to do better next time!

    Awesome video! Thank you! Here are 3 things I would add.
    1) Open Fill Plug half way BEFORE opening Drain Plug. This makes sure it can come off and to allow air flow.
    2) The torque specification for both the Drain Plug and Check Plug is 106 INCH-lbs.
    3) Before opening the Check Plug, the engine's temperature must be between 185-203 degrees Fahrenheit.
    I found that I had to drive enthusiastically for about 20 minutes before the transmission temperature even reached 185 degrees.
    Just something to note.

    Nice video on the transmission "drain & fill". I do my 2013 Equinox every summer, since I got it used with 45K miles.
    I got a bit concerned when you first jacked it up. Good recovery though, gotta keep all 4 on the ground to be level.
    Here's my suggestion:
    Get her hot, park it level and turn the wheels fully to the right. You'll see the level plug which u can reach with an 18" extension.
    The rest is as you did it. And it really is a 10 minute job, and easier than an oil & filter change!

    Great video, I just completed my 2015 GMC Terrain. After watching your video I was able zip right through it. Again thanks, Thomas from Kissimmee, Florida

    It takes 30 minutes of highway, highspeed driving, to get transmission fluid to reach the required 180F. The transmission has a temp controlled reservoir. If its not at temp when you can underfill the transmission. I use a $5 Torque App and BT OBDII adapter to read engine data, and transmission temp. A simple drain and fill only replaces, 45% of fluid, need to do full fluid exchange, or 4 drain and refills.

    Really helpful vid. I'm jealous of your independence on maintaining your vehicles. I have to ambition just don't have the tools. Like that hand drill or what u used to take off the wheel. So frigging simple. The right tools makes the job so easy.

    Loved the video! I just did this today because of it. (40k miles past due 😢). Nonetheless I debated on whether to take it somewhere or do it myself so glad I found your video and chose the later. Very helpful, thank you!

      I also did what another person suggested below and turned the wheels all the way right. Made for easy access to the check plug. I didn’t have to jack up the car to get the drain plug off either so saved some time there as well.

    Did the fluid change on my terrain, took it for a test drive afterwards and everything was great, let it sit for a few days, next time I went to jump in the transmission decided that it no longer wanted to function.

    I've been searching for this video--just what i needed. It will be my first time doing transmision drain and fill on my 2011 Terrain. Questions had are now answered so i will feel confident doing this job. At the end, you talked about other maintenance. Did you do the transfer case? I think i will do it at the same time. 2011 with 25000 miles. Not quite 30k, but the years I'm sure deteriorates it.

      @10minutejobs88 I looked and just looked again and I am not seeing it for the GMC Terrain. There is one for the Silverado. I've done my 2007 Tundra and no issues, but I can't seem to find where the gear oil goes for the 2.4L front wheel drive.?!

    The dealership does basically the same thing when flushing the transmission fluid. Except they replace all the fluid, supposedly. They don't change the transmission filter, cause it's a nightmare to do. I had the transmission fluid changed at 25,000 miles, and 65,000 miles at the dealership, and I did the transmission fluid change at 100,000 miles myself. The transmission oil was still a reddish color, not burnt. The vehicle shifts great. "nock on wood" I use Valvoline Decron VI in the blue bottle for Transmission fluid. I'll drain and fill the Transmission fluid once again when I do my next oil change cause I only replaced 5 quarts of the transmission fluid during the 100K miles drain-and-fill. Then I'll check the transmission fluid after another 25,000 miles. I change the Oil and oil filter every 5k to 6-thousand miles full synthetic 5W-30 every time. The vehicle runs great.

    What are you going to do with the left over new transmission fluid. Might as well poured everything in. With the overflow nut open, that would have removed some more dirty fluid. Great video BTW. Thanks.

    My owners manual says to change the transmission fluid at 97,500 miles, Not sure where the Hanes manual got their info from. I'll trust my owners manual for service intervals over the Hanes manual. Other than that your video is very informative.

    I was going to do my transfer case at the same time but i couldnt find it, still. So i did the transmission fluid, frain and fill. I removed 4 /2 quarts. Next issue was i couldnt get the level plug off. It was on there tight. Hindsight, while under the car i should have loosen it then remove it hen i put the car back on the ground. So Plan B was fill will 4 1/2 quarts, what i took out of it. Npw im off to drive it. Fingers crossed.

      no need to if your using the fill plug in the side of the transmission. This is not a VW...Much easier.

    Could I use Ramps to drain. Fill while on top of ramps. Bring it down. Then do the overflow plug?

    • @10minutejobs88
      @10minutejobs88  3 роки тому

      As long as the entire vehicle is on ramps (front and rear) or you bring it down when you fill/check level. It is very important to have the vehicle level when checking fluid level in ATs.

    • @hanDIYdude
      @hanDIYdude 3 роки тому

      @@10minutejobs88 I only have ramps for front. Which means I have to take it to reverse to get it down, then forward to bring it back to garage and level. Is that safe at this point (drained fluid but didn’t fill)?

    • @bq4140
      @bq4140 3 роки тому +1

      @@hanDIYdude You could do it with engine off & in neutral., with engine on? nope, trans pan can't be empty. It'll ruin the tranny. Plus it won't drive either since it needs fluid to create pressure to be drivable.
